Canarias Cultural, Santa Cruz, Tenerife Program Activity 1: Santa Cruz de Tenerife Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a global city (with Sufficiency status) and capital (jointly with Las Palmas) of the Canary Islands, the capital of Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and of the island of Tenerife. Santa Cruz has a population of 206,593 (2013) within its administrative limits. Santa Cruz is located in northeast quadrant of Tenerife, about 210 kilometres (130 mi) off the northwestern coast of Africa within the Atlantic Ocean. The distance to the nearest point of mainland Spain is about 1,300 kilometres (810 mi). Between the 1833 territorial division of Spain and 1927 Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the sole capital of the Canary Islands, until 1927 when a decree ordered that the capital of the Canary Islands be shared, as it remains at present. The port is of great importance and is the communications hub between Europe, Africa and Americas, with cruise ships arriving from many nations. The city is the focus for domestic and inter-island communications in the Canary Islands. The main landmarks of the city include the Auditorio de Tenerife (Auditorium of Tenerife), the Santa Cruz Towers (Torres de Santa Cruz) and the Iglesia de la Concepción. Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosts the first headquarters of the Center UNESCO in the Canary Islands. In recent years the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has seen the construction of a significant number of modern structures and the city's skyline is the sixth in height across the country, only behind Madrid, Benidorm, Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao. The city is the third-most populous city of the archipelago and the second-most populous city of the island. La Laguna's historical center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. In 2003 the municipality started an ambitious Urban Plan to renew this area, that was carried out by the firm AUC S.L. (Arquitectura Urbanismo y Cooperación). The city was the ancient capital of the Canary Islands. La Laguna lies right alongside the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, thus the two cities and municipalities form a single large urban center, linked by tram. It belongs to a generation of science museums whose objective is not simply to show scientific and technical achievements of an era or a place, nor to demonstrate them by adding a pedagogical and cultural will to the conservation and presentation of that heritage. The aim of these museums is to communicate science, using all available means, especially interactivity and experimentation in multidisciplinary environments that enhance the playful aspects of perception and analysis of reality, with real objects but also with multimedia tools. The physicist Frank Oppenheimer created in 1969 the first Science Center with these characteristics - the San Francisco Exploratorium - placing emphasis not on a collection of objects, but on the questions generated by scientific evolution. Following this model, the Museum of Science and the Cosmos tries to exhibit the science that refines the senses and develops the imagination. Its main façade is considered as one of the most qualified examples of the neoclassical architecture of the islands, for which it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest , with the category of Monument, in 1983. In the surroundings of the Museum are some of the most emblematic spaces and buildings of the city Santa Cruz de Tenerife: the Church of the Conception, center of the founding nucleus of the city, whose first construction dates back to the year 1500; Calle de la Noria, one of the most traditional, lively and most charming promenades in the old urban area and, finally, as an example of modern architecture, on the banks of the Barranco de Santos, and right next to the Museum, the TEA ( Tenerife Space of the Arts). Activity 7: Parque Nacional del Teide Mount Teide is a volcano on Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. Its 3,718-metre (12,198 ft) summit is the highest point in Spain and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic. If measured from the ocean floor, it is at 7,500 m (24,600 ft) the highest volcano in the world base-to-peak outside of the Hawaiian Islands, and is described by UNESCO and NASA as Earth's third-tallest volcanic structure. Teide's elevation makes Tenerife the tenth highest island in the world. Teide is an active volcano: its most recent eruption occurred in 1909 from the El Chinyero vent on the northwestern Santiago rift. The United Nations Committee for Disaster Mitigation designated Teide a Decade Volcano because of its history of destructive eruptions and its proximity to several large towns, of which the closest are Garachico, Icod de los Vinos and Puerto de la Cruz. Teide, Pico Viejo and Montaña Blanca form the Central Volcanic Complex of Tenerife. The city is located on the coast, 17 km southwest of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The population is 25,140 (2010), and the area is 49.18 km².The town is noted by Catholics in Spain and Latin America as a place of veneration of the Virgin of Candelaria, the patron of the Canary Islands. The most prominent building is the Basilica of Candelaria, which includes the sculpture of the Virgin Mary (Virgin of Candelaria) and mural paintings. Also highlighted in the square, statues of the nine aboriginal kings of Tenerife. In the times of the Guanches, the region was part of the menceyato, or kingdom, of Güímar. A cave is situated around Candelaria. The famous Festival de la Canción de Candelaria is one of the most important festivities on the island. It celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2005. DE LA LUZ DE GUÍA DE ISORA (1738-2015) OCTAVIO RODRÍGUEZ DELGADO Cronista Oficial de Güímar y Candelaria [blog.octaviordelgado.es ] Guía de Isora 2015 Desde el punto de vista religioso, los vecinos establecidos en el actual término de Guía de Isora dependieron inicialmente de la parroquia de San Pedro de Daute (Garachico), de 1514 a 1533; luego de la de Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios de Buenavista del Norte, de 1533 a 1679; de la de San Fernando del Valle de Santiago, de 1679 a 1738; y a partir de 1738 de la ayuda de parroquia de Ntra. Sra. de la Luz de Guía, elevada a parroquia totalmente independiente a finales de ese mismo siglo. La jurisdicción de la parroquia de Ntra. Sra. de la Luz de Guía de Isora se ha visto reducida en el siglo XX, al sufrir varias segregaciones. Así, el 18 de noviembre de 1929 se creó la parroquia de San Juan Bautista de Chío, que comenzó a regir el 1 de enero de 1930, incluyendo a los núcleos de Chiguergue y Alcalá. El 15 de noviembre de 1943 fue creada la parroquia de Ntra. Sra. del Rosario de Tejina, que también incluía al pago de la Vera de Herque. Y el 14 de mayo de 1963 fue creada la parroquia de San Juan Bautista en la Playa de San Juan. No conocemos todos los capellanes que estuvieron encargados del culto de la ermita de Guía cuando ésta dependía de otras parroquias, pero sí los párrocos que han estado al frente de ella desde que se convirtió en ayuda de parroquia, gracias a los distintos libros sacramentales.

No obstante, de los nacidos en el siglo XIX sólo seis sobrevivieron hasta el siguiente: don Justo Campos Rodríguez, don Domingo Elías Estévez, don Trino Torres Hernández, Fray José Torres Hernández, don Domingo Pérez Cáceres y don Pedro Rodríguez Baute. Calle anexa a la Plaza de Santo Domingo o del Ayuntamiento, en la que nació el sacerdote don Pedro Rodríguez Baute. En este artículo vamos a recordar al último de ellos, el entrañable sacerdote don Pedro Rodríguez Baute, quien estudió en los Seminarios de La Laguna y Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. ORGANIZACIÓN 1.1.- La población oficial y cuantos otros datos de carácter socioeconómico contribuyan a la identificación de la entidad El municipio de Los Realejos tiene una población de 36.149 habitantes según datos INE a 1 de enero de 2016. El Municipio de Los Realejos situado en el Valle de La Orotava colinda con los términos municipales de La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, San Juan de la Rambla y La Guancha con una orografía ascendente desde la costa hasta los límites del Parque Nacional del Teide ocupando una superficie de 57,09 Km 2. Además, ha de considerarse como uno de los más privilegiados de la isla en cuanto a su riqueza natural, que se pone de manifiesto en el hecho de que casi el 50% de su suelo esté protegido por leyes ambientales a nivel nacional, regional y europeo. El núcleo principal está formado por tres zonas: Realejo Alto, San Agustín y Realejo Bajo, pero existen numerosas localidades y barrios , que son: Icod el Alto, Tigaiga, San Vicente, San Benito, La Cruz Santa, La Cartaya, La Grimona, La Carrera, El Toscal, La Higuerita, La Montañeta, La Zamora, El Jardín, Palo Blanco, La Ferruja, Las Llanadas. La característica común a todos ellos es la situación en los interfluvios de los barrancos. En cuanto a la estructura del tejido empresarial, debemos indicar que el sector primario es insignificativo , lo que representa un 0.36% del total de la actividad productiva.     ORFEBRERIA EN GUIA DE ISORA APORTACIONES AMERICANAS COSTANZA MORIN JIMENEZ INTRODUCCION No es nada extraño que los lugares alejados de los puntos neurálgicos de la vida insular sean aquellos que muestren unos contactos más relevantes con los dos países, Cuba y Venezuela, que han dejado una huella indeleble en el panorama canario. Así acontece con Guía de Isora, situada en el Sur- Oeste de Tenerife, cuya parroquia guarda piezas escultóricas y de orfebrería procedentes de aquellas tierras. Precisamente la lejanía es lo que ha mantenido en la sombra ese conjun- to artístico. Es conveniente insistir en que la parroquia cuya titular es Ntra. Sra. de la Luz de Guía, ha estado muy unida en su historia a Garachico, de manera que la advocación deriva del hecho de haberse aparecido la Virgen en estos lugares en 1670'. La aparición de Ntra. Sra. de Guía se conoció por una Sra. de la familia de Ponte, Marqueses de Quinta Roja y Condes del Pal- mar. La Virgen se apareció ante la citada Sra., un fraile, un capellán y un criado, cuando iban desde Garachico a Guía para mostrar sus propiedades. En una cueva encontraron a la Virgen ante los insistentes ladridos de un pe- rro que se hallaba con su pastor. En la choza del pastor la Sra. de Ponte hizo una capilla para la Virgen. Desde 1670 hasta 1856 se llevó en ~ornería~.Se- gún las notas del Manuscrito del Convento la Virgen se llevó excepcional- mente a Garachico a causa de la sequía en 1768 y 1769. Sin embargo, el cronista de Icod de los Vinos don Emeterio Gutiérrez Lópjpublicó en la Reuirta de Historia, correspondiente al año 1928, un cor- 1.
