An Open Letter to Friends Friends, We would like to extend our most heartfelt appreciation to the Comox and 19 Wing communities for all the love and support you gave us follow- ing Stocky’s accident last December. We have been truly humbled by the generosity of so many of you who took the time to visit us, brought us meals, and ensured we had every- thing we needed. Although there are too many people to name, we would like to give a very special thank you to HCol Jeff Stib- bard and his wife Brenda. Their self- less generosity was the pillar of sup- port that got us through the worst of the accident. They will always have a special place in our hearts. We are very grateful to live in a com- munity full of so many compassion- ate, caring folks. Thank you all for your love and support. God bless. Sincerely, ...from The Edwards Stocky and Toni Edwards

Register now for the Comox Valley Commuter Challenge!

Now is a great time to think about how you’re going to commute to work this spring and summer! The Commuter Challenge - June 3 to 9 - encourages Canadian workplaces and their employees to leave the car at home and cycle, walk, bus, carpool or telecom- mute. Reducing ‘drive-alone’ trips in this way has many benefits, including less traffic congestion, reduced GHG emissions, and healthier citizens. Not to mention saving money as gas prices seem to keep going up! Register before March 31 at commuterchallenge.ca for a chance at early-bird prizes! This prize draw is just between Comox Valley businesses, and will be valued at $25, with more local prizes are to come. Wing Transport (WTn) gathered on March 21 to witness the presentation of an unusual tribute to the CO of 19 MSS, LCol Steve Gillis (above right with Cpl Thibeault). Capt Mallory Whitmell of 19 Wing Mission Support Squadron presided over the ceremony of the installation of a memento from the 19 Wing HCol visit and heavy equipment obstacle course. “WTn was tasked to host an obstacle course for the HCol visit, but before the event even began, LCol Gillis could not restrain himself. He jumped in the loader to squeeze in a few minutes of play - relocating a boulder several times.” The heavy equipment obstacle course was a huge success. The boulder was retrieved from the course, and with assistance from Maj Jamie Boone, 191 CES, and RP Ops a plaque was engraved and installed. “There was great enthusiasm from all ranks in WTn – and lots of great ideas planning this com- memorative event,” laughed Capt Whitmell. “This, alone, has been great for morale.” “This is our innovative tribute to an innovative leader. WTn presents to you… your CO’s Rock.” OPI of the heavy equipment obstacle course Cpl Cynthia Thibeault cut the ribbon along with LCol Gillis to inaugurate the installation of a most ordinary boulder – but most innovative tribute.
