Dabei greifen sie zum Teil auf Musikinstrumente zurück, die technische Selbsterfindungen sind. • Bertolt Brecht)
In the dark times, Will there be singing? Yes, there will be singing, About the dark times. (Bertolt Brecht) We won’t be led to slaughter. This is self-genocide. It’s the hand of the people that’s getting tenser now, And when we rise up… (Algiers) This is the musical response that dark times demand, one that not only shakes its fist but deploys it. Locally-informed global citizens, Algiers refuse to sit idly by while most contemporary artists appear perfectly content to sit out the revolution. Not only do Algiers harbor a purposeful sense of obligation in what they do on their latest resistance record The Underside Of Power, but they recognize the roots and thorns of precedent in said resistance. “This album was recorded in a political environment that collapses the late 70s economic crisis and the looming onslaught of arch-conservative neoliberalism, via Thatcher and Reagan, into the late 1930s, a world riven by fascist nationalism and white power fantasies in the US and abroad,” says bassist Ryan Mahan. Their shared experiences and collective understanding of this rising tide of sinister politics compels them to make music together, to combat the potentially crippling waves of frustration and despair to let out a soulful roar, a call-to-action set to an eclectic, positively electric beat. The inclination to do otherwise is one worth fighting. Take Algiers frontman Franklin James Fisher, for example. Writing incendiary and even beauteous lyrics from inside a Manhattan nightclub’s coat check room, enduring the same damn songs thumping away nightly in the next room for the pleasures of a predominantly white audience, he tends to see the bigger picture as well as its pointillistic details.

  • (CD Suggestions) Amen Dunes Freedom the Fifth Album from Damon Mcmahon Is His Euphoric Break- Through
What to Listen to Next (CD Suggestions) Amen Dunes Freedom The fifth album from Damon McMahon is his euphoric break- through. Everything feels silvery and romantic, like a halluci- nation of the classic-rock songbook. Born Ruffians Uncle Duke & The Chief Their 5th album less concerned with what sounds hip than what feels good. In the Ruffians case that means reconnect- ing with the sounds they first heard on their parents’ turnta- bles as kids: Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, and pre- psychedelic Beatles. David Byrne American Utopia David Byrne’s first true solo album in 14 years is daring and open-hearted and contains highs a master can achieve when they rediscover a moment of unknown inspiration. Camp Cope How to Socialize and Make Friends The second album from the Australian trio hums with rage and retribution, executed with biting specificity and vast emo- tional range by singer Georgia Maq. Frankie Cosmos Vessel On Greta Kline’s third official album, pure love, self-loathing, and taxidermied dogs all find their way into her dazzling world of perennially inspired indie pop. Editors Violence On their 6th album, Editors retains their distinctive dark, grounded in guitar rock sound, but is laced with vivid, pop- focused arrangements and imagery. Field Report Summertime Songs Field Report return with their third album, a collection of folk rock combining narrative lyrics and the sound of the Ameri- can heartland. Holy Wave Adult Fear On their third full-length, Austin's Holy Wave continue to surf on dreamy, psyched-out washes of sound: distorted guitars, synth washes, echoing vocals and a locked-in rhythm section to cut through the fog.

  • Gli Algiers Live All'hana-Bi Marina Di Ravenna - 20 Agosto 2019 Ore 21.30

  • Algiers Press Release 2019
For Immediate Release October 29, 2019 ALGIERS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM THERE IS NO YEAR, OUT JANUARY 17 ON MATADOR RECORDS SHARE VIDEO FOR FIRST SINGLE “DISPOSSESSION” CONFIRM 2020 NORTH AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN TOUR DATES (credit: Christian Högstedt) On the back of their much-acclaimed standalone piece “Can The Sub_Bass Speak?,” Algiers will return in 2020 with their third album There Is No Year, set for release January 17 on Matador Records. This latest chapter from the Atlanta via London/NYC four-piece can be previewed now with the video for first single “Dispossession.” Watch HERE. KEXP’s John Richards premiered the song this morning on “The Morning Show.” Under the direction of producers Randall Dunn [Sunn O))), Earth] and Ben Greenberg [Zs, Uniform (as featured on Twin Peaks season 3)], There Is No Year encompasses future-minded post-punk R&B from the trapped heart of ATL, where they began; to industrial soundscapes à la 4AD-era Scott Walker or Iggy & Bowie’s Berlin period; to something like the synthetic son of Marvin Gaye and Fever Ray. The album was recorded over the past year by childhood friends and Atlanta natives Franklin James Fisher, Ryan Mahan and Lee Tesche, as well as drummer Matt Tong, in New York and produced by Randall Dunn [Sunn O))), Earth] and Ben Greenberg [Zs, Uniform]. Those aware of the ideals of this outspoken four-piece will find their latest direction on There Is No Year traversing unprecedented ground. Coming off two years of nonstop world-touring for their critically acclaimed second album, The Underside of Power—including Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic States and the Balkans, where they have established a rabid following; an extended stint opening for Depeche Mode in huge stadiums such as the 75,000-capacity Olympiastadion in Berlin; as well as Glastonbury 2019—There is No Year solidifies and expands upon the doom-laden soul of their foundation, toward an even vaster, genre-reformatting sound, one somehow suspended in the amber of “a different era,” as described by guitarist Lee Tesche.
