Secara umum, komik sering diartikan sebagai cerita yang bergambar. Berikut ini adalah pengertian komik secara khusus. Maestro komik Will Eisner menggunakan istilah “seni berturutan” untuk menjelaskan komik. Scott McCloud memberikan pendapat bahwa komik dapat memiliki arti yang banyak, antara lain: a. Gambar-gambar serta lambang-lambang lain yang ter-jukstaposisi (berdekatan, bersebelahan, istilah yang sulit dalam sekolah seni) dalam turutan tertentu, untuk menyampaikan informasi dan/atau mencapai tanggapan estetis dari pembacanya. b. Tokoh-tokoh pahlawan super berkostum warna cerah melawan penjahat, yang ingin menguasai dunia dengan segala tindakan kekerasan yang sensasional. c.
