Volume 10 No 5 October. 8, 1981 THE WAY UNITED WAY APPEAL - 1981

As you may already have noticed, the annual United Way Appeal is currently underway. Each year we are asked to dig just a little deeper into our pockets to meet the projected goal, and each year . it becomes increasingly vital that we meet that challenge.

This year, of course, is no different. The non-profit agencies that are supported by the United Way, find it more difficult each year to provide the same services that were previously offered. They are increasingly being asked to do more with less - more assistance and bigger caseloads, but less funds and fewer people. Yet the work they do is so important to so many people.

This year Sister Esther Whalen is chairperson of the United Way Appeal on campus. The goal set for Salve Regina is $5,602.18, up 11 percent from last year's figure of $5,038.00.

Please try to find a way this year to give as generously as you have in the past. In the last four years individual participation has been more than 85 percent. This is a remarkable figure - something to be proud of, and an ambitious goal to surpass as well.

God bless you! !
