00’00’’ Jingle Break

00’03’’ Feature: FR 3.5, road to Formula 1

Ever since its creation, Renault Sport Technologies has striven to uncover new talents and showcase young drivers. Nowadays, Renault single- seaters are inescapable all the way through to F1.

00’18’’ ITW Patrice RATTI Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director French language

“I do believe we propose a unique system, which is extremely efficient from Formula Renault 2.0 to 3.5 in terms of development for young drivers. Actually, 60% of the current F1 drivers came from our series. It is a real reward for us, that is the way we want our championships to be positioned, and we will keep pushing that way.”

00’35’’ The Formula Renault 3.5, as the World Series by Renault’s blue riband, is just one step below the pinnacle of motorsport.

00’46’’ ITW Patrice RATTI Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director French language

“The Formula Renault 3.5 is a really good package, not that far from a Formula One car, as it is just seven or eight seconds slower than the best F1. It offers a very good preparation to the drivers. As we have seen during the different F1 Rookies Test, our boys are able to show immediately a very strong pace.”

01’04’’ The world series by Renault are made to offer to the drivers a system closed to the way F1 operates.

01’14’’ ITW Patrice RATTI Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director French language

“We choose F1 standards circuits, just because we want our drivers to prepare themselves the perfect way. We also invite them to visit Red Bull Racing, because it is important to see how a Formula One team is organized. It is all about being aware of all the different F1 aspects.”

01’38’’ An another key factor is linked with the financial aspect of the competition, as Renault maintains the budgets under a reasonable cap.

01’48’’ ITW Patrice RATTI Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director French language

“We do have a huge experience of those young drivers series. One of the main issues is the right balance between the performances and the cost. We put all our efforts to maintain the budget needing on a reasonable level. Of course, motorsport is expensive. Nevertheless, we are much cheaper compare to some other championships. Overall, from the end of their go-kart experience to the F1 grid, we propose the most efficient program.”

02’14’’ More than that, prize money is also a real issue in the world series by Renault.

02’24’’ ITW Patrice RATTI Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director French language

“Renault Sport Technologies gives a 500.000 euros award to the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 winner. It’s 2/3 of the necessary budget to make it to Formula Renault 3.5”

02’35’’ Thanks to a huge assistance in the tribunes, and a strong media coverage, Formula Renault3.5 is a real promotion tool for young talents.

02’45’’ ITW Patrice RATTI Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director French language

“With around 500.000 spectators during the season and 80 millions viewers on TV, we benefit a very good media exposure. It is very important for Renault, but also a key factor for young drivers as they need to promote themselves. Media coverage is crucial for them, for the teams and for the sponsors.”

03’15’’ Overall, the Formula Renault 3.5 Series may be considered as the best single-seater finishing school in the Formula One business…
