Autism is a medical condition with behavioral symptoms.

Children on the autism spectrum have been shown in many studies to have rampant nutritional deficiencies, food & mold allergies, gastrointestinal issues, toxic heavy metal burdens, issues with leaky gut syndrome and oxidative stress (inflammation) in almost every organ system.

An informative website to learn more about these issues is: http://restoringbalanceautism.squarespace.com/restoringbalanceautism

My message to parents is to do everything possible to investigate the underlying causes of the insidious illness we call autism. Treatment is available and restoring your child’s health is imperative in ensuring their future.

Coupled with a biomedical treatment protocol guided by a trained doctor, is a good quality ABA program that focuses on addressing your child’s specific skills deficits and autism symptoms. For some children the goal will be recovery and for others functionality and independence. There is simply nothing to accept about that word ‘autism’. Its never too late to begin the right treatments.

The autism road is long and bumpy but certainly not impossible. So many parents live in fear. The sooner your child receives ABA and an expert biomedical treatment protocol the sooner they will begin the ascent to healing.

Autism is treatable and recovery possible! Keep fighting!!

BOOK YOUR SPOT

The Star Academy is pleased to announce that our Clinical Director, Jenna White, is now a certified -O practitioner!

RAVE-O is an evidence-based literacy intervention curriculum which empowers students to read text deeply to build new knowledge, develop new ideas, and reach new levels of reading achievement.

RAVE-O accelerates learning, prevents and closes the reading achievement gap, improves student performance across key literacy domains. It also promotes fluency and comprehension, and progress is monitored through ongoing, informal assessments.

RAVE-O explicitly connects every aspect of a word as it is encountered:

Phonemes (the perceptually distinct units of sound in a specified language that distinguish one word from another) Meanings Morphemes (the smallest grammatical units in language) Grammatical functions Spelling patterns

Using interactive, multisensory activities that enhance students’ abilities to decode, read fluently, comprehend, and analyse what they read builds confidence and motivates students towards their reading goals.

While RAVE-O can benefit every child, it is particularly useful for children who are “at-risk” for literacy difficulties, including children with dyslexia. We can’t wait to see how it benefits some of our Stars!

The importance and development of play

One of the best ways for a young child to learn is through play. Children can learn about science, math, engineering, language, social skills and much more through play. Play provides children with an opportunity to practice problem-solving, self-advocacy, decision-making, groupwork, sharing, and conflict-resolution skills.

Methyl B12 Injections

B12 (cobalamin) is a vitamin “family” with five unique family members that each do different things. Out of the B12 family, only methyl-B12 has the ability to activate the methionine/homocysteine biochemical pathway directly which results in more “fuel” to the brain.

B12 works with folic acid to make all the cells in the body. It plays a key role in methylation. Methylation makes ALL of the cells in our body. It is the process of adding genetic material to cells. After conception, the cells in the womb that will later become the fetus are DEMETHYLATED. The process of development depends on methylation.

Cerebral Folate Deficiency in Autism Spectrum Disorders

Folic acid (vitamin B9, also known as folate) is a water-soluble B vitamin that is essential for numerous physiological systems of the body. Folate derives its name from the Latin word folium, which means leaf, to signify that the main natural source of this vitamin is from leafy vegetables. However, in the modern western diet, the main source of folate is from folate-fortified foods. Folic acid is the inactive, oxidized form of the folate compounds. The main active form of folate in the body is 5- methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). Folic acid is converted to dihydrofolate and then to tetrahydrofolate (THF) by the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. This reaction, which requires niacin (vitamin B3), can be inhibited by certain medications. 5-MTHF is also converted to THF by the enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). 5-MTHF is then converted back to THF through a cobalamin (vitamin B12) dependent enzyme called methionine synthase, a process that recycles methionine from homocysteine.
