2019-2020 NEWSLETTER Tryout Edition 2019-2020 SEASON Tryout Edition Well that time of year is here again, TRYOUTS. It is a time when coaches, parents, players, and club officials look forward to or are completely stressed out with. Your child is encouraged to try-out and play for teams that are compatible with their desires, temperament, personality, experience, and ability. On the following pages of this newsletter you will find a summary of the tryout information for each age group and clubs for this year. THINGS YOU SHOULD DO AND ASK AT A TRYOUT If this is your first tryout, your child should be dressed in shorts, shin guards and soccer cleats. You should bring a ball and water to drink during breaks. All of the tryouts have a time prior to the actual tryout to record personal data. There may be long lines so come early. Ask the following questions: What is the cost? Ask for a cost breakdown sheet. When are practices? How long are practices? How many tournaments will the team be in? Are tournaments included in the cost? Are all practices, skill sessions, scrimmages, and tournaments mandatory? What is the team goal? What is the club philosophy and plan for teams and individual players? What kind of player is the team and/or club looking for? What is the coaches’ plan for playing time? Will the Club or Coach move a more advanced player to a more competitive team during the season? Is the team your son or daughter trying out for a Premier, Challenge, or Recreational team? Etc. RULES FOR TRYOUTS For U-9 teams and older no player may be contacted by anyone other than his or her own team until 6 P.M. May 20, 2019. No player can practice and tryout with another team prior to the DCSL scheduled tryouts without the permission of their current coach. Current U-8 & U-9 and younger teams may sign their current players (and new players to the league) after the last scheduled DCSL game which was April 28th. Recruitment or attempting to induce a registered player of any team under the jurisdiction of NMYSA by contacting the player, either through its responsible officials, officers, coaches, parents, players or representatives, prior to 6pm the day after the conclusion of the US Youth Soccer New Mexico Open State Cup Tournament which is May 20 for the purpose of playing for another team is considered POACHING. Players may be offered a spot on a team after May 20 at 6:00 pm. However, nothing is binding until the day after age group tryouts are complete. Teams cannot register new players until the day after the age group tryouts are done. Registration is completed when the online application has been completed (online applications can be found on each clubs web site) and money has been paid. No teams are allowed to practice during the times tryouts are being held for their age groups or at Balloon Fiesta Park after 3pm. Players should be able to attend all tryouts prior to having to make a decision. They should not be discouraged or intimidated from attending any or all of the tryouts. See DCSL Disciplinary Policy for further information. RULES FOR TRANSFERRING Transfers within clubs (from one club team to another team in the same club) are allowed throughout the year. Transfers between clubs and leagues are only allowed between December 15 and January 31 with a fee of $25. Please see your current handbook for more information. Remember that you are committing to play on the team you register with for the entire year and that the Duke City League fee is non-refundable. If you have any question or concerns do not hesitate to call us. Good luck, have a great summer, and see you next year on the pitch.
