2019-2020 NEWSLETTER Tryout Edition 2019-2020 SEASON Tryout Edition

Well that time of year is here again, TRYOUTS. It is a time when coaches, parents, players, and club officials look forward to or are completely stressed out with. Your child is encouraged to try-out and play for teams that are compatible with their desires, temperament, personality, experience, and ability. On the following pages of this newsletter you will find a summary of the tryout information for each age group and clubs for this year.

THINGS YOU SHOULD DO AND ASK AT A TRYOUT

If this is your first tryout, your child should be dressed in shorts, shin guards and soccer cleats. You should bring a ball and water to drink during breaks. All of the tryouts have a time prior to the actual tryout to record personal data. There may be long lines so come early.

Ask the following questions: What is the cost? Ask for a cost breakdown sheet. When are practices? How long are practices? How many tournaments will the team be in? Are tournaments included in the cost? Are all practices, skill sessions, scrimmages, and tournaments mandatory? What is the team goal? What is the club philosophy and plan for teams and individual players? What kind of player is the team and/or club looking for? What is the coaches’ plan for playing time? Will the Club or Coach move a more advanced player to a more competitive team during the season? Is the team your son or daughter trying out for a Premier, Challenge, or Recreational team? Etc.

RULES FOR TRYOUTS

For U-9 teams and older no player may be contacted by anyone other than his or her own team until 6 P.M. May 20, 2019. No player can practice and tryout with another team prior to the DCSL scheduled tryouts without the permission of their current coach. Current U-8 & U-9 and younger teams may sign their current players (and new players to the league) after the last scheduled DCSL game which was April 28th.

Recruitment or attempting to induce a registered player of any team under the jurisdiction of NMYSA by contacting the player, either through its responsible officials, officers, coaches, parents, players or representatives, prior to 6pm the day after the conclusion of the US Youth Soccer New Mexico Open State Cup Tournament which is May 20 for the purpose of playing for another team is considered POACHING.

Players may be offered a spot on a team after May 20 at 6:00 pm. However, nothing is binding until the day after age group tryouts are complete. Teams cannot register new players until the day after the age group tryouts are done. Registration is completed when the online application has been completed (online applications can be found on each clubs web site) and money has been paid.

No teams are allowed to practice during the times tryouts are being held for their age groups or at Balloon Fiesta Park after 3pm.

Players should be able to attend all tryouts prior to having to make a decision. They should not be discouraged or intimidated from attending any or all of the tryouts. See DCSL Disciplinary Policy for further information.

RULES FOR TRANSFERRING

Transfers within clubs (from one club team to another team in the same club) are allowed throughout the year. Transfers between clubs and leagues are only allowed between December 15 and January 31 with a fee of $25. Please see your current handbook for more information. Remember that you are committing to play on the team you register with for the entire year and that the Duke City League fee is non-refundable. If you have any question or concerns do not hesitate to call us. Good luck, have a great summer, and see you next year on the pitch.

NEW MEXICO RUSH COMPETITIVE PROGRAM Designed specifically for players ages U9-U18 Boys and Girls

Our Competitive Program exists to allow any competitive player the opportunity to take their game to its full potential. The higher the players skill level…the greater the commitment. Rush believes in striving for excellence. As players progress, they are constantly put in new situations to provide a greater challenge if that is what the player desires. For our top players, goals should include playing on the top “Rush” team in their respective age group, Regional Rush “Select XI” teams, National Rush “Select XI” teams, US National teams, College teams, and professional teams. For our club, we want to push our players to “the next level”. This “next level” may be different for every player within NM Rush. Academy teams represent the top players in the club as evaluated by the coaching staff. Within each age and gender the Rush has an overall goal consisting of three Academy team levels; "Rush," “Nero, and ”Azul.” All of these Competitive teams participate in a club centric program designed specifically for their individual ability and commitment level. Competitive players can expect a year-round training schedule that may include out-of-state tournament travel, competition in the DCSL’s Premier and Challenge brackets, advancement to state, regional and national championship events through US Club and USYS. All players will receive top-level training from Rush coaches dedicated to developing the skills of these players throughout the calendar year. NM Rush is member of the NMYSA, United Soccer Coaches, US Club ECNL, and USYS National Lagues.

New Mexico Rush players enjoy the following programs and opportunities as part of their annual Academy Club fee. • Top-level professional staff members, including former college players, former professional players, and nationally licensed coaches. • Exposure for college-bound players within the nationwide network of Rush Coaches and Clubs. • Low player-to-coach ratios to fully develop players. “QUALITY OVER QUANTITY” • An intensely competitive training environment to maximize player development • Academy Directors and Youth Academy Directors of Coaching to track the annual player development process • Team administration and office support • Club benefits including the following events and various Rush products, programs and services based on level of play ♦ Rush Summer Skills Nights: This program is supplementary training that will be offered twice a week during the summer from the end of June 2019 through July 2019. DEVELOPMENTAL SOCCER PLAYERS U5-U8 (2015-2012)

At the youngest ages, the game of soccer should be modified to suit the needs of the players. Players should be given as many touches on the ball as possible in both practice and game situations. Small-sided game such as 1v1 thru 4v4 for the appropriate age groups allows this to happen. New Mexico Rush has designed the “SHARP SHOOTERS” for all beginning youth soccer players in the Albuquerque metro area. Whether your player lives on the Eastside or Westside NM Rush’s Sharp Shooters program is ideal for fostering your child’s enjoyment, technique, and tactical understanding when it comes to the game of soccer. Sharp Shooters has been designed to develop your player’s overall enjoyment of the game and prepare them for the Competitive Program (U9-U18) at New Mexico Rush Soccer Club. The Sharp Shooters program is led by our very own licensed professional coaching staff to insure children of these ages are getting the skill set needed to enjoy the beautiful game.

Sharp Shooters U5-U8 Boy and Girls Program: Cost: $250 per player annually (or $150 per season) and includes the following § US Club Soccer player registration § 16 game nights § 32 training sessions (outdoor and futsal training) § Sharp Shooters Uniform § Professional coaching staff § Monthly coaching education for volunteer parent coaches § Age appropriate curriculum § No weekend commitment from parents and player § No tryouts needed § Less than $21 a month for annual registration • Register online today through www.nmrush.com or by call 505.998.7285
