DEREE COLLEGE SYLLABUS FOR: : AR 2028 CONTEMPORARY ART SCENE IN 3/0/3 (Summer 2015)

PREREQUISITES: NONE

CATALOG Creative processes, theoretical approaches and artistic mobility are DESCRIPTION: explored within the context of the contemporary art culture in Greece. Tradition, antiquity and geography are considered main points of departure for the creation of artworks. Visits to the major contemporary art museums and collections of the country.

RATIONALE: This course enables students to become familiar with current art trends in Greece. Students are exposed to a variety of art strategies by visiting museums, galleries, art collections and by discussing with artists, curators, and art historians.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: 1. Interpret the interactions between the different forms of contemporary art in Greece 2. Identify issues of the “current” identities in art. 3. Demonstrate personal perception of the art scene in Greece. 4. Analyze issues of cultural heritage that lead to current trends in Greece.

METHOD OF TEACHING AND In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the LEARNING: following tools are used: Classes consist of lectures, demonstrations, and problem solving sessions, class critiques and discussions. Gallery and Museum visits Office hours: students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor, where they can ask questions and go over lecture and reading material. Use of a blackboard site, where instructors post lecture notes, assignment instructions, timely announcements, as well as additional resources.

ASSESSMENT: Summative: Midterm: Submission of project (essay and 40% photographs) and presentation Final: Submission of project (essay and 60% photographs) and presentation
