The purchase also signalled a significant windfall for Maluka Thoroughbreds, who re-offered him in Melbourne yesterday after buying him for $230,000 as a weanling last year. The colt was one of two expensive yearlings by the sire yesterday, following on from a filly who snapped up by trainer Tony McEvoy for $380,000 earlier in the session. Luke Anderson of Maluka Thoroughbreds was delighted as well as relieved with the sales ring result, which justified his decision to go hard to buy the colt at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale last May. “We purchased the colt with Peter McIntyre of Milawa Park who is a great judge of horses,” Anderson told ANZ Bloodstock News. “What we are essentially trying to do is buy supreme racehorses, Lot 425 Zoustar - Saffie Darling colt INGLIS so we picked him out as a cracking type at the sales. Trained in Queensland by David Vandyke, the filly was among the favorites for the Schweppes Maiden Handicap over 1100 meters and having broken well from the stalls found herself in the leading pair throughout. It was apparent she was travelling better than the pacesetter for most of the race and as the field entered the home straight, Maloney gave her a little bit of reign and with that she moved alongside. With no dangers emerging from the chasing pack she went past the frontrunner to win with a bit in hand. “I had an open mind on how she would perform but I was expecting her to finish strong.” Said Vandyke on Friday “I wasn’t sure where she’d get in the run and I was surprised when she showed good pace from the gates to get up to sit second.” Her jockey was also impressed with her, both before and during the race. “She had a lot of presence about her when she first walked into the saddling yard and she’s been well handled by David.” Said Maloney, who saw her for the first time Thursday.

He stood the 2020 season for $200,000. He is currently the number one yearling sales sire in North America by both average and median and was represented by four seven-figure offerings in 2020, the same amount he had in 2019. "These are trying times breeders are facing," said Darley Sales Manager Darren Fox. "We gave great consideration to this when setting our fees to reflect the economic reality of today. Breeders are attempting to navigate a sales environment that is both unpredictable and difficult. Subsequently, all but one of our stallions will see a decrease in stud fee from last year.
