Congratulations on the second Twinkle Ball… Christine: It’s about giving something back. Every penny goes to the National Autistic Society because they mean so much to our children and us.
What’s your advice to parents of children with autism? Paddy: Supporting each other is key, we’d be lost without each other. We’re lucky because although I’m busy at work, we’re still a very close family unit. Christine: Accepting help is one of the best things I ever did to help me through. It just gives you a little glimmer of freedom.
What’s the most challenging part of dealing with autism? Christine: It’s easy to get down, but if you’re in the middle of a supermarket and you’re dealing with a meltdown, we now just forget everyone else around us. If their routine changes, then meltdowns can be several times a day. Paddy: We now do things to avoid the meltdowns. For example, if I go into a public toilet and there is a hand dryer on the wall, if that goes off it’ll upset them so if no one is in there, we’re okay to go in.
Paddy, you recently called Christine the kids’ hero when she appeared on BBC Breakfast to discuss autism... She is. I love it when she goes on TV. Seeing her talking so articulately about autism makes me so proud. I look at her and then the kids and think, you’re so lucky to have a mum like that.
How are the twins? Christine: They’ve been in school for 18 months and the difference is amazing. They’re more settled, they love their routine and it’s like a second home. A year ago, we were worried about how they’d cope but I drop them off feeling so confident. Paddy: They understand things more now. They used to struggle with thunderstorms, for example, but now we can explain them to them.
Do they go to regular school? Christine: Yes, we were worrying about whether they needed to go to special school last year before they started, but they’re now in regular school and they’re in year one, which is their proper year group. They get one-to-one help and they’re doing so well.

Christine: They don’t have speech like other five year olds, they’re more on a three-year- old level, but they can tell us what they want.
How’s Felicity doing? Christine: She blows us away with how smart she is, but we fully believe she’s on the spectrum. She’s often on her tiptoes, she’s fussy with her food and things have to be pretty precise with her routine. She lines things up in order and tenses her body when she’s excited. She’s too young to have the test but I don’t think it’ll make much difference because, unlike the twins, her speech is amazing. Perhaps as she’s the youngest she wants to be seen and heard.
How do they all get on? Paddy: Felicity follows Leo around but he can’t be bothered with his little sister so she can get upset, but that’s kids for you. Christine: They’re all happy, though. They’re slowly learning to dress themselves. Leo put his pants on the other day, they were back to front and inside out but he was so proud! While other kids get changed in PE, our children struggle, but now they wear velcro school shirts, which look like normal ones. They just pat them instead of having to do up buttons! ‘ACCEPTING HELP IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I EVER DID’
Would you like more kids? Christine: No, I’m done. I would’ve loved more but our hands are full. Leo’s still very sensitive with his food; he will only eat beige, dry food so he’s not growing as fast as he should be. He’s got hyper mobility so he has an occupational therapist, physiotherapy and various eye appointments. He has eczema and he sees a dietician, a nutritionist and a respiratory nurse.
You’ve said that you think yourself and Paddy suffer with autism, Christine… We both have mild traits. For me it’s the struggling to socialise and food. I suffered with anorexia as a teenager and I struggled in the school canteen because of the noise and crowds. I skipped school meals for six years, which led to an eating disorder. I’m always asking what the twins have eaten at school; I didn’t get that help as a child.

Does being away affect your relationship? Christine: We miss him like mad and it’s exhausting him being away, but we’re used to it now and he’s providing for us. We all need each other, we all play equal roles, and we’d be lost without him. I feel incredibly lucky that I’ve been able to be at home as much as I have and make all the hospital appointments. Now they’re at school it’s getting easier. Paddy: We’ve talked about Christine and the kids coming down to London to Take Me Out. They would love all the colourful lights on set and Christine can get glammed up.

ithout another Hollywood star in sight, it was a family affair when actor Jude Law got hitched to his partner Dr Phillipa Coan last week in an intimate Wcivil ceremony. Held at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall, the day was a superbly stylish affair. While business psychologist Phillipa, 32, looked chic in a ruched, long-sleeved mini dress and matching hat, the groom, 46, looked dapper in a blue corduroy suit, suede shoes and a fedora. Having exchanged vows and rings, the newlyweds departed from the venue in the same black Range Rover they arrived in. They were making their way to the Alfred Dunhill private members’ club, where they held a low-key reception. They were joined by close friends and family, including the father of five’s eldest son Rafferty. The 22 year old, whose mother is Jude’s first wife Sadie Frost, was thought to be Jude’s best man. Jude and Phillipa, who confirmed their engagement in February after four years of dating, are rumoured to be holding a second star-studded wedding bash in France later this summer. The Captain Marvel star recently admitted that his new wife has ‘never seen a Marvel movie’, proudly adding: ‘She’s a doctor.’ Phillipa holds a PhD in environmental change and runs her own consultancy. However, at the time of going to press Harry was still expected to fulfil a visit to The Hague this Thursday to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games 2020, the tournament for injured servicemen and women. According to royal aides, the trip had ‘been in the diary for a year’ but added that he may cancel his visit to The Hague if it clashes with Meghan giving birth. While many were surprised Harry had chosen to go away around the time the baby was expected, experts tell OK! that he can’t wait to be a dad. ‘It has long been Harry’s dream to settle down and have a family. regnancy certainly suits Gemma Atkinson. Ever since she announced she was expecting her first child back in February, the actress and radio presenter appears Pto have fully embraced her bump and has been absolutely glowing. She also hasn’t been shy about sharing the high and lows of pregnancy, revealing she’s ‘exhausted’ one minute and feels like ‘superwoman’ the next. ‘The first seven weeks I could barely move with sickness!’ she tells OK!. During her latest shoot for her edit of Reebok’s sports collection with Very.co.uk, Gemma admitted she felt ‘anything but photoshoot ready’ after a 4am start for her Hits Radio Breakfast Show. But thankfully a pep talk from her boyfriend, Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Márquez, 28, left her raring to go. ‘Gorka always boosts my confidence,’ she reveals to OK!. And despite being almost 30 weeks pregnant, keen fitness fan Gemma hasn’t let her exercise regime slip, doing everything from body weight exercises to Pilates. ‘I’m aware that what I eat, how I feel and how rested I am all goes back to my little baby,’ she adds. Here, Gemma, 34, tells OK! about feeling lucky and why she won’t feel pressurised to return to her pre-pregnancy shape…

40 Have you had any cravings? I only really craved bread at the start, but after three months that went away. I was having toast with my omelette at breakfast and if I had my veg stew I’d mop it up with two slices of bread and butter.
Has your bump made anything more difficult for you? Only sleeping, as I usually lie on my tummy. Now, post seven months, tying my shoe laces is tricky too!
How have your workouts changed throughout your pregnancy? I’m obviously not lifting as heavy as I was. I’m always making sure my heart rate isn’t too high where I’m struggling to breathe. I’ve also incorporated more yoga and Pilates to help stretch my muscles. I love reformer Pilates and I’ve already decided to keep at it when I decide to train again post-baby. ‘THERE’S A LOT OF PRESSURE ON MUMS-TO-BE AND IT CAN BE DAUNTING’
Some new mums feel the pressure to get straight back into shape after the birth. How will you avoid this? A lot of people have asked me how quickly I want to ‘snap back’ and the truth is, I don’t. I want to spend time with my baby and rest up. When I feel ready I’ll slowly get back to my old routine. As long as I’m eating correctly I’m happy, because I know that’s the start to getting back in shape and mentally feeling great. There’s a lot of pressure on mums-to-be and it can sometimes be a bit daunting.
Exercise is a massive part of your life. Do you think you’ll miss the gym in those first few weeks? I’ve missed the gym these last few weeks! The endorphins I get from training are brilliant. But my yoga has kept them coming and I walk my

two dogs Ollie and Norman twice a day. The bigger picture is that I’m growing a human. It’s a privilege denied to so many women and I know every single day how lucky I am. Whether I can make it to the gym or if my body is different afterwards is the least of my worries. Having a healthy, happy pregnancy and baby is what matters to me most.
You said you needed a pep talk from Gorka during your shoot for your edit of Reebok’s sports collection for Very.co.uk. Is he good at boosting your confidence? Gorka always boosts my confidence in and out of the gym. When I’m having a bad day, or not feeling my best, he constantly reminds me that there’s more to health and fitness than just someone’s appearance.
What’s your favourite item from your Reebok edit? On non-training days I love the Reebok hoodies. They’ve combined both style and comfort. Training wise I love the high-waisted leggings. I think they’re fab for making us ladies feel more secure as they hug you in the right places and hide the bits you want to cover until you feel comfortable enough to show them off. They will be my go-to post-baby. They also have loads of funky designs and plain ones, depending on what mood you’re in.
Are you pleased to be able to show that mums-to-be can be fit and active? I think it’s great that Reebok is behind expectant mums still wanting to be active. Times are changing and the days of ‘do nothing’ or ‘you’re eating for two’ are gone. The reality is we’re eating for ourselves and a tiny baby, so we don’t need to gorge on food. Preparing for labour by being fit and healthy ourselves is now very much encouraged. Obviously every pregnancy is different. The first seven weeks I could hardly move with sickness! But as long as you have the go ahead from your doctor and you know your body, there’s no reason why pregnancy should be an excuse to let yourself go.
Are you planning to show your child the benefits of an active lifestyle? I absolutely want my child to have an active, healthy lifestyle. I’ve already bought a mini blender so I can make their food instead of buying packet stuff. People have said: ‘You won’t have time,’ but it’s all I’ve known for the past nine years. I like knowing what’s going in my body and thankfully Gorka is the same and he’s a fabulous cook. OK!

Rochenda Sandall, 30, joined the cast this series playing Lisa McQueen, a S‘dream come true’ for the Grimsby-born actress. ‘I got lucky. TAnd the Essex boy’s road to success has been quite the roller coaster. Born in the leafy village of Clavering, he and his sister Anne-Marie grew up helping his parents Trevor and Sally out in their pub The Cricketers.
