#35 SCOTT THORMAN • Manager • Scott Thorman was promoted to Naturals manager in 2020 after leading Wilmington (A+) to the Carolina League championship in 2019 and Lexington (A) to the South Atlantic League title in 2018. • Last year, he earned a Sports Management World Wide (SMWW) Baseball Analytics Certificate. • Prior to his two-season stint in Class-A Lexington (2017-2018), he served in Burlington as manager (2015-2016) and bench coach (2014)... He also managed the Arizona Fall League’s Surprise Saguaros in 2019. • A first round pick by Atlanta in 2000 and Futures Game participant in 2003, Thorman played in the Majors for the Braves from 2006-2007 before playing for the Royals at Triple-A Omaha in 2009-2010 and the Tigers at Triple-A Toledo in 2011. • In his two major league seasons, Thorman totaled 175 games played, with 16 home runs and 50 runs batted in. • The first baseman and outfielder competed for Canada in the 2006 World Baseball Classic and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. • Thorman graduated from Ashford University in 2016 with a master’s degree in organizational management. • He resides in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, with his wife Kelly, and their three children: Robbie, Tommy and Allie.

JUSTIN KEMP • Certified Athletic Trainer • Justin Kemp returns for his third season as the Northwest Arkansas athletic trainer, after serving in the same role for Advanced Rookie Idaho Falls (2016-2018) and Surprise (2015). • Kemp spent the 2014 season as an intern athletic trainer for the Kansas City Royals. • He is a graduate of Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise wellness and played baseball for four years. • He also attended South Dakota State University, where he earned a master’s degree in athletic training and worked for the Jackrabbit baseball team. • Kemp resides in Spearfish, South Dakota. C.J. MIKKELSEN • Strength & Conditioning Coach • C.J. Mikkelsen will serve as the Northwest Arkansas strength & conditioning coach, after being slated to fill that same role at Idaho Falls in 2020. • He graduated in December 2019 with a master’s degree in sports physiology from Texas A&M University, where he also worked as a sports performance graduate intern. • Mikkelsen earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise and wellness from Arizona State University in 2016. • He resides in Desert Hills, Arizona.

DANNY HELMER • Coordinator of Clubhouse Operations • Danny enters his 23rd season in the Royals’ organization and first as coordinator of clubhouse operations • He previously worked for 13 years at Northwest Arkansas, managing both the home and visiting clubhouses. Before that, he spent nine years with the Wichita Wranglers, including four years as batboy, three as the clubhouse assistant and two overseeing the home and road clubhouses. • He’s a three-time recipient of the Texas League Visiting Clubhouse Award (2008, ‘14, ‘18) and managed the Arizona Fall League clubhouse from 2012-’14 and in 2017. • Helmer grew up in Wichita and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies in 2008. • He resides in Bentonville, Arkansas with his wife Morgan, and three children, including sons Maddox and Mason, and daughter Maier. 6
