2018 Festival Program Guide A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR The Festival has never been, and never will be, merely about past successes. It is a dynamic event, designed Ten years. It’s incredible to consider the sheer number each year to be about what is now, and what is next – for of terrific films and filmmakers who have come to LBI movies, for media and for discussing what these films, to share their films since the lights dimmed prior to the talks and experiences reflect: the world around us, at this very first film here at LIFF in 2009. As of November, the market share for Korean films in the domestic market stood at 55 percent, which indicates that the yearly market share of Korean films will be over 50 percent for the third year in a row. In the international arena as well, Korean films were invited to major international film festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, and San Sebastian and received a warm reception from critics and audiences. It is often said that the current prosperity of Korean cinema is due to the strong commitment and policies introduced by the KIM Dae-joong government in 1999 to promote Korean films.

The photo scandal started with the uploading of hundreds of sexually-explicit photos starting on Jan. 27 featuring Chen and various Hong Kong starlets. The pictures have spread like wildfire on the Internet ever since. Chen said at the press conference the photos were stolen and distributed without his approval. "These photos had not been shown to people and were never intended to be shown to anyone," he said. Hong Kong police were trying to find the first releaser of the photos and had made several arrests in connection with them.

He is also one of the few Japanese writers who have simultaneously and successfully produced humorous, comical fiction and essays as well as serious literary works. He has worked in a variety of genres. For example, The House of Nire (Nireke no hitobito), his most prominent work, is a long family saga informed by history and Dr. Manbô at Sea (Dokutoru Manbô kôkaiki) is a humorous travelogue. He has also produced in other genres such as children‟s stories and science fiction. This study provides an introduction to Kita Morio‟s fiction and essays, in particular, his versatile writing styles. Also, through the examination of Kita‟s representative works in each genre, the study examines some overarching traits in his writing. For this reason, I have approached his large body of works by according a chapter to each genre. Chapter one provides a biographical overview of Kita Morio‟s life up to the present. The chapter also gives a brief biographical sketch of Kita‟s father, Saitô Mokichi (1882-1953), who is one of the most prominent tanka poets in modern times.

While digital effects are tools to assist the action performance of non-kung fu actors, Dragon Tiger Gate (2006), a comic-turned movie, becomes a case-in-point that it applies digitality to Yen, a celebrated kung fu star who is famed by his genuine martial dexterity. In the framework of remediation, this essay will explore how the digital media intervene of the star construction of Donnie Yen. As Dragon Tiger Gate reveals, technological effects work to refashion and repurpose Yen’s persona by combining digital effects and the kung fu body. While the narrative of pain and injury reveals the attempt of visual immediacy, the hybridized bodily representation evokes awareness more to the act of representing kung fu than to the kung fu itself.
