Featured Men's Singles Quarter-Finals 2017 US OPEN Flushing, New York, USA | August 28-September 10, 2017 Draw Size: S-128, D-64 | $50.4 million | Hard www.usopen.org DAY NINE MEDIA NOTES | Tuesday, September 5, 2017 FEATURED MEN’S SINGLES QUARTER-FINALS ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM [12] Pablo Carreno Busta (ESP) vs [29] Diego Schwartzman (ARG) First Meeting [17] Sam Querrey (USA) vs [28] Kevin Anderson (RSA) Querrey Leads 8-6 DAY NINE HIGHLIGHTS • Next week’s No. 1 American Sam Querrey bids to become the first homegrown US Open semi-finalist since Andy Roddick in 2006 when he meets good friend and occasional doubles partner Kevin Anderson on Tuesday night. Querrey reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2016 and semi-finals in 2017 to end the longest American droughts in Grand Slam history for those respective rounds. He is three wins from becoming the first American Grand Slam champion since Roddick at the 2003 US Open. The 6-foot-6 Querrey and 6-foot-8 Anderson are meeting in the tallest Grand Slam quarter-final, semi-final or final of the Open Era. Querrey is 8-6 against Anderson overall and 1-1 this season. The South African avenged a five-set Wimbledon loss at ATP Masters 1000 Montreal. • First-time US Open quarter-finalists Pablo Carreno Busta and Diego Schwartzman will meet during the day session. Carreno Busta enjoyed an unprecedented path to his second Grand Slam quarter-final (also 2017 Roland Garros). The No. 12 seed swept 12 sets from four qualifiers in the first four rounds, becoming the first player in the Open Era to face four qualifiers at a Grand Slam. Schwartzman has made history of his own. The 5-foot-7 Argentine is the shortest Grand Slam quarter-finalist since fellow 5-foot-7 South American Jaime Yzaga at the 1994 US Open. With a win over Carreno Busta, the 29th-seeded Schwartzman would become the shortest Grand Slam semi-finalist since 5-foot-6 Harold Solomon at 1980 Roland Garros and US Open semi-finalist since Solomon in 1977. • Mardy Fish Named Us Davis Cup Captain
MARDY FISH NAMED U.S. DAVIS CUP CAPTAIN WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., January 9, 2019 – The USTA today announced that former world No. 7 and Davis Cup veteran Mardy Fish has been named the new captain of the U.S. Davis Cup Team. He succeeds Jim Courier to become the 41 st captain in the team’s 120-year history and will make his debut at the newly transformed Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals November 18-24 in Madrid, Spain. “Ever since I started playing professionally and started understanding what the Davis Cup was and how special it was, even as a player, I wanted to be the Davis Cup Captain,” Fish said. “I just thought that position was so special – leading the guys and leading the team, building relationships and the team aspect around it. I’m a team-sport athlete stuck in an individual sport, and I love the team aspect of Davis Cup. To even be considered, let alone named the Captain, is incredibly humbling.” In this new era of Davis Cup, the role of Captain will be expanded, with the position working more closely with USTA Player Development throughout the year, as well as traveling to multiple tournaments and camps to support American players, serving as a mentor for American pros and juniors. He will also ensure the U.S. Davis Cup team remains a strong platform to grow the game through the USTA’s Net Generation youth initiative. “Mardy Fish embodies all of the qualities of a successful Davis Cup Captain and will be an invaluable asset to Team USA,” said USTA Chairman of the Board and President Patrick Galbraith.

The Argentine is 5-16 against Federer with all five wins on hard courts, none more meaningful than when he rallied from a set-and-a-break down to deny Federer a sixth straight US Open title. Del Potro can prevent history from being made again as Federer and Rafael Nadal are one win from meeting for the first time at the US Open. The Swiss and Spaniard have been this close six times now, including in 2009, when del Potro defeated Nadal 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the semi-finals before beating Federer in the final. • Nadal’s quarter-final opponent on Wednesday is #NextGenATP player Andrey Rublev. The 19-year-old Russian is the youngest US Open quarter-finalist since Andy Roddick in 2001. Rublev would be the youngest semi-finalist at the US Open since Lleyton Hewitt in 2000 and at any Grand Slam event since Nadal at 2005 Roland Garros. A teenager has never defeated a World No.

  • Tennis Glory Ever Could
A CHAMPION’S MIND For my wife, Bridgette, and boys, Christian and Ryan: you have fulfilled me in a way that no number of Grand Slam titles or tennis glory ever could Introduction Chapter 1 1971–1986 The Tennis Kid Chapter 2 1986–1990 A Fairy Tale in New York Chapter 3 1990–1991 That Ton of Bricks Chapter 4 1992 My Conversation with Commitment Chapter 5 1993–1994 Grace Under Fire Chapter 6 1994–1995 The Floodgates of Glory Chapter 7 1996 My Warrior Moment Chapter 8 1997–1998 Wimbledon Is Forever Chapter 9 1999–2001 Catching Roy Chapter 10 2001–2002 One for Good Measure Epilogue Appendix About My Rivals Acknowledgments / Index Copyright A few years ago, the idea of writing a book about my life and times in tennis would have seemed as foreign to me as it might have been surprising to you. For starters, I realized that what I did in tennis probably would be a point of interest and curiosity to my family.
