Included in the measures of the REGION-TERNA Memorandum of Agreement Rationalization of the electricity grid in the city of Nearly 60 km of electricity lines will be removed in the area of the municipalities of , Rivoli, and and of the “Mario Carrara” urban park

Rationalize and develop Turin’s high voltage electricity grid while respecting the environment. The number of kilometres of cables and pylons to be pulled down will be seven times higher than that of the new infrastructures: 58 km of lines to be removed compared to 8 km of new power lines. The objective is to improve the quality and safety of the electricity service in one of the most important areas of the Piedmont region.

Details of the work to be carried out in the city of TURIN New lines (km) overhead (outside the city): 5-8 cable (outside the city): 7-10 new cables (inside the city): 35- cable (inside the city): 2-6 To be removed (km) overhead (inside the city): 20 cable (inside the city): 25 lines (in neighboring towns): 6 lines (outside neighboring towns): 32 Summary (km) New overhead lines: 8 Removed overhead lines 58

Objectives Rationalization of the 220 kV electricity grid in Turin is based on the awareness of the inadequacy of the grid itself — that dates back to the 1950’s — to transfer electricity, also in view of the city’s increased power load and of the insufficient capacity of the existing cable lines that are obsolete. These conditions cause risks for safety and for the continuity of the grid’s power supply and require urgent solutions. By signing the Memorandum of Agreement with the Piedmont Region, Terna will strengthen and modernize the grid to meet development needs and restore a territorial balance with the objective of having grid infrastructures coexist with the land. On the basis of the provisions included in the 19-5515 Resolution of the Regional Council, work to be implemented concerns the critical areas of the “Mario Carrara” urban park in Turin and of the municipalities of Grugliasco, Rivoli, Pianezza and Alpignano. The details of the work to be carried out will be defined allowing to quickly place underground all the lines that presently interfere with the urban park and also place underground or remove segments of the 220 kV and 132 kV lines that supply four municipalities of the area around Turin..

Main benefits • Reducing the risk of power interruptions in the primary stations along the 220 kV “Sangone – West Turin – Levanna – Pianazza” lines and “Stura – Turin center – South Turin – Sangone” lines. • Allowing safely operating the 220 kV line that supplies the areas of Turin Center, South, West and Levanna, thus improving the service’s quality and continuity. • Increasing the 220 kV grid meshing in Turin by reducing congestion and allowing to safely transfer power along the 220 kV grid. The work will also contribute to improving and safely transferring power produced from the AEM plant in that uses combined technology.

Additional environmental benefits • Reusing 65% of old lines; • Minimizing the opening of building yards; • Minimizing the impact by means of Protected landscape and architectural areas through prior coordination with the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in identifying locations; • Minimizing the impact by means of Environmental and Naturalistic areas through prior involvement of the appropriate bodies; • Minimizing the impact on the landscape through prior coordination with the appropriate bodies through the use of naturalistic engineering, of low environmental impact pylons and of colors that are compatible with the surrounding landscape.
