TERNA: THE NEW QUARTU - QUARTUCCIO CABLE CONNECTION IS NOW IN SERVICE

• The project ensures greater efficiency and security of the electricity grid in the area

• The new underground cable will allow for the demolition of around 7.7 km of old overhead power lines in the proximity of green and residential areas

Rome, 9 October 2018 – The new 150 kV electricity line connecting, via underground cable, the primary substation at Quartu with the one in Quartuccio, in the Cagliari area, is now in service.

The new power line, a result of agreements between Terna and the Region of , will bring noticeable benefits to the electricity system in the Cagliari area, both in terms of security and efficiency of the service, and increasing reliability during maintenance.

The new cable connection, placed along the existing road network, is 5.9 km long and runs through the Municipalities of Quartu, and .

The project plan will allow for the subsequent demolition of around 7.7 km of old overhead power lines in the “Quartu-Quartucciu” area, as well as 26 pylons located for example near the houses of the neighbourhood of Pitz’e Serra, which sprang up after the power lines were built) and on green public spaces like the Europa Park.

The demolition works will represent the conclusive phase of the project in the Cagliari area as scheduled in the Agreement signed with the Region of Sardinia. The 150 kV “ - Molentargius” line has already been demolished in 2008 and 2009, along with the pylons located in the Molentargius - Saline environmental park.

The implementation of this development project has taken 1 year, during which time around 10 companies and 40 employees, many from the local area, have been involved in the process.
