The National Oval Track Racing Association (NOTRA) is proud to have established a program for perpetual trophies for the Other Breed National Race Meet. These trophies will be awarded to the High Score Racer in each breed at the Nationals each year. Funding for the trophies is being provided in part by NOTRA and in part by generous donors, and we intend to have a trophy for each breed within a few years. The Meet Winner in each breed in 2016 will receive a certifi- cate commemorating the win, and in many breeds the actual trophies are available.

These trophies honor the hounds who were the NOTRA pioneers for their breeds and they are an impressive lot. Please join the NOTRA Board in congratu- lating the owners of these superior racing hounds. These are their stories as related by their proud owners.

AFGHAN HOUND Barnei Lu-Kon SORC GRC FChX Owner: Tanya Muise My name is Barnei. I came to Canada from the Czech Republic, with the best person, Tanya. When I first saw her I knew she was for me. Once here she would take me all over to run for the bunny. I really had fun. Sometimes there were lots of others like me and sometimes there were just a few of us. But we always had fun. Now when we are out walking, people stop to talk. And I think she is very proud of the bunny racing I have done. I hear her tell people that I am a Supreme Champion. I do not really know what this means but I know I get to chase the bunny, and that is the best thing in the world.

BASENJI Am/Can/Int’l(UCI) Ch Anya’s Karosel Ceasefire CanFCh SORC Breeders: Sandra Anderson/DJ Lubbe Owner: Sandra Anderson (NW Washington State) Pepper was the first female Basenji ORC and the first SORC in the breed. She is 1/8th “New -Af rican” import. She is now retired from competing in the Pacific NW. She had been for many years and began racing as soon as the breed was accepted into NOTRA. She was the #1 NOTRA Basenji for 2000, 2001, 2002. Her half brother Token (Can/Int’l(UCI) Ch Anya’s Bi- Gnomial, FCh, CanFChX, SORC) acquired that status in 2003 and 2004. Pepper-what a wonder- ful and genuinely affectionate ambassador of our breed. BORZOI FC Phoenixx Intent Fezzik SORC GRC FCh LCM CGC Breeders: Pete and Jane Schreiber / Owners: Susan and Samuel Banks Fezzik was born in January of 1990. Racing for the “Minor Breeds” (as they were called back then) in NOTRA had just started on the East Coast, and was still using the old point system, which meant it took a lot longer to finish a on a minor breed. Fezzik was the first non-Whippet to earn the ORC. She earned her title in 1991, after less than one year of racing, and in her career she earned the Supreme Oval Racing Championship as well. She was the top NOTRA Borzoi in 1991 and 1992, then had to relinquish the title to my other superstar Borzoi, K’Lar. She excelled at many performance venues, earning her AKC Field Championship in three straight events with five-point majors and finishing her ASFA Field Championship at the Borzoi Bonanza taking top honors there from the open class. She went on to earn her ASFA Lure Courser of Merit, and LGRA title, Gazehound Racing Champion, making her way into the top ten in some of these. Besides being a good performer, Fezzik was very outgoing and playful for a Borzoi, almost being an embarrassment to a breed with an aloof and dignified personality. Fezzik came to our home as a very young puppy, when my son was one year old, so I spent many hours keeping them both out of trouble as they grew up. She was a wonderful companion with a sense of humor, patience and a great grin.

GREYHOUND FC Point Breeze Pacific Pride SORC FCh CC CM Breeder/Owners: Jane and Bob Bulman Pride was born 10 May 1992, one in a litter of nine. Bob and I picked our favorite pup and priced that one $100 more than the rest. Of course the buyers always picked the one we wanted to keep, which ended up with us being stuck with this little non-descript, unassertive black male. He was such a pleasure to own, never doing anything wrong. He became the first SORC greyhound, always running to stay out of trouble, hugging the rail. He also became an ASFA and AKC lure coursing champion. Watching him would make your heart skip a beat when he was chasing the jackrabbit in central California. He filled us with such pride, his name seemed perfect for him. He easily earned the open field titles Coursing Champion and Courser of Merit, where he excelled at the greyhound breed hunts. I am so happy the Board chose to give him the honor of having this trophy named in honor of him.

IBIZAN HOUND FC Elidas Wirtu Carbon Copy LCM3 CC CM SORC SGRC Breeders: Kathy Kelly and Shellie Juden / Owner: Kathy Kelly Ditto was a remarkable athlete who loved everyone and everything. She could leap tall fences in a single bound—and did so as a youngster, clearing my 8-foot fences with ease to go the school with the kids every day. Because she came home before me everyday, it wasn’t until she was a year old that I discovered that she attended the elementary school behind us on a daily basis, and had done so since she was 3 months old. As remarkable as her ability was to clear the fence with ease, it was overshadowed by her incredible temperament: not a single child or parent ever complained about the large, energetic puppy that went to class with their children, played with them during recess, and shared their lunches. As Ditto grew, so did the fences, until 10-foot plus hot wire convinced Ditto to drop out of school. Even though sister Speck passed Ditto in the lifetime standings, when Ditto was in her prime, no one could touch her. She didn’t just win – she annihilated the competition. She would stumble out of the box, then fly past the others before the first turn, and frequently win by 10 to 20 lengths. Only when she suffered through false pregnancies could she be beaten. Ditto competed in LGRA, lure coursing, open field, and occasionally in the show ring. During her career she was ranked top Ibizan Hound at least once in every venue in which she competed except the show ring.

IRISH WOLFHOUND Stoneybrook Brynmair Clare LCM6 CD ORC GRC NA VFCh TT CGC VCX Breeders: Judith & Lynn Simon, MD / Owners: Michael Ferris & Karen Frederick Clare was truly a phenomenal Irish Wolfhound and a joy to live with. She ran with such enthusiasm and coursed/raced well into her eighth year of life. She was able to earn her ORC title even though the participation of Irish Wolfhounds was low and the number of available meets even lower. It took her years to amass those twelve points but she loved every program. She earned 14.5 NORC points and is the #1 lifetime IW in NOTRA. Clare was a great ambassador of the breed and excelled in just about every venue.

ITALIAN GREYHOUND FC Elmar’s Blue Bayou FCC ORC GRC LCM2 VLCM Breeder/Owners: Earl and Kathy McNamee Bill was the third IG registered with NOTRA, #IG-03. He was NOTRA IG National Champion for 1999, the first year IGs were eligible to run and again in 2001. He missed being a number of meets in 2000 due to the health problems of his chauffeur Earl. Bill was the first IG to earn an ORC. He earned 24 National points before the up and coming youngsters started to be able to beat him. He is still participating at 10 years old in 2007 and is currently the #3 lifetime NOTRA IG. He finished in the top three IGs every year for the first 5 years he ran and was ranked in the All Breed Top 20 at Number 12 for 1999 and Number 16 for 2001. Bill’s ORC title helped make him the first IG titled in all four Racing/Coursing venues; NOTRA, LGRA, ASFA and AKC.

PHARAOH HOUND DC K’Azar Eyeam Air Amié SC FCh SORC GRC Owners: Rebecca Stephens, Margaret Luck, and Kay Durr Air Amié was Rebecca’s and Margie’s first pharaoh hound. Having heard of the breed’s speed, Rebecca named her Air Amié, or in French, Friend of the Wind. As a young pup, Air Amié and her littermates were introduced to the excitement of the ‘white plastic bag’ and until Air Amié learned to cheat on the lure coursing field, she was a soaring courser and easily and quickly finished her AKC and ASFA coursing championships. The first time she hit the oval track, in Celina, it was love at first sight! There is just something about running in circles that motivated her to demonstrate her athleticism at a new level, as well as her intelligence – her cut-to-the-rail and come-from-behind strategies have a way of leaving the audience grinning and shaking their heads. In February, 2003, Air Amié became the first pharaoh hound in history to earn the title of Supreme Oval Racing Champion. Air Amié is, most of all, a genuine champion in every way to her family of humans and dogs. In June 2004, Air Amié kicked it up a notch, giving birth to a litter of gorgeous little red dawgs, two of whom(ArmaniandKisamié)havenowbecomepermanentmembersofAirAmié’shousehold. We are extremely honored to have the NOTRA National Perpetual Trophy for pharaoh hounds named after our athletic, beautiful girl, and it will be a wonderful pleasure to have it presented to the future winners of this exciting event!

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK U-CD UGRCH DC Denali’s Jomo Wa Kirinyaga CD MC LCM3 SGRC2 SORC SRM VC Owner: Debbie Bell When Jomie arrived at eight weeks old, little did I know that I had brought home such an incredible . Before the age of two he became the second AKC Dual Champion in the breed. He later earned the first ASFA LCM2 and AKC MC titles in addition to many other awards and titles. Our first race meet was October 15, 1995. By 1996, Jomie was the first in the breed toearn the LGRA GRC. He finished an LCM3 while becoming the first RR to earn the SGRC - the second SGRC to be awarded in LGRA. In 1997, RRs were first eligible to compete provisionally in NOTRA. In oval racing, Jomie found an event where he excelled, becoming the first ORC Ridgeback that same year. An LCM4 went unfinished with over 240 points and many first placements to finish thefirst SGRC2 in LGRA and the first RR SORC. Jomie continued to run successfully through 2003 at 11 years old, narrowly missing the elusive SORC2. He is now enjoying retirement and the life of a gentleman hound.

SALUKI DC Solari Antara Full O’Mischief LCM SC LCX MC RN SGRC3 SORC CGC Owners: Carol Fisher and Garry & Judith Newton Missy finished her breed championship at 13 months and said “Let me at the bunnies, that’s what I really want to do.” She got her AKC Field Championship in early October 2001 by going BOB both days at the AKC National Lure Championship Trials in Ohio and became a Dual Champion. She attained her ASFA Field Championship after winning the Region 8 and Region 9 saluki BOB in late October 2001. In June 2002 she won the AKC lure trial at the Saluki National in Lexington, Kentucky. We next tried racing and Missy has become the first SORC SGRC DC titled saluki in history. DC Windshift Brier Rose VC FCh SGRC2 SORC Owner: Terri Campbell

Brier finished her AKC conformation championship, her AKC field championship, became an Oval Racing Champion and Large Gazehound Racing Champion in 1997 at the age of two years. In 1998, she continued to participate in field events, earning her ASFA Field Championship as well as both the “S” titles available to racers, the Superior Gazehound Racing Championship and the Supreme Oval Racing Championship. She was the first hound of any breed to earn both titles. In 1998, Brier was the top scoring hound of all breeds participating in both LGRA and NOTRA. She received both the K’Lar Trophy from LGRA and the Fairchild Perpetual Trophy for excellence in racing. Brier finished the racing season in 1999 as NOTRA National Champion (SD) for the fourth consecutive year, earning the Fairchild Perpetual Trophy for a second year. In 2001, she earned the SGRC2 from LGRA.

SLOUGHI Amir Shi’Rayan FCC SOR SORC GRC Breeder/Owners: Dominique Crapon de Caprona and Bernd Fritzsch A puppy of the first litter born in 1993 at Shi’Rayân, Amir became the first SORC. He was tied with his brother Aswad, as first NOTRA National Champion for the breed in 1995 and was the 1995 winner of The Nubia Memorial Cup, a perpetual trophy presented annually by the Sloughi Fanciers Association of America to the Sloughi dog or bitch which has most shown itself to excel in the field during a given year. He dominated the oval racing Sloughis by remaining the highest pointed Sloughi in NOTRA from 1995 to 2001. He also won the first ever LGRA race meet, and his talent in coursing contributed to the Sloughi’s recognition by ASFA, in spite of his insatiable love of adventure. Thanks for all the hard work and planning that the club members and organizers have put into this weekend’s festivities. Your participation and committment to NOTRA racing is what makes the organization a success!

Safe racing and best of luck to all the hounds running in this weekend’s race meet!

Thanks for attending.... Tracy Rudzitis & Jean Pennie
