Perth Hills Discovery Centre to Golden View Lookout Perth Hills Discovery Centre to Golden View Lookout 2 h to 4 h 3 1 h to 2 h 15 min 8.5 km ↑ 284 m Moderate track Return ↓ 284 m Starting from the Perth Hills Discovery Centre at the end of Allen Road, Mundaring, this walk leads to the Golden View Lookout and back via the Bibbulmun Track. The track winds through mixed jarrah and banksia forest, passing the historic Mundaring Weir, a concrete dam. For those interested in history, there are plaques throughout the area that discuss the weir's creation and pipeline. Picnicking at the Weir is popular with tourists and locals alike, and there are barbecue facilities, picnic tables and toilets available in the area. After following a short section of the Golden Pipeline that carries water from Mundaring Weir to the Goldfields near Kalgoorlie, the track crosses the dam wall, then ascends to the Golden View Lookout. The viewing platform provides panoramic views over Lake CY O'Connor, Mundaring Weir and the Helena River Valley. Interpretive signage provides information on the hydrology, landscape and heritage of Helena Valley. Keep a lookout for the yellow Waugal trail markers, which clearly show the way along the Bibbulmun Track. The first proposed site is Site 1in Water Corporation reserve 39644 (below Mundaring Weir, bounded by Mundaring Weir Road in the Heritage and Tourist Precinct, south of Helena River). DEC land, north of Site 1, is the second proposed site. It is part freehold property held by DEC and part of State Forest Number 7, located along the Mundaring Weir Road, near the Kookaburra Outdoor cinema. The Pine plantation, south east of the CALM land along Allen Road, is the third proposed site. It is next to the DEC airstrip north of Mundaring Weir. A service corridor along Allen Rd from the DEC site to the Pine Plantation also required surveying. O’Connor Site is the fourth proposed location, on the Mundaring Weir Roadand Firewood Road, north of the weir. This included an archaeological assessment of the service corridor along the existing pipeline route from O’Connor Site to the weir area.
