Lagar De Fornelos, S.A. acogida a la denominación de Origen “Rias Baixas”; is placed in O Rosal , Pontevedra. In 1988, La Alta, _S.A. was looking for somewhere to branch out into new wine-making fields in . It acquired a majority interest in the business, and soon was able to buy the entire company, changing the name to Lagar de Fornelos, S.A. This is a small but welcoming winery. It has the capacity to process 700,000 kilos of grapes, equivalent to 450,000 bottles per year, 50% of which are exported to the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, the United States and other countries such as Japan and Venezuela. Located in the village of Fornelos; its pink ivy-covered façade can be seen from the road.

The cosiest corner is the dining-tasting room in the old part of the house, with an impressive old stone and wooden wine press. The river Tamuxe flows by the rear of the house and summer days are enhanced by cries of the local children who come to bathe. There are ducks, trout and minks.

The ancient stone wine symbolises this winery, an example of the hard work and suffering involved in making wine in the past. Fortunately, now it is a museum piece. But its likeness can be found on our labels and engraved on the bottles.

Lagar de Cervera 2008 This is a bright, pale yellow, young wine. Its bouquet is typical of the albariño variety, reminiscent of citric and pitted fruits. Fresh, balanced and well-structured to the palate. It is best served at 10º - 12º C.

Bodegas ValdeSil, S.L., a family boutique winery from Córgomo, a small town in the county of Vilamartin de Valdeorras in the heart of the D.O. Valdeorras where we produce 100% Godello (already considered to keep an eye out for by Hubrecht Duijker in the late 1980s) and 100% Mencía wines.

The combination of this local grape variety with the slate soils of the area and the extreme mountain climate allow the production of white wines with great minerality and complexity, a deep and evolving mouth and with a great ability to age. Bodegas ValdeSil owns the oldest godello vineyard in the world (1885).

Tasting note ValdeSil 2008

An elegant expression of the Godello grape where lees ageing provides depth, character, and the potential for ageing. The grapes are grown on the slate slopes of Vilamartín de Valdeorras where ideal latitude and altitude allow for full ripening. Complex, with yeasty, mineral, citric notes, good weight and balancing acidity. The slate slopes of the Sil Valley give the mineral character to this wine released after six months of lees stirring in vat and several more in bottle.

Tasting note Pezas da Portela 2007

Elaborated with Godello from the 11 original “pezas” (means plot in local language) of the Prada family located in the town of Portela. Complex and particular Godello, with a clear character, reflecting the mineral soils of Portela, wrapped up with a background of gentle French oak, that gives complexity and longer life. Peach and apricot, great touches of minerality, an exciting fresh mouth, fat and wide with an acidity that turns it very deep and envolving.

Tasting note Losada 2007

Elaborated with Mencía from vineyards grown on clay soils. The result is a complex wine with a firm personality and elegance. On the nose, initial aromas of red fruit with hints of spice and oak coming through. Fresh, silky palate with volume and an excellent structure. In one word, elegant.

Tasting note Altos de Losada 2006

Great complexity and character from single vineyards on gentle clay slopes, showing all the subtlety and elegance which Losada brings. The excellent 2006 vintage provided the perfect opportunity to launch these exciting new wines: a problem-free growing season with plenty of warm periods of sunshine without the kind of extreme heat that can result in excessively alcoholic, low-acid, fruit-deficient wines. Adventurous wine drinkers that are eager to discover something new should not hesitate in trying these wines, which make excellent pairings for all kinds of meat dishes and cheeses.
