A member of the North Lake Tahoe community for the past [insert number] years, I can attest to popularity of the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. It isn’t just the centerpiece of the community; it is where many local residents and regional visitors spend time recreating during all seasons. It provides access to an incredible stretch of beach that is unmatched at the lake, and has become one of the most popular places to experience Lake Tahoe during all times of year. The parking associated with the Kings Beach State Recreation Area provides access not only to the beach and park, but also to the North Tahoe Event Center, an economic driver in the community. The Event Center is utilized year‐round for meetings, community and private events, fitness classes, and much more, both by members of our community and visitors. Although California State Parks and the California Tahoe Conservancy have indicated they plan to keep the area open year‐round, I am concerned about the level of service that will be provided, and that it will not match what has been offered by the North Tahoe Public Utility District for the past 36 years. I am in support of the bill Senator Gaines has put forward (SB832) which would deed Kings Beach State Recreation Area to the North Tahoe Public Utility District to operate, maintain and improve for public recreation purposes. I am also in support of the NTPUD’s desire to re‐enter management agreement negotiations with the State should California State Parks and the California Tahoe Conservancy not be able to fulfill their commitment with regard to the year‐round management and operations of KBSRA. Sincerely, .
