Role purpose

Pathways is a collaborative outreach project which involves University of , and .

To represent the , De Montfort University and Loughborough University to a range of stakeholders including prospective students, parents and teachers. We are looking for students that are doing an apprenticeship or a degree apprenticeship to provide an insight into these routes.

The events and initiatives include and not limited to:

• Assisting on Pathways events such as workshops – face to face and virtually • Creating online content such writing blogs and creating vlogs relating to your apprenticeship experience • Offering industry specific expertise

Pathways ambassadors will represent all institutions by:

• Acting as an ambassador for HE • Being positive role models to those thinking of doing an apprenticeship • Supporting the Pathways events team

This is a casual position therefore you will have no set working hours.

Training

Compulsory training is provided, along with continuous development and support. Your work will be supported by members of the Pathways teams. You will be provided with plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and you will gain evidence of transferable skills for your CV.

Compulsory training – taking place on 24th March between 9am – 4pm

Principal responsibilities

As a Pathways Ambassador you will represent and promote Apprenticeships/Higher Education to prospective students and their influencers through a range of initiatives and events both on and off campus.

This includes:

• Working with young people in schools and colleges and the wider community to fulfil their aspirations and widen participation to HE • Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for students and parents • Assisting members of the Pathways team in the running of events including residentials, school talks, day trips, clubs and workshops. This includes setting up and clearing away after the events, working with students, facilitating campus tours and workshops, answering questions • Talking to students about your experiences of the education including its facilities, your course and your life experiences/background therefore acting as positive role model for apprenticeships and higher education. This may include giving presentations to groups of students, parents, teachers about aspects of apprenticeships face to face or online • Engaging with students at Pathways events, facilitating workshops and ensuring students are engaging with activities • Raising aspirations, acting as a role model and encouraging students to aim higher, helping them to overcome their perceived barriers to HE • Be aware of Pathways Ambassador policies and procedures including safeguarding children

You will be assessed on all of the above essential criteria if you make it through to our assessment centre and training. The online application form will be made available to you once request the form. The online application form should be completed and submitted in plenty of time to meet the deadline.

Students whose online application is successful will be invited to attend a compulsory assessment centre. Due to the current situation with Covid-19, this will take place online and further details will be sent in due course. Please indicate your availability on the application form. If successful you must attend all compulsory training sessions before qualifying as a Pathways Ambassador.

Conditions of service

Please note that the availability of work will vary week to week and is not guaranteed. Due to limits placed my UNITEMPS, you are unable to work more than 15 hours per week.

Payment

Pathways Ambassadors are casual workers, £9.77 (£8.72 + £1.05 holiday pay) per hour of work completed. In order to receive payment, you must be fully registered with UNITEMPS at the University of Leicester, prior to the start of the programme. Further details will be provided to successful candidates. Alternatively, we can reimburse you for your time with vouchers of your choice
