Another Pandemic that is Ravaging our Kids by Hal S. EiSEnbErg

As school systems across the country shuttered their doors a year ago, many families and students were left wondering: What next? The buildings that housed endless possibilities through learning were whittled down to just four walls and a roof. Educational desperation struck the hearts of parents across the globe, for class- rooms made a drastic move to the family kitchen table, small bedrooms, and living rooms filled with poignant family memories that existed somewhere in the distant past. Digital screens replaced physi- cal windows of opportunities that existed in the face-to-face interactions that became mere appari- tions in the wake of COVID-19. In our evolving state of wellness through learning, having a spotty wi-fi connection had become a plague to students’ educational health. Our nation’s education system had become a cha- otic sense of survival. Now, a year later, students are either still in Long Distance learning, a hybrid model (Two days at school, two days home) or just now starting full in-person schooling. And where has that left our kids? Mental health issues are at an alarming rate of increase among youth – particularly in the areas of anxiety and depression. Are we truly surprised?
