Q9 If there are any comments you would like to make about the infrastructure and facilities of the Parish please use this space:

Answered: 44 Skipped: 79

25 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

# RESPONSES DATE 1 It is unfortunate the village has so many different parts and it can be difficult to communicate 4/7/2020 2:28 PM with all the different parts, especially for older peole

2 Average speed camera would reduce the speeding on Cleat Hill The lack of pavement on 4/7/2020 2:13 PM Cleat Hill and other roads mean one can not use scooter so one is isolated

3 Broadband speed needs improving paths up Cleat Hill needs improving 4/7/2020 1:47 PM

4 The speed of cars are bad 4/7/2020 1:31 PM

5 Regular enforcement of speed restrictions - especially along Bedford Raod 4/7/2020 11:22 AM

6 1. re ease of walking - footpaths are fairly good and there is an excellent network, but some 4/7/2020 10:34 AM are not reinstated after ploughing. When local fields were in countryside stewardship the extra permissive paths were a fantastic resource. Pavements - some very busy roads lack pavements eg Oldways Rd and Bedford Rd - too dangerous to walk. But installing paths would urbanise the lanes - need to design carefully and preferably set into the fields. 2. I really enjoy the absence of lighting - Ravensden is a village and it should be dark. 3. Shops - although only 1 shop at crossroads, Ravensden benefits from post office and farmshop in , also Morgan Pell meat stall at farm gate on a Friday evening

7 Walking on Oldways Road could be much improved We do not currently use the bus service 4/6/2020 4:26 PM but might have to in future years! There is quite serious traffic congestion caused by the expanded Ravensden (lower) School. If they were to expand further they should be made to make alternative arrangements for parents dropping their children off

8 As I am 96yrs this is not really of any interest to me. I wish you well in your plans hoping 4/6/2020 4:20 PM those it concerns will co-operate

9 More pre school playgroup provision is needed A path linking the end of Ravensden to Cleat 4/6/2020 4:10 PM Hill would be advantageous - at the moment I either have to use a car to drive to Mowsbury Park with my granddaughter or walk on a busy road with her in a pushchair, quite dangerous - many people would benefit from a pavement

10 More cycle paths would help road safety as Church Hill and Oldways Road are dangerous 4/2/2020 7:53 PM for cyclists.

11 There is a distinct lack of safe walkways between amenities and parish focal points ie 4/2/2020 6:24 PM between pub / church & shop - makes it unsafe for children and adults alike. The peacefulness of the village is a key factor in making the character of the parish. A lack of play space is apparent ie sports pitch for adults / playground for under 12's

12 HGV's servicing local businesses based on farms use narrow village roads. This causes 3/31/2020 5:02 PM traffic disruption, noise and pollution

13 Most of the facilities we use are not in the parish 3/31/2020 4:16 PM

14 even though its a rural area, there should be more footpats to connect the 2 parts of 3/30/2020 5:06 PM Ravensden together and some other public service

15 1. Mobile phone signal needs improvement 2. Need to improve linkages between different 3/30/2020 4:39 PM parts of the parish (footpaths, cycleways, buses)

16 Unaware of any daytime classes / groups for older people Lack of walkways makes it very 3/30/2020 4:24 PM unsafe on most roads for ability to walk anywhere

17 Road safety is poor, Road management is also poor. Mr road (butler st) is a 40mph (cars do 3/30/2020 4:16 PM 60+) and really this road should be 30mph. Too many children on this road and little safety!

18 Would be nice to have access to local allotments 3/30/2020 10:25 AM

19 The current issue of the East-West Rail has a significant affect on future developments 3/27/2020 6:59 PM within the Parish and where facilities can be improved. Rural retirement housing and bungalows would be beneficial. Improved transport links via an improved bus service is required to access leisure, shopping, rail and town centre if we are to be serious about the enviroment and reduce car usage.

20 A footpath down church hill through to Renhold and upto Ravensden crossroads would 3/27/2020 5:52 PM make walking in those areas safe.

21 A pedestrian footpath linking the separate areas of the parish - in particular the Cleat hill 3/27/2020 5:34 PM area and the crossroads (separated by the B660) would be good for the community and help support local business. Could a paved path, set away from the road at the far side of the grass verge alongside the B660 be considered.

22 The fragmented nature of the village probably makes impossible the achievement of 3/27/2020 11:37 AM

26 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

everything one might wish to see. The location makes it, to some extent, neither town nor country (however “rural” our agricultural surroundings look).

23 Ravensden is made up of a number of 'Ends'. It would be great if they were more joined up. 3/27/2020 10:01 AM Current CoVi19 crisis has shown there is a single community here it just needs better ways of being a single village. Important is the ability to walk around the village - this is making up for the neglect of history but there should be a 10-15 year plan to build pavements for pedestrians and cyclists. We alos need a better bus service. As people get older they need public transport to avoid isolation. Young people (without cars) need it to live in village. Current buses are inadequate (no Sunday or Bank Holiday services and last bus leaves Bedford at 3.10 on a Saturday!). Need a plan to better organise routes and timetable working with other villages and bus company.

24 Footpath needed from Church End to Village HaLl Many Public footpath signs Missing so 3/27/2020 8:26 AM can inadvertently Trespass

25 It would be good to have a better stocked village shop with easier access via footpath along 3/26/2020 6:55 PM Oldways Road. More regular bus services would be good - at the moment they are at unusable times. It would be very nice to have part of Charity Field as a recreational sitting area where people could meet and chat with good views.

26 A bus stop near the Golf Club going towards Bedford would be a simple addition to improve 3/26/2020 11:43 AM the availability of the service.

27 There are no play areas. Mobile phone signal needs improving in Church End. Tranquility is 3/23/2020 1:08 PM an asset of the local area and noise mitigation from EW Rail is vital

28 Medical,Social Services, Leisure and Entertainment Facilities are only a short drive away. 3/23/2020 11:37 AM Footpath along Church Hill would be beneficial and improve safety when walking. Need to ensure footpaths and bridleways are used and kept open. Extent use of school field as a recreational area for children during school holidays and times when the school is closed.

29 Footpath on Church Hill to give easy pedestrian access to village hall from Church End 3/18/2020 4:48 PM

30 I do a lot of walking + often feel that I'm "dancing with death" due to speeding motorists! 3/17/2020 5:41 PM Speeding traffic is dangerous + MUST be addressed on country roads. I have a right to be there too! I wish that the village was more united in events

31 A footpath is needed on Bedford Road right up to the top of Graze Hill as it is very 3/17/2020 5:13 PM dangerous to try and walk at the moment with the extra traffic on Graze Hill after the new development it will only make things worse.

32 Paths - Church Hill or Oldways Road would be useful. The rural nature of Church End is very 3/17/2020 4:37 PM important to us and why we live here - quiet, fields, unspoilt countryside, and parish community.

33 The state of the footpaths on Cleat Hill non existent from Golf course to Wagstaffe Close, I 3/17/2020 4:14 PM personally have tripped many times walking to the post box, one day the trip may be serious.

34 Paths are limited which makes walking to some facilities (village hall, shop) difficult. It would 3/17/2020 3:55 PM be nice to have a small park/play area within the village.

35 I live in Glenrose Ave so Brickhill a short distance, I can walk to No 6 bus in 12 minutes + a 3/17/2020 3:41 PM short distance in car takes me to shops. Mowsbury Park + café are a short walk.

36 I live in the extremity of the village, very close to Brick Hill Bedford. Therefore my use of local 3/17/2020 2:38 PM bus services, shops, medical services and recreation (e.g. Mowsbury Park) and leisure facilities are all easy utilized from Bedford, not Ravensden. My knowledge of these Ravensden specific services is very limited outside of occasional visit to the Horse + Jockey Pub and Village Hall

37 Safety: most cars exceed the speed limit along Cleat Hill. Peace and quiet: the Mowsbury 3/15/2020 6:00 PM Council Depot is becoming more and more noisy and too much rubbish from it drifts into the brook.

38 The need to provide footways / cycleways between Mowsbury Golf Course and Church End 3/15/2020 2:47 PM to enable safer walking and cycling. However i think the roads should remain unlit

39 I would not like extensive development or the rural nature to be spoil by infrastructure to 3/15/2020 1:15 PM support development

40 HGVs & other commercial traffic servicing local businesses built on farmland disrupts traffic 3/15/2020 12:59 PM flow on narrow village roads & causes noise & air pollution

41 We want street lamps on Oldways Road. 3/14/2020 4:36 PM

42 I would like to be able to walk safely between each part of the parish 3/13/2020 6:14 PM

27 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

43 Footpath on Bedford Road too narrow and in poor state of repair. No footpath towards 3/9/2020 10:15 AM Bedford. Traffic calming needed on Bedford Road. Would like to see allotments and a 'Mens shed' established.

44 Lack of Village Green 3/8/2020 1:42 PM

3 Houses should be eco builds and consider solar, wind, ground heating etc as important. 4/7/2020 1:23 PM Need to reduce resistance on oil

4 Approved development at Graze Hill - Water From the published, - Approx 10 Acres marked 4/7/2020 11:56 AM as 'housing' - After deductions for roads verges and pavements this leaves apporx 7/8 acres - Actual plots will therefore be approx. 20 acre - This is closer than woodlands - Development is wholly within corridor 'E' the preferred route for oxford / Cambridge E/W rail link and either on or very close to, any actual track alignment

5 Good farmland and any green sites should not be selected. The character of the village must 4/7/2020 11:23 AM be maintained

6 There are quite a number of bungalows in Ravensden - at Church End and the Crossroads - 4/7/2020 10:38 AM but there is a need for smaller properties at Church End With design - a 'side on' row of cottages is characteristic eg near Ravensden Chapel or by the Horse and Jockey - this style minimises land take and road frontage Need variety of smaller houses and garden sizes - also not everyone needs dedicated parking, just visitor spaces Brownfield land is available and should be used before farmland lost

7 with the development on Cleat hill / graze lane almost doubling the housing in the village - I 4/6/2020 4:48 PM don't think that we need any more!

8 At the moment most houses are large detached we need more small starter housing for 4/6/2020 4:11 PM young families not more large detached property which is what is happening at present

9 All new housing should be in keeping with the character of the village. New housing which 4/2/2020 7:58 PM failed to do this would destroy what makes Ravensden such a nice village.

10 The identity of the parish is that it is populated in small pockets throughout and does not 4/2/2020 6:27 PM consist of large development areas. The farmland is important and a huge feature of the community, visually and as a discussion / educational / employment basis, destruction through housing sites is not wholly inappropriate but also not supported by the commuity

11 Safer Roads 4/2/2020 6:19 PM

12 It is a real shame this is being considered. At what point does it stop and the village 3/31/2020 5:19 PM becomes part of the town? We are a young family who have bought in Ravensden due to the views, quietness yet it will be ruined. Young families will move further out to get away from housing estates that ruin the countryside. They affect the housing costs around them. It is disappointing.

13 There is a lack of smaller properties for current residents to downsize to. A small number of 3/31/2020 5:04 PM these would release larger properties for families

14 Future housing should reflect the area and be of good quality and design 3/31/2020 4:18 PM

15 There seams to me to be a high number of new houses being built in and around Bedford, 3/31/2020 4:07 PM without any evidence of development of the necessary infrastructure and services required to support there (presumably) new residents. The centre of Bedford is becoming a ghost town - where are all these people going to shop, eat etc? take their leisure and educate their children in MK? We are becoming more and more a dormitory for London and Milton Keynes (and presumably Cambridge soon)

16 It should not effect agricultural land, sites need to carefully considered with location. If there 3/30/2020 5:08 PM will be more housing, Ravensden needs more amenities and public services - footpaths a must!

17 There are residents who love the village who would be happy to downsize and remain in the 3/30/2020 5:02 PM village and release larger houses with families Also younger people who have left would like to return but can not afford to do so. A mixed development would be ideal for young and old. E.G. Charity field, Caravan Field, The wooded area beyond Northfields which had planning permission in the 1970's

18 small scale affordable housing should be put in accessible sites close to services in the 3/30/2020 4:40 PM middle of settlements

19 No point in building houses without improving transport and walkways 3/30/2020 4:25 PM

20 Do not plan to build on any green spaces! 3/30/2020 4:17 PM

21 With the average age of the current population retirement housing and bungalows is 3/27/2020 5:57 PM

38 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

probably the most needed

22 The infrastructure would need to change if there was any further development and the 3/27/2020 4:46 PM village would loose its identity.

23 Although not affected personally, I recognise that there is little opportunity for young and less 3/27/2020 11:45 AM well off individuals/families to move to Ravensden even though they may have been brought up in the village. This should be addressed in formulating goals and plans for the future.

24 As important as type and size is Quality and appearance. The planning department in BBC 3/27/2020 10:05 AM place very little importance on this aspect but for existing residents and the future of the village having a style in sympathy with rural surroundings is vital.

25 There are many older people living in large houses now, who would like to stay in the 3/26/2020 6:57 PM community but would like access to high quality bungalows or sheltered bungalows. We are sitting in large family homes, but would like to move to good quality bungalows with sufficient space for our hobbies etc.

26 As Ravensden is having the new large development to the north of Woodlands estate there 3/26/2020 11:51 AM should be no more developments of this type in the village.

27 Need to define brownfield. Some obviously suggest their previous use but others have 3/23/2020 1:11 PM become natural/wild and should be kept as such.

28 Area around Ravensden is mainly agricultural and should remain so. Already there are 3/23/2020 11:46 AM planning applications for 400 new homes at adjacent to Ravensden and new houses have been approved on Graze Lane which means a reduction in arable farmland. Proposed Oxford Cambridge rail link will also reduce our farmland. Current infrastructure cannot support large scale developments.

29 Any future housing development sites should get chosen very carefully as there is already an 3/17/2020 5:46 PM extension & country park proposed emerging onto Graze Hill. Future development should be on Freemans common at the bottom of Cleat Hill, not in the Village itself.

30 I think brown sites should be used and as many green & farming land kept for that use only. 3/17/2020 5:16 PM Not for development.

31 Focus on bungalows & downsize housing for older RESIDENTS. 3/17/2020 4:40 PM

32 No comment 3/17/2020 4:15 PM

33 We are losing all our countryside, so I do not want Ravensden developed further, we have 3/17/2020 3:44 PM had large development around Bedford + we do not have the infrastructure to cope, ie. Hospital, doctors etc.

34 Any future development which would meet the need of both young and old would need to be 3/17/2020 2:57 PM superficial to encourage any future developer/builder/housing association to invest in any scheme. Should starter homes and/or retirement however be proposed, these would only be developed as part of a medium sized mixed housing development. Any such development would need to include some additional local facilities to support this and current housing, Any future development would need to be considered against increased traffic flow, potential school expansion and general disruption to the existing village population.

35 The housing needs to be in keeping with the other local houses and first refusal for FTB 3/16/2020 4:57 PM properties should be offered to younger people in the village

36 New housing should exceed the current sustainable housing standards in terms of energy 3/15/2020 2:57 PM consumption and green energy provision. There needs to be an emphasis on the provision of affordable housing.

37 A village cannot remain a village if there is extensive development . 3/15/2020 1:18 PM

38 There is a shortfall of smaller properties for current older residents to downsize to. A small 3/15/2020 1:03 PM number of these would result in freeing up some of the larger properties for families.

39 I don't believe that a small village like Ravensden should have to support more housing. 3/14/2020 6:10 PM Especially given the proximity to Bedford.

40 We need a fair mix of different types of housing evenly spread around the parish so as not to 3/14/2020 4:40 PM disrupt the local character.

41 By introducing a mix of housing this will encourage more families with young children into the 3/14/2020 4:17 PM parish, which may bring in a wealth of different interests to share with the Parish council.

42 The two new developments will see an increase in housing of approx 50% including some 3/11/2020 4:36 PM social housing. A signiificant increase beyond this is undesirable except for some smaller retirement homes in order to maintain the rural character of the parish.

39 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

43 Recently sold land on Oldways Road near the crossroads which does not seem to be any 3/9/2020 10:21 AM good for agricultural purposes could be used to provide a mix of properties and amenities.

Q19 If there are any comments you would like to make about developing the economy of the Parish please use this space:

Answered: 22 Skipped: 101

45 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

# RESPONSES DATE 1 - Home business - needs good broadband - Local traffic significantly increased since the 4/7/2020 10:43 AM crowhill farm employment area was built - farming is the key industry - Gov schemes underpin farm economy but scope for more diversification on farmland - There are underused barns in the area - could be good sites for redevelopment for employment. Also brownfield sites. - Support local farmers eg if they want to diversify

2 Keep the pub open 4/6/2020 4:49 PM

3 More individual business units and increased tourism would benefit the parish, but only if 4/2/2020 8:02 PM sustainably developed.

4 The use of sustainable technology ie PV farm could power a small eco friendly cluster of 4/2/2020 6:28 PM units

5 Keep the village as small as possible, we are losing our countryside to developers. I am 3/31/2020 5:20 PM happy to travel to the pubs etc

6 Why do we ned to develop the economy of the parish? People choose to live in a village in 3/31/2020 5:06 PM the main to escape the rat race with urban sprawl of Bedford and the parish will likely disappear

7 Small business parks or developments like the one at Crowhill farm are good model for the 3/31/2020 4:09 PM type of business facilities which would provide local development opportunities and employment, while remaining in character with the rural or semi rural nature of the parish

8 More could be done to promote 'day' tourism - walking, cycling, heritage assets (church, 3/30/2020 4:41 PM hillfort)

9 It would be amazing to receive some support and input from land owners who provide 3/30/2020 4:27 PM nothing to the community unless there is some financial gain to them

10 Investment into improving what is already in the parish e.g. existing business buildings, 3/30/2020 4:18 PM roads, safety, shops, pub etc

11 A difficult challenge. On the face of it business units of some sort might help if local residents 3/27/2020 11:53 AM are involved as operators or employees. Difficult to see general economic benefit if all participants commuted in from elsewhere.

12 Ravensden is 3 miles from the centre of Bedford - it seems a lot further when thinking about 3/27/2020 10:10 AM communications and economic opportunities. Improved transportation solution are required - for private cars, public transport and the ability to cycle or walk from the village into town. This would give an energy to the parish without loss of rural character.

13 I don't know that improving our economy is a priority, except that it might support the village 3/26/2020 6:58 PM shop.

14 The parish is attractive for walkers and cyclists and more could be made of this, to benefit 3/23/2020 1:13 PM local businesses (shop, garage, maybe a drop-in place offering coffee etc)

15 Over time land use has changed and more businesses have arrived in Ravensden e.g 3/23/2020 11:50 AM Cattery, Equestrian Centre, Green Waste Recycling Centre.

16 In due course, the EW railway will doubtless do this, though it's exact course will need very 3/17/2020 5:48 PM careful consideration.

17 No comments 3/17/2020 4:16 PM

18 The economy of the village is driven by moneys the Parish precept and spent on local 3/17/2020 3:06 PM facilities/issues, together with local businesses. The school attendees are largely from outside the village. Community volunteers across a wide range of local networks help maintain a degree of economic support. Any major increase in economic growth will only happen with major investment and development of large businesses in the community, which may not be the approach of the community .

19 New housing to include working from home units 3/15/2020 3:02 PM

20 Industry would increase transport and again change nature if the village 3/15/2020 1:20 PM

21 Why do we need to develop the economy of a small village which people live in the escape 3/15/2020 1:06 PM the rat race. There is plently of scope within the urban sprawl of Bedford & Kempston to develop the economy.

22 Given its location in relation to Bedford developing the economy of the village is a low 3/11/2020 4:42 PM priority. However, home working will expand because of G5 but most of this will not need physical accommodation. Tourism is irrelevent.

# RESPONSES DATE 1 Mowsbury Hillfort 4/7/2020 1:50 PM

2 Mowsbury Hillfort should be protected 4/7/2020 1:38 PM

3 Public pathways and bridleways could be better marked. More information available to public 4/7/2020 1:27 PM on these. Hedgerows and spinneys important and wildlife View down to Bedford from Church Hill / End View up to church from Oldways Road is quite a historic view

4 The agricualtural / pastural land in the valley between Graze Hill / Mowsbury Hill and 4/7/2020 12:01 PM Sunderland Hill running from Turleigh to Renhold. This would be completely destroyed by any track alignment in the preferred corridor Route 'E' of the proposed E/W rail link

5 view of church from valley 4/7/2020 11:29 AM

6 1. Views to Church - from SW - Grazehill, from oldways Rd and fields views to water tower - 4/7/2020 10:59 AM from fpath above field to SE of church Also across charity field and from green land 2. Green spaces - management of woods eg Great and Little woods and Tilwick Wood as ancient woodland. I'm also concerned about how The Plantation is being rearranged , all are privately owned, but Ravensden has very little woodland and all are important for landscape and wildlife. Little copse opposite Green Lane at Northfields - a lovely rural feature Graze Hill Lane and verges, plus old trees - very tranquil and historic Ravensden Brook - needs enhancement, create a wildlife corridor Buildings - All Saints Church and The Water Tower - landmarks. Would love the water tower to be repainted / spruced up - project for Anglian Water Our veteran trees also need protection / care - but this can be very costly for the owners

7 - cleat hill farm should be listed - mowsbury hillfort - protected - views across the fields - 4/6/2020 4:51 PM protected

8 view of the hill of the church Green lane Not driving a railway line through the Oldways Road 4/6/2020 4:30 PM Valley

9 The parish would benefit from increased meadowland, woodland and hedgerows. Recent 4/2/2020 8:09 PM events have shown that the wildlife and natural environment are not adequately protected as a land owner personally oversaw the destruction of a badger set without any facing repercussions. Many trees were also removed which detracted from the beauty of the area and destroyed habitats.

10 The view from within the parish to the church is a key feature and identity of the parish. The 4/2/2020 6:33 PM small clusters of homes and farms also give the identity with the farmland and natural habitats between - both hugely important to the community

11 In view of the impending development at Graze Hill, the land between the village perimeter 4/2/2020 4:59 PM near wayside farm park and graze hill should be protected. There is already an increasing volume / noise of traffic and speeding

12 The fields surrounding our house are the reason why we moved here. It is a complete shame 3/31/2020 5:22 PM when these are filled with housing estates

13 Green spaces in Church End i.e Charity Field, school playing field need to be protected. 3/31/2020 5:08 PM Ravensden Church a 12th Centaury building also needs protection

14 The land between new close and wayside mobile home park 3/31/2020 4:56 PM

15 Mowsbury golf club is a vital lung to our community and offers great views from Gleat hill in 3/31/2020 4:48 PM all directions, which should be maintained

16 1, Mowsbury Hill 2, Mowsbury golf course 3, Graze Hill 3/31/2020 4:14 PM

17 As 1 above, most are overgrown, needs more maintenance 3/30/2020 5:09 PM

18 Views from cleat hill are important to identity of parish. Views from green lane important East 3/30/2020 4:43 PM west rail will massively intrude into views - mitigation essential

19 Pollution from the green waste site has devastated fishing in the fishing lakes on sunderland 3/30/2020 4:30 PM Hill. Unacceptable levels of litter from lorries attending green waste site on verges and road, danger to traffic, poorly managed site.

24 Freemans Common and The Mowsbury Hill Fort should remain protected, unspoilt areas 3/27/2020 5:45 PM

25 General countryside from any future railway plans 3/27/2020 4:53 PM

26 The rural landscape is attractive and should be preserved as far as possible. Graze Lane 3/27/2020 12:18 PM and Green Lane are refuges from 21st century living and should remain so. The church and some of the older residences in the village merit protection both in terms of the buildings themselves and their surroundings.

27 Although there are a multitude of footpaths in the parish many are impassable (particularly 3/27/2020 10:17 AM across agricultural land). What is required is to identify fewer key footpaths/bridleways and make sure they are well maintained and signed. These can supplement what should be improved pedestrian paths along roads in the parish.

28 Church Hedges opposite church should be cut shorter to enhance view 3/27/2020 8:36 AM

29 I would like Northfields wood to be protected, as it houses a variety of wildlife including a well 3/26/2020 7:02 PM established colony of rooks, deer, badgers etc. The trees are well established. It is a very pleasant area - perhaps could be used as a pocket park? I think the view across the valley from Church End near the church (across Charity Field) could be improved, and Charity field itself used as a "Village Green" for people to meet on when the weather is good.

30 The present natural space is good, not known how well it is protected. Mowsbury Hill Fort 3/26/2020 12:01 PM area should be fully protected in its natural state as it is presently.

31 views from Cleat Hill towards water tower and church. Views from Green Lane back towards 3/23/2020 1:18 PM Bedford. Both need to be safeguarded. EW Rail will massively intrude into these views and strong mitigation will be needed - tree planting, habitat imrpovement etc

32 Ravensden is surrounded by farmland which provides employment and supports the 3/23/2020 12:05 PM economy. It also supports the natural habitat and is well known for supporting a diverse range of flora and fauna. Land around Tilwick in the north of the parish is a designated site of special scientific interest and is also the site of a medieval manor and village. There are many listed building within the parish including Mowsbury Hill Fort.

33 The view from the top of Clete Hill towards Sunderland Hill and Church End Ravensden 3/18/2020 5:16 PM should be protected from unsightly and intrusive development.

34 There are some beautiful views + landscapes which should be protected. Top of Cleat Hill 3/17/2020 5:52 PM through to Church End. Mindless desecration of trees & hedgerows should not be allowed or repeated!

35 The water tower on Sunderland Hill. Views to & from should be protected as it is a well 3/17/2020 5:18 PM known landmark.

36 The Church! And it's surroundings/views/landscape/setting. Protect the Chanty (?) field! The 3/17/2020 4:51 PM School Field

42 Wood End and Graze Hill used to be classed as a conservation area, but this appears to 3/16/2020 5:03 PM have been removed, I am guessing to allow the extra houses to be built and access granted via Graze Hill? How is this historic lane planned to be protected going forward or are we allowing ancient and natural green spaces to decline in favour of fenced and essentially "humanised" outdoor spaces that comply with planning eg The planted and fenced areas behind the new part of Brickhill.

# OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY) DATE 1 New builds should prioritise sustainability eg. solar panels 4/2/2020 8:09 PM

2 Biofuel development - 5 3/31/2020 4:14 PM

3 "Style" of new building is important to maintaining the long-term rural nature of the village. 3/27/2020 10:17 AM

4 The erection of wind turbines in prominent positions must be avoided 3/27/2020 8:36 AM

5 New houses should be provided with eco car charging points. Consider small scale solar on 3/23/2020 1:18 PM underused agricultural land but not wind turbines.

6 Important to ensure any new buildings are energy efficient. Local recycling facilities are 3/23/2020 12:05 PM available nearby.

7 Sustainable transport particularly cycling and bus services need to be improved. 3/15/2020 3:14 PM

8 BUT the enormous quantity of heavy traffic accessing the green waste site should be limited 3/14/2020 1:20 PM and reduced.

55 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

# RESPONSES DATE 1 Is there anyway the lights on the changing rooms could be controlled via a sensor most 4/7/2020 1:50 PM Saturday / sunday evenings the lights are left on all night

2 Develop a wildlife reserve Dog walking on public pathways and bridleways is v important to 4/7/2020 1:27 PM residents health and wellbeing.

3 More footpaths are needed to connect parts of the village 4/7/2020 11:24 AM

4 1 - Front gardens and garden hedges / trees in particular are very important throughout 4/7/2020 10:59 AM village and especially at Church End where the houses are not distinctive! (most of them) Over the years hedges - native and ornamental have been removed and replaced by walls, railinigs or bollards. No good at greening the village or for wildlife - a very suburban change. We are becoming the village of evergreen laurels. 2 - EW Rail - will drastically change the landscape - with cuttings or embankments. Need to gain - new woodland, hedges or wildflowers on cuttings. Have to make it positive! 3 - Safer pavements / cycleways required eg Oldways Rd and Bedford Hill - if set into farmland will save the verges which are important in a village (pavements at replaced verges may be safe but looks terrible)

5 provide a footpath from cleat hill to the cross roads and up to the church 4/6/2020 4:51 PM

6 We ned o be very vigilent regarding the East West rail link. I do not think the current plan is 4/6/2020 4:30 PM good. They should go South of Bedford with a new Bedford Station built there

7 I believe it is hugely important to preserve and protect our environment and identity within 4/2/2020 6:33 PM the parish. Destruction of green fields and the like would be a huge detriment to the parish and would open up destruction to neighbouring parishes. Key development of sustainable energy should be at the forefront of our parish plan

8 The cost of electric central heating the lack of support from the government in grants makes 3/31/2020 5:22 PM it difficult

9 The proposed EWR will have a huge effect on the environment 3/31/2020 5:08 PM

10 The parish is fractured. For those of us who live outside Ravensden village we are made to 3/31/2020 4:14 PM feel that the village residents don't much care about development outside the village itself, so for example they are apparently OK with the housing development at the top of Cleat Hill, because it is literally 'not in their back yard'. Unless you unite the parish its going to be difficult to resist inappropriate development in all parts of the parish

11 I am a new resident in the parish of Ravensden. I enjoy running in the fields around 3/30/2020 4:53 PM ravensden using the bridleways and footpaths. The area is beautiful with stunning views and I hope this does not change

12 any new housing should include electric vehicle charging points Dog Poo bins required 3/30/2020 4:43 PM

13 See box 21 for environmental impact of green waste site (on fishing lakes) - it is having an 3/30/2020 4:30 PM impact on environment which is not being addressed. Fires are frequent leading to air pollution and water pollution

14 none at this time 3/30/2020 4:19 PM

15 Looking forward to the survey 3/27/2020 4:53 PM

16 Green Spaces should be identified and be well signed. They could feature footpaths and 3/27/2020 10:17 AM facilities such as seats to relax in and encourage families/children to use them.

17 I would like the bottle bank to be brought back. There are many houses that have very bright 3/26/2020 7:02 PM lights which are blinding when walking down the road. Light pollution is becoming more of an issue. Some houses are now building unsightly high fences and walls which are ugly and create an eyesore in the village.

18 Dog poo bins needed in the parish, every other parish seems to have them and it does 3/23/2020 1:18 PM reduce dog fouling

19 The disappearance of hedgerows on agricultural land within the parish has had a detrimental 3/18/2020 5:16 PM effect on wildlife. Farmers must be encouraged to protect wildlife and reinstate hedgerows and areas of natural habitat.

20 The provision of several litter bins to reduce the irritating & unnecessary problem of litter 3/17/2020 5:52 PM along the Village roads. Fly tipping has also occurred on Church Hill near the Brook

21 Farming land should be kept as farming land. 3/17/2020 5:18 PM

22 Need to protect hedgerows, open spaces and areas important to wildlife. Also trees and 3/17/2020 4:51 PM public footpaths.

56 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

23 I chose to live in Ravensden, not a town so I do not want it developed further, with the new 3/17/2020 3:48 PM houses planned it will increase traffic on the railway not far away, will also mean more noise.

24 I would request more information of the current status of all these topics in the Village to 3/17/2020 3:31 PM enable me to better comment of their desirability.

25 If we lose anymore fields & green parks to development we will also lose all our birds to a 3/17/2020 1:14 PM concrete jungle including also all wild life.

26 Continued effort to clear up litter...... 3/15/2020 6:05 PM

27 Any new housing should be on green energy only, no oil heating permitted. We ought to 3/15/2020 3:14 PM encourage green energy community schemes such as community solar farm / bio fuel.

28 The proposed EWR will have an enormous effect on the environment especially during the 3/15/2020 1:11 PM building stages

29 Destroying the environment with an unnecessary railway track and infrastructure, including 3/14/2020 6:13 PM the ongoing environmental impact of running the railway, seems inconsistent with a green agenda.

30 I would like to see the village have a zero carbon footprint by 2014? Could we have a solar 3/13/2020 6:25 PM energy farm?

31 The factors listed in Q20 are generally well provided for, but it is difficult to be fully satisfied, 3/11/2020 4:46 PM given the destruction of some hedge rows and the forthcoming train line.

57 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

Q24 Please make any other comments that you want to be considered as we develop the Neighbourhood Plan (e.g. traffic management):

Answered: 66 Skipped: 57

58 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

# RESPONSES DATE 1 Oldways Road should definitely have average speed cemeras from the village shop. Always 4/7/2020 2:32 PM think it would be good to liase with Renhold and have this continued to Hookhams lane junction

2 Introduction of average speed camera Thought about traffic joining Cleat Hill and Graze Hill 4/7/2020 2:16 PM development goes ahead Cyclists on Cleat Hill are a danger - possible cycle track?

3 Speed control down Cleat Hill cars are speeding down the Hill and one day there will be a 4/7/2020 1:50 PM serious accident

4 The speed needs to be reduced it is like a race track 4/7/2020 1:33 PM

5 Traffic - church end is used as a cut through. School traffic sometimes is too fast - especially 4/7/2020 1:29 PM on Church Hill at pick up in the afternoon. Dangerous for walkers Burglary - is high in the area. We should do more to prevent this. More CCTV in village for security?

6 Wood end to Graze hill traffic at rush hour in the morning during the working week. No 4/7/2020 1:17 PM enforcement of the law creates local confidence issues and huge safety problems for anybody on that lane at that time. Environmental conservation is an issue at this time with cehicles using the verges which are conservation areas. The Graze Hill development will only enhance the current problems

7 Due to Graze Hill development consider traffic calming on Cleat Hill - speed bump or 4/7/2020 11:30 AM preferably mini roundabouts at Wagstaffe, Glenrose and golf club - use 106 money

8 Restriction of the size and weight of lorries using country roads - especially considering the 4/7/2020 11:26 AM problems they face manoeuvring the bends on cleat hill and the damage caused to the road surfaces

9 - Need to prioritise a pavement to link Graze Hill development to village shop - but not next 4/7/2020 11:11 AM to road if possible - Traffic calming important - no area is safe from speeding - Bus services - we need a bus service but not the 'empty' coach sized buses. Could there be a 'workshop' with bus company, Beds Boro and parish / community to work out how best to keep a service that is useful / used? - Some villages / towns have a 'transforming' group to bring about environmental change. Parish Council does some activities eg litter clearance, wildflowers, bulbs - but more could be done eg to promote treeplanting in the parish (years ago there was a tree warden scheme) A new orchard would be great, some trees already in school grounds - Drainage / run off on Church Hill - despite work and resurfacing, there are still problems. Could work with the farms to plant some trees in field to east, to try to hold back runoff General Comment: Ravensden is a rural parish with distinctive 'ends'. More development, especially as 'infill' after the railway would greatly change the character of the village. Ravensden and Renhold need to be kept distinctive and separate - more housing at Renhold off Renhold Rd is a treat to this - the villages will merge. Ravensden also links to Thureigh - a village also likely to change with a new settlement We are closest Bedford but Ravensden needs to keep its rural character - it has countryside used by many - from Bedford and area, even St Neots - who use the lanes for cycling and footpaths for walking / running - the rural qualities benefit the town, not just residents of the parish

10 control the speeding on cleat hill 4/6/2020 4:51 PM

11 Guard against any developments that significantly increase road traffic through Church End 4/6/2020 4:31 PM Ravensden

12 Traffic on the Bedford Road is extremely busy and noisy. I thik speed cameras are urgently 4/6/2020 4:14 PM needed at the start of the parish to slow traffic down - before an accident happens

13 Heritage sites and environmentally important sites should be highlighted to the parish 4/2/2020 6:35 PM stakeholders as so education and preservation of these areas can be achieved - potentially access too. History of the village should be made more available as so persons will understand the importance to keep tranquil and pleasant

14 Bedford Road definitely need speed cameras for averaging speed. the majority of vehicles 4/2/2020 5:01 PM totally ignore the 30mph restriction - both ways. There is a definite danger to pedestrians, many of whom are elderly.

15 There is already a heavy flow of traffic at peak times down Butler St from the commutors. 3/31/2020 5:25 PM The new housing estate will bring more traffic and more crime within the area. It is a sad decision that the housing estate on Graze Hill is being considered. Where will the countryside be in 10 years??? The people that make the decisions obviously don't live in the area to be impacted on in this way!!

16 Church End is often difficult to navigate due to parked cars restricting traffic. HGV's and large 3/31/2020 5:10 PM farm machinery often drive over verges / pathways in order to pass Any new properties need to have appropriate parking spaces - many 3 bed properties have 4 cars

59 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

17 Average speed cameras on Bedford Rd - motorcyclists are using this road as a race track 3/31/2020 4:57 PM

18 Do not think there is much space to make many changes and the volume of traffic in the 3/31/2020 4:49 PM area does not warrant great expenditure This reflects the views of both myself and my wife

19 Speed limits need reviewing if more housing is developed 3/30/2020 5:10 PM

20 No speed cameras in cleat hill Stop all the wood on the road and the grass from the green 3/30/2020 4:57 PM waste site

21 Traffic management on Bedford Road especially on sundays with the motor cycling 3/30/2020 4:36 PM speeding. With extra volume of traffic on the Bedford Road residents arriving from town on the bus will have problems crossing the road to wayside farm park, also leaving wayside FP by car

22 More traffic management is NOT needed More communal facilities 3/30/2020 4:31 PM

23 improve road safety / lower speeds install traffic calming devices (sleeping policemen etc / 3/30/2020 4:21 PM camera average speeds) Improve traffic management - too much heavy traffic using country roads, which can't take the weights of the vehicles, the house shakes and road suffers and gets damaged.

24 If more houses are developed there should be due regard to increased road usage, Lower 3/30/2020 10:32 AM Rd should have safe footpath for its whole length.

25 Noise levels controlled. Traffic volume montitored. Road maintenance and drainage needs to 3/27/2020 7:14 PM be sufficient for any infrasturcture, development changes.

26 Traffic management on Oldways road, trying to reduce it being used as a rat run to the A421. 3/27/2020 6:17 PM Ensure that relevant infrastructure, drainage etc, is implemented with any new housing/business development.

27 Further traffic calming in and around the village especially on the B660 3/27/2020 4:55 PM

28 Please bear in mind that not everyone has access to a car. Age or ill health may prevent any 3/27/2020 12:20 PM of us from driving. So adequate public transport is essential. The ability to walk between Ravensden’s ends and out of the village without having to hop on and off uneven grass verges when large or fast vehicles approach would make a difference. How many residents take their dogs for walks by getting in their car to go somewhere else?

29 The village has great potential but it needs an agreed plan and then the funding to 3/27/2020 10:36 AM implement it and make improvements. Ravensden has the lowest contribution of any Parish to local Council funding and yet it requires money to be spent to create the village so many people want. This results in no money being available for pedestrian pavements, speed control cameras etc. Ravensden suffers from being a 'rat run' during commuting periods of the day. A traffic plan needs to be worked out with BBC and Highways authority that seeks to restrict traffic on certain roads at certain times and to enforce speed limits that ensure better safety of residents, cyclists , walkers etc and maintain the rural characteristics of our historical community. The preference given to motorists passing through our community (e.g. allowing them to use the quickest, fastest route at whatever speed they want) has to change if the village character is to be maintained. We need consider the consequences of traffic when we allow new developments or encourage new industry/employment. Plans are approved without a realistic assessment of the increase in traffic, parking arrangements, and whether it will result in large trucks using our rural roads. Average Speed cameras are essential - putting up signs and having a highly visible policeman stand by the roadway once a year is not a solution. It needs 24/7 speed monitoring with the certainty of fines for breaking the law. Absence of this control is a major problem to most villagers - it spoils the peace and quiet of a rural setting, it damages the environment and it is a safety hazard.

30 Speeding in church end. Anti social parking and engine idling by school parents should be 3/27/2020 8:37 AM addressed

31 Traffic along Oldways Road (and sometimes along Church End) goes very fast. Oldways 3/26/2020 7:05 PM Road when there are no painted lines is very dangerous in fog, I nearly hit something head on when they were taken away as there was no guidance as to where the car was on the road. Footpaths between Church End and the Village Hall, and between the Village Hall and the shop would enhance safety. A tennis court would be nice! Building design rules for new buildings might prevent the unsightly nature of some of the housing now being developed.

32 Require road improvements to B660 in Cleat Hill area particularly in view of the increased 3/26/2020 12:14 PM traffic that will result from the new housing and new roundabout at Graze Hill. This to include :- improved street lighting, better speed enforcement, improved pavements. Country nature of Graze Hill road to be maintained.

33 Ravensden cross roads seems the best place for small scale housing and employment and 3/23/2020 1:20 PM

60 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

this provides an opportunity to consider junction improvements and traffic calming

34 Increased development in the area will increase traffic flow the parish. Speeding traffic 3/23/2020 12:08 PM through the parish and on road/pavement parking in Church End is already a safety issue.

35 Measures must be introduced to control the traffic using Oldways Road which will certainly 3/18/2020 5:26 PM increase once the new large development is completed. Any new roundabout introduced at the top of Graze Lane must not be illuminated in such a way that it is out of character of a rural village.

36 See 9 Large HVS's should not be allowed to use Church Hill to reduce fresh damage to the 3/17/2020 5:58 PM bridge over the Brook, unless for deliveries. A 37.5T weight limit should be imposed as in Renhold.

37 Graze Hill lane is often used to fast (60+ at times) - road bumps and signs advised to slow 3/17/2020 5:35 PM traffic down. Its extremely unsafe for walkers, cyclists and residents - especially children.

38 A footpath should be provided the whole length of Bedford Road, from the crossroads to 3/17/2020 5:24 PM Cleat Hill. Many people walk along here & with the new homes where the Indian Restaurant was there will be more. This is dangerous!! Lighting is not essential as there is none at present.

39 Concerns about impact on wildlife + noise pollution of East West Rail. 3/17/2020 5:01 PM

40 Protecting the rural character of the Parish, and especially of Church Hill/Church End is very 3/17/2020 4:57 PM important. Ensuring that EWR and future housing/development plans do not damage irreparably this rural character is our key concern.

41 Reduce the speed of traffic on Cleat Hill average speed cameras from top of hill to the 3/17/2020 4:18 PM Pheasant this is not an 80mph zone.

42 As the NP develops it will be important to share key information on the population and 3/17/2020 3:31 PM structure of the Village. It will be helpful to understand the Village demographic. heritage green and footpath sites and the status of the "call for sites" housing proposals. A more detailed knowledge of the make up of the Village and it's population will be very helpful and help me comment on the future development of the Village

43 Speed cameras need to be installed on Cleat Hill rather than, or as well as the advisory 3/17/2020 1:32 PM speed cameras currently in use.

44 It would be great if there could be more pavements in the village, either connecting Bedford 3/17/2020 1:24 PM Road to Bedford or along Oldways Road to Renhold. My children can't currently walk/cycle to school.

45 The infrastructure of the parish & neighbourhood can not take any more traffic, people & 3/17/2020 1:16 PM cars. We move to these areas to get peace, tranquillity & to lead a gentle life. Most of us do not wish to live on top of everybody & have pleasant views

46 Please enforce the no traffic signs at the bottom of Wood End, cars fly at dangerous speeds 3/16/2020 5:05 PM up this rat run every morning. It tends to be the same cars every day and it destroys the verges and wildlife, not to mention the mindless littering!

47 The current rat runs through the village are increasingly busy with traffic anything that can be 3/16/2020 2:45 PM done to manage tis would be great

48 Light pollution. Monitoring traffic especially with the proposed estate on Graze Hill. 3/15/2020 5:24 PM

49 Cleat Hill is a notorious road for excess speed already. With the new houses being built that 3/15/2020 5:17 PM will only increase. The only solution is average speed cameras. Not a fixed sight camera or speed humps. Sadly someone will lose their life on this road if nothing is done.

50 What are the communities priorities for CIL expenditure? 3/15/2020 3:15 PM

51 Essentially any development should be sympathetic and in proportion. No street lights. 3/15/2020 1:23 PM Traffic calming measures.

52 It is often difficult to get off my own drive onto Church End due to the amount of traffic. 3/15/2020 1:17 PM Typically there are many parked cars in the road and the number increases at school start & finish times. The situation is made worse by large farm equipment competing with delivery vans servicing offices built at the local farm. Any further development must have sufficient off road parking space

53 Rush hour traffic using Oldways road as shortcut. School parking and speeding parents. 3/14/2020 8:49 PM Heavy and delivery vehicles en route to business park

54 Traffic restriction enforcement in Oldways would reduce the environmental impact on the 3/14/2020 6:15 PM local community.

61 / 62 Ravensden Parish Neighbourhood Plan

55 A fully functional photographic speed camera on Oldways Road is needed. The current radar 3/14/2020 4:48 PM speed indicator is completely ignored by many speeding commuters cutting through the area to/from the A421.

56 Please consider speeding around the Parish. With more people of all ages wanting to live 3/14/2020 4:27 PM here decent safe foot paths would allow people to keep healthy, be greener and keep safe from traffic.

57 Better traffic management is important to me. Too much speeding through the village 3/14/2020 4:10 PM

58 The existing B660 is neither wide enough nor strong enough for the current quantity of very 3/14/2020 1:24 PM heavy traffic. It is only a matter of time before someone is killed or injured. Traffic calming measures essential or another route built. Pavements non existent or in a very poor state of repair. Unsafe for the numerous cyclists.

59 There seems to me to be little regulation or surveilence of traffic through the village with 3/14/2020 8:40 AM regard to speed. Combined with poor road surfaces, narrowing of lanes and lack of visibility I fear for the safety of all users. Cleat Hill is really dangerous & there have been accidents already. I note thta many of the Council vehicles appear prime speedsters. An independent survey carried out by an ex-traffic policeman of Bedford found over 80% of vehicles exceeded the 30 mph restriction by 50% or more!

60 Improve the road and path condition in Cleat Hill before any development is started 3/13/2020 7:53 PM

61 Traffic management is an important issue, as is parking. School parking and parking on 3/13/2020 6:27 PM bends is a problem as is speeding through all parts of the village.

62 In general, the Borough Council's 2030 housing plan is to the benefit of the parish, given the 3/11/2020 4:49 PM creation of the country park to create a clear rural boundary with Bedford. Any major housing beyond thsi boundary would undermine the plan, and threaten the chracter of the village,

63 Absence of footpaths by the roads is an issue, especially Oldways Road and Bedford Road. 3/10/2020 11:55 AM Walking with a pushchair is a nightmare. Traffic calming on Oldways Road needs to be addressed.

64 School traffic / parking needs to be managed 3/10/2020 11:48 AM

65 Traffic calming on Bedford Road and pedestrian access to Brickhill. 3/9/2020 10:26 AM

66 We must ensure sufficient social housing to meet the neesds of the homeless and 3/9/2020 10:02 AM dispossessed from all over the worls. We have a social responsibility.

62 / 62
