Baptisms: Celebrated on the first Sunday of the month at 12:30 or 3:00pm. Parents should call the rectory at least four weeks in advance, and must attend instructions, which are held on the third Thursday of the month. Church Law requires that only Catholics in good standing are eligible to be Godparents. No Baptisms will be scheduled during Lent.

Anointing of the Sick: We offer this sacrament to those who are seriously ill, at home or in the hospital. We urge you to contact the office before someone goes to the hospital for an operation. (A priest may not be available later)

Ministry of the Sick: Holy Communion will be brought to the sick, upon request. The bedridden or chronically ill can be placed on the “Eucharistic Ministers” visitation schedule.

Wedding: Engaged couples must make arrangements in person, at the office at least six months in advance.

Parish Membership: We welcome all new members to our parish. Please register at the office, by phone or in person. Registration forms are available at the entrances to the Churches. Also, please notify the office if your address has changed or if you would like to be added to the weekly envelope system.

Margaret Matthews from St. Patrick’s Thrift Shop is seeking donations of housewares, gently used clothing & anything of interest to replenish our shrinking inventory. As always, we appreciate all the donations we receive & the generosity of our supporters.

On behalf of the veterans and staff at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System, Montrose Campus, we extend our sincere appreciation to you for your donation of suits received on Thursday, January 19, 2017. We thank you for remembering our veterans.

This year World Day of Prayer will be held at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church on Friday, March 3rd at 12:00 noon. They are located at 648 Harrison Avenue, Peekskill, NY. If you have any questions, call 914-737-6354.

Ash Wednesday is March 1, 2017. Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are days of Fast & Abstinence. Fridays in Lent are days of Abstinence. Fasting requires that only one full meal be taken per day by those between the age of 18 & 59. Two other small means may be taken during day to maintain physical strength but these two meals should not equal a full meal. Abstinence prohibits those ages 14 & older from eating meat on a particular day.

Lent starts with a curious symbol that seems rather morbid. Ashes: the sign of our mortality. Contemplate giving something up this Lent. Gain something wonderful in return: a revitalized you. Pray to God to bless my fast today and teach me how to let go. “Go into your inner room, close your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.” Matthew 6:6. Say to Jesus, change starts with two words: “I can.” With your help, I will. Amen.

The sick are comforted just knowing that we pray for them. Please remember these members of our Parish Family, who are ill, in your prayers: Mickey Foster, Beverly Lewis, Ray Mackey, Aidan McElgunn, Sheila Dahlke Moore, John Mecca, Richard Curinga, Susan Rose, Michael Boddie, John Boddie, James Boddie, Kathy Farrey, Art Farrey Sr., Ed Lent, Margaret Hesselgrave, Colin Lent, Eddie Lent, Sean Flaherty, Joao Manino Vaz, Marilu Selicco, Dan Keon, Joseph M. Price and Robin Pasquale who are sick.

EIGHT SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Isaiah 49: 14-15 The city of Zion laments that God has forsaken it. God replies that a mother would not forget her baby. Yet even if she did forget, “I will never forget you.” Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 4:1-5 Paul describes himself as a servant of Christ. He explains that the opinions of other people are unimportant to him. God is the only one worthy to judge us. When God returns, he will praise those who deserve it. Gospel: Matthew 6:24-34 Jesus warns the people not to waste their time worrying about material things. He says that God provides for the birds in the sky. “Are you not more important than they?” Jesus asked. We should not worry about food and clothes. Instead we should act as God wants us to, then he will help provide for us.
