MONASH UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF RURAL HEALTH (MUDRH) STUDENT ACCOMMODATION INFORMATION

Monash Rural Health provide Allied Health students with very affordable and comfortable accommodation for the duration of their placements in .

Our accommodation is available in Moe/Newborough, and . Students who do their placement in are generally allocated a room in Moe/Newborough.

All of our accommodation is fully furnished. Moe/Newborough comprises of single lockable bedrooms with shared bathrooms, lounge and kitchen.

The houses we currently lease range from two, four or six bedrooms.

The beds are either king single, double or queen. All rooms have a desk, bedside table and lamp.

INFORMATION TO KNOW BEFORE ARRIVING

1. Linen Linen is not supplied. Students are to bring their own pillows, doonas, sheets and towels. 2. Telephones Mobile phones will need to be used.

3. Internet connection In Traralgon and Warragul Wifi is available. In Moe/Newborough students have access via Eduroam suing the hardwired network.

Monash students are to use normal Monash log-in. Other students will need to contact their IT department to ensure that they have Eduroam access before they arrive.

4. Food For those who do not have a car, it is advisable to bring basic food supplies for your first evening meal and breakfast.

5. Taxi’s All of our accommodation is a couple of kilometres or more from the train station so it is recommended students who arrive by train call the local taxi to get the accommodation.

ON ARRIVAL

6. Accessing the accommodation Information is sent to you giving details on how to access your accommodation. The biggest challenge for those staying in Moe/Newborough is finding the building, as it is a large site, so please read all information sent to you thoroughly.

7. Car Parking Parking is available at all sites.

DURING YOUR STAY

8. Bedrooms Students are asked to keep bedrooms clean as they are not serviced during your stay. Vacuums and dusting clothes are located in the laundry.

9. Fire Ready Students need to be aware that we live in a fire prone district. Please read the information below taken from the VicEmergency website and consider downloading the ‘VicEmergency app’.

Do I need to access emergency information from other sources? Yes. It is important to stay alert to the conditions around you, and use more than one source for information and warnings.

You can get information by tuning in to ABC local radio, or other emergency broadcasters including commercial and community radio or SKY TV, by downloading the FireReady (now called the VicEmergency )app, phoning the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226

or following VicEmergency on Facebook and Twitter.

Technology might fail and as part of your emergency plan it is important to know where you can get emergency information and warnings.

This includes the alternate sources above if you don’t have access to internet or mobile phone coverage.

10. Insurance Personal effects of residents are not covered by Monash University’s insurance policy. It is recommended that students insure their own valuables against loss or damage. Monash University will not be held responsible for loss of valuables during students’ stay.

11. Security It is recommended that personal belongings are kept in locked rooms at all times. Leaving personal belongings unattended in lounge areas or other places may result in loss of property. For security reasons it is important to ensure that all entry doors are kept locked at all times.

ONLY authorised booked in students are permitted stay overnight at the accommodation.

12. Emergency Procedures In case of an emergency, please call 000 in the first instance and when practical call us. Please call 03 5128 1000 during working hours or 0408 684 035 after hours.

13. Monash is a Smoke Free Zone Smoking is not permitted in the accommodation or within close proximity of any external doors or windows. Students smoking inside will be charged cleaning fees and be asked to find alternate accommodation.

AMENITIES AND STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

14. Kitchen Students are required to maintain the kitchen area in a clean and tidy state for other students. Please ensure that all dirty dishes are washed, dried and put away and benches are wiped down as soon as practical after all meals. This is also to avoid attracting ants

Kettles, toasters and other cooking appliances are not permitted in bedrooms as this may cause the fire system to activate. The use of candles is also not permitted for this reason.

15. First Aid Kit The First Aid Kits are located in all locations.

16. Laundry Washing machines clothes lines and clothes horses are available at available at all locations.

Irons and ironing boards are also available at all sites.

17. Rubbish Disposal Students are asked to empty the rubbish bins in their bedrooms and the kitchen bins regularly. In particular, on Thursday night before the cleaner comes in Friday or fortnightly.

We also ask students to put out the bins for council pickup on the appropriate days. 18. Energy Wise When leaving the building remember to close windows and turn off the lights and aircon or heater.

19. Repairs and Maintenance Maintenance books are provided so that anything that is broken or needs repairing can be recorded for staff to follow up. We also provide phone numbers to call when an urgent maintenance issue arises.

20. Cleaning It is the responsibility of residents to keep bedrooms & bathrooms clean. A vacuum cleaner is located in the laundry and we ask that you vac your room before you leave. Please vacate by 10am on departure day to allow time for cleaning.

A cleaner will be in on Friday to clean all common areas and vacated rooms.

21. Payment Students are sent an invoice via email soon after they arrive. The invoice will provide details on how the payment can be made.

22. Safety Hazards Please do not leave any belongings in the hallway as they are a safety hazard. Please close windows and turn off the lights, fan and heater when you leave.

ON DEPARTURE

Please leave your room as you found it, empty rubbish bins and leave your key in the bedroom door. Dispose of, or take home, your food from the kitchen cupboards, fridge and freezer.

Rooms are to be vacated by 10am on the day of departure.

23. Inspection of Facilities Inspections are carried out at the conclusion of each student’s stay. Reports are completed and any damaged or missing property that is not accounted for may be invoiced to the occupant.

OTHER INFORMATION

24. Public Transport See V/Line for train timetables. Warragul is on the Gippsland line.

Bus Timetable: Bus Lines operates the local bus service. There is a bus that runs from Moe through to Traralgon via Morwell.

25. Restaurants There are a multitude of different restaurants in the Latrobe Valley. Trip Advisor is a good place to look for where to go for a meal.

26. Tourism There are a lot of things to do and see in the Gippsland Region. Tarra Bulga National Park, Walhalla and Waratah Bay are just a couple of the highlights. The Travel site is a good place to find something that interests you.

27. Sport There are a wide range of sporting group options in the area. Google will be the best thing to help you find what you are after

29. Shopping The usual range of shops are available in Moe, Morwell and Traralgon. All three towns also have a Coles and Woolworths.
