Hello and welcome to GeekGirlCon 2017! It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this program guide with you. GeekGirlCon is in our seventh year, and what a year it’s been! We continue to grow both in size and experience, and with growth also comes more learning. We’ve hired our first employee, increased community outreach, and implemented many foundational improvements to make our organization more sustainable year a$er year. GeekGirlCon is still volunteered-powered, with 50+ year-round volunteers, and 180+ Agents and Special Agents who each work hard to make our convention a joyful, fun, safe, and inclusive experience. GeekGirlCon will continue to be a home for you: all the children who want to grow up to be superheroes, Jedi, chemists, and engineers; people of all races and hues who want to see greater and fair representation in pop culture as integral and complex characters; people of all genders who want to be loved and respected for their gender expression; and all the parents who want their children to grow up to be compassionate and courageous adults. We see you. We’re commi%ed to fostering your community—where you will feel loved, included, and celebrated—here at GeekGirlCon. We’re commi%ed to creating a place where you will join like-minded folks to engage in meaningful discussions to fight injustice and inequality, using the imaginative ideas from our fandoms and STEM. We invite you to create solutions that you can take home with you a$er the last hours of GeekGirlCon 2017. Thank you for being a part of GeekGirlCon 2017.

In solidarity, I-Wei Feng President, GeekGirlCon Board of Directors

WE EXIST IN THE IN-BETWEEN, WHERE INGENUITY STRETCHES POSSIBILITY AND TRANSFORMATION IS BORN. WE CODE, CONCOCT, CREATE, AND COSP$Y. THE IMAGINATION IS OUR ONLY LIMIT AND OURS IS LIMITLESS.

WE ARE GIRLS. AND WE ARE WOMEN, AND FEMMES, AND NON-BINARY/ GENDER NON-CONFORMING INDIVIDUALS, AND WE ARE ALLIES. OUR PERSONALITIES ARE AS DIVERSE AS OUR BACKGROUNDS AND BODIES. WE ARE MANY VOICES AND COUNTLESS TALES. WE ARE DIVERSITY AND WE DEFY EXPECTATIONS.

WE ARE A COMMUNITY. WE BREAK BARRIERS AND DEMOCRATIZE OPPORTUNITY. WE PROVIDE SAFE SPACES TO DO WHAT WE LOVE: LEARN, CONNECT, INVENT, AND CHALLENGE. WE ARE HERE TO FEARLESSLY AND FIERCELY CELEBRATE ONE ANOTHER.

WELCOME TO GEEKGIRLCON 2017.
