KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, Volume 2, Issue 5 NAGARBHAVI October, 2019 NEWSLETTER

Inside this issue: Your reaction matters more than what happens to you “Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable 1 and that she didn‟t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and Motivational Stories struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed.” Students Achievement 2-18 Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, Art Corner 19 eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, Students Corner 20-23 moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the boiled eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. „Daughter, what do you see?‟ „Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,‟ she hastily replied. „Look closer,‟ he said, „and touch the potatoes.‟ She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face. „Father, what does this mean?‟ she asked. He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard. However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new. „Which are you,‟ he asked his daughter. „When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?‟ Anvita Vijay , 3A

BON VOYAGE “It is better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times“, the students of KLE Society‟s School, Nagarbhavi accompanied by few teachers gathered at the Kempegowda international airport, with the same exuber- ance to explore and venture the colourful land of Rajasthan. The “Land of Kings” attested tremendous cultural assets and heritage. I was on the edge of my seat as we were nearing Rajasthan. We began our journey by reconnoitering the cuisine of Rajasthan , in Chowkidani. Hot savour, succulent sweets and delicious Indian breads with a variety of curries were served. I indeed felt like a Maharaja! After cuisine, it was the chance of exorbitant forts , palaces and temples to be explored . In Jaipur, the Pink City, we saw the City palace , Albert museum, the world famous „Jantar Mantar‟ , it was the main attraction of that day indeed , Amer fort and last but not the least, the calm and cool marble floored Birla Mandir. In Blue City, Jodhpur we delved into the Umaid Bhawan palace where the popular duo tied knots –Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas; it was an allur- ing palace as modern as Banglore‟s UB city and as expensive too! Follwed by the Mehrangarh Fort at peak , Jas- want Tada and finally the Clock Tower Town where all the shopaholic ran all over the market, profiting the mer- chants and being bankrupt themselves in the very beginning of the trip! Udaipur and Mount Abu were worth visiting, the greenery and the coolness enchanted our roasted skin after visiting the pink and Blue Cities. In Ahmedabad, we visited the intricately designed and marvelous Dilwara Jain temple, Akshardam ,a Holy temple. On the last day of the trip we paid a visit to the Gujarat Science City and Gandhi Ashram This trip brought a feeling of togetherness and a sense of collective belonging among all the high schoolers. It has taught the teenagers time sense and how to keep their things safe and organized. It would be of great loss if we couldn‟t have been a part of this wonderful trip. I have also realized the fact that tourism provides employment to many in and abroad as well. There is rest of the beautiful India to be discovered yet so let‟s go ahead and ex- plore the Incredible India! - Ananya Prasad, 10A KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, NAGARBHAVI NEWSLETTER Page 3 Page 4 KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, NAGARBHAVI NEWSLETTER

Madhuvana Resort for Grades 4 and 5 The trip to this resort was a very different experience altogether. This resort in Kanakapura is reminiscent of our childhood days. It recreated the blissful simplicity of our childhood days with traditional games, rides and pond to dive into. Firstly, there was a melodious traditional music played at the entrance to welcome us. Then, they provided tasty breakfast which consisted of Idly, chutney, sambar with delicious Kesaribhath. Soon after that, the children were engaged in having fun through many activities/games like tug of war, rides on carts. They educated the children by showcasing how to make Jaggery, followed by toy making and pottery making. Children had a lot of fun in the rain dance with traditional music in the background and then they spent sometime playing in the pond. After these tiring outdoor games, we had to settle in their bhojanashaale and indulge in some authentic cuisine which included poori, saagu, rice, rasam and curd rice with delicious dry jamoon and crispies. After having high tea, we all gathered for watching the folk dance of Karnataka and everybody including the teach- ers danced to the traditional music. We left the place at 3.30 p.m. with a lot of pictures and memories!! KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, NAGARBHAVI NEWSLETTER Page 9 Page 10 KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, NAGARBHAVI NEWSLETTER

Memoirs of an Adventure-filled Day for Grades 8, 9 and 10 In the second week of October, the high school students had an opportunity to visit „Eagle Unbound Resort‟ which was a culmination of fun and adventure trip. There, we were welcomed with a scrumptious and filling breakfast. Just as we were getting comfortable, we were introduced to a host of adventure and fun -filled activities. At this point we were split into two groups randomly. Since we weren‟t necessarily with our close friends, this helped us get to know each other better and expand our friend circle .It was now time for us to get out of our comfort zone as we tried our hand at rock climbing, walked the high rope and zipped across on the zip line. Next, it was time for a group obstacle course. Since this was a group activity, it helped us develop leadership skills, understand each other‟s strengths and weaknesses, and most importantly, work together as a group. Later, it was time to test our aim, precision and concentration skills by taking a shot at archery and shooting. Finally the rain dance proved that despite being soaked wet to our bones, we could still shake a leg. To sum it up, this was not only a fun trip but a great bonding experience for all of us .We created tonnes of memories while still getting our daily dose of physical exercise. - Praeksha , 10C KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, NAGARBHAVI NEWSLETTER Page 11 Page 12 KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, NAGARBHAVI NEWSLETTER KLE SOCIETY’S SCHOOL, NAGARBHAVI NEWSLETTER Page 13

Mahatma Gandhi Only because of that silence You came back to India in 1915 You could stop the violence You could find the revolutionaries were all teens To throw the bomb they were all keen Because of your need But you knew if this happened what would have been We got the freedom indeed You tried to stop violence by all mean By now your achievements we have all seen

Only because of your head The butter went smooth on the bread When it comes to your case Due to which the people could already taste Nonviolence is the only base The future ahead Just by having that one smile on your face You sent the Britishers away without any trace

TEXTING: A BOON OR A CURSE Man is a social animal. Social is the word here I want to emphasize on. We are social, that means we need to communicate. Today we have a ton of ways to communicate but we can broadly distinguish communication as in real time and virtual communication. Latter has big impact in our lives in these times when the world is full of modern technologies. Texting means conveying your messages in short texts. And cherry on the cake is the laziness that has been gifted to us by computers and mobile devices. In that situation all of us prompt to write „K‟ instead of „OK‟, „BC‟ or „COZ‟ instead of „because‟ and what not.

Anyways, let‟s move on to the positives, Talking about its positive side, the major incentive here is connectivity. They say internet has locked this world in a small room. Anonymity is great deal here. This is a plus side for introverts. While texting, you can be whatever you want. If you are not happy with your look you can change it. Eg: You don‟t need to go to your friend, or send him a letter, which reaches your friend a couple of days later. Talking about its negatives, all glitters are not gold. Firstly, this reduces real life communication. People become less open, and hard to communicate with the real world. Seriously, it destroys the language. People want text fast and use abbreviations, such as, „BRB‟ (Be Right Back), „IDK‟ (I Don‟t Know) And what not, I have seen blunders happening in understanding these abbreviations. Moreover, the youngsters are getting addicted to the messaging platform. It is more of an addiction rather than convenience, and if people don‟t find any messages, they start feeling low. People are unable to differentiate between texting and the real-life situation. There‟s hardly any friend available whom they can talk their heart face to face.

To conclude, texting in communication have advantages and disadvantages but we can‟t change it because of the changing world. More modern technology invented, the more we use. -Venkat P, 10B

Global Warming & Its Preventive Measures

Global warming is the continuous rise in warming of the earth‟s surface due to the increased level of carbon-di- oxide gas. Global warning has become a big issue which needs to be solved by the positive initiation of countries all over the world. As gradual increase in the earth‟s temperature calls various threats as well as makes the existence of life hard on this planet. It enhances the gradual and permanent changes in the earth‟s climate and thus affecting the nature‟s balance.

Rise in the „carbon-di-oxide‟ level on the earth, impacts the human life to a great level through continuous heat waves, sudden occurrence of strong storms, unpredictable and unexpected cyclone‟s etc. It has been researched that increasing emission of carbon-di-oxide in the atmosphere is because of the non-stop burning of fossil fuels, cutting of forests, gases used in refrigerator, etc.

The increasing level of Methane and other toxic gases causes greenhouse effect on the earth in which all the greenhouse gases absorbs thermal radiation which in turn is re-radiated to all directions and come back to the earth‟s surface causing increase in the temperature of earth‟s surface causing increase in the temperature of earth‟s surface further again leading to global warming.

In order to stop the life-threatening effects of global warming, we should take a permanent break from all that caus- ing increase in the carbon-di-oxide level and other green house gases leading to the green house effect and the earth‟s surface warming up. We should stop deforestation and grow more tress, lessen the use of electricity and stop the burning of fossil fuels in a large scale. - Devansh Harsha, 10A

Mahatma Gandhi‟s life inspires me. The life of Mahatma Gandhi has been an inspiration not only for Indians, but for people from all other countries as well. He was an epitome of many virtues, self-less actions and peace-spreading thoughts. No wonder he is called, MAHATMA [The great soul] by the entire world. People are born; people die, but some people after they are gone leave behind them a trail of light that illumines the path for the striving followers. Longfellow has praised such people in his poem, „A PSALM OF LIFE‟. He says, “And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time”; The above written lines aptly describe the sublimity of Mahatma Gandhi‟s life. Mahatma Gandhi was a great soul whose philosophy and ideology influenced the world considerably. He practiced non-violence and tried to resist all opposition spiritually. He believed in overcoming fear, dependence on others through self-reliance and self-industry. He successfully resisted the British injustice, aggression, oppression using his non-violence and Satyagraha. Ultimately he succeeded in winning independence from the British. His philosophy and ideology were adopted by many great leaders of the world. Leo Tolstoy, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and many others successfully adopted and practiced his teachings. The world acknowledges his contributions to mankind in modern times. Mahatma Gandhi‟s ideology is universal which is relevant for all times. People know very little about his subtly powerful and pragmatic ideology. If his ideology were not affective, the world would not have accorded him the title of MAHATMA. His ideology is admired throughout the world for its universal and spiritual appeal. Its relevance in the contemporary turbulent times is more than it was in the past. If Mahatma Gandhi‟s most famous ideology of non-violence is practiced by each individual, state and country in the world; conflicts, wars, violence etc will be wiped out from the face of the earth. People will live in a secured and happier world! Similarly, Gandhi‟s ideology on vegetarianism, truthfulness, self- reliance, observing silence, cleanliness etc holds solutions to almost all the prob- lems affecting people in the modern times. If put into practice, they have the power to enable the modern man enjoy life holistically. There is inspiration in eve- rything he did. BAPU YOU REALLY INSPIRED ME. BY: RISHITH. H. R., 8D
