In this research, the researcher uses quasi-experimental design. The researcher uses two classes. In experiment class and control class group the researcher applies pre-test and post-test design as the research design. The population is students of the second grade of MTs Al-Falah. The sample is B class as the experimental group and A class as the control group. Every group has 33 students. The result of the study reveals that using group discussion is effective to be used in teaching and learning speaking English. This can be seen from the calculation of t-observation is 2.65 with 5% significant level with 64 df is 2.00. -

Harsono, Jakarta, Indonesia 2Department of Biology, FMIPA and Research Center for Climate Change, University of Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia Abstract: Populations of the primates native to the Mentawai Islands—Kloss’ gibbon Hylobates klossii, the Mentawai langur Presbytis potenziani, the Mentawai pig-tailed macaque Macaca pagensis, and the snub-nosed pig-tailed monkey Simias con- color—persist in disturbed and undisturbed forests and forest patches in Sipora, North Pagai and South Pagai. We used the line-transect method to survey primates in Sipora and the Pagai Islands and estimate their population densities. We walked 157.5 km and 185.6 km of line transects on Sipora and on the Pagai Islands, respectively, and obtained 93 sightings on Sipora and 109 sightings on the Pagai Islands. On Sipora, we estimated population densities for H. klossii, P. potenziani, and S. concolor in an area of 9.5 km², and M. pagensis in an area of 12.6 km². On the Pagai Islands, we estimated the population densities of the four primates in an area of 11.1 km². Simias concolor was found to have the lowest group densities on Sipora, whilst P. potenziani had the highest group densities. On the Pagai Islands, H. klossii was the least abundant and M. pagensis had the highest group densities. Primate populations, notably of the snub-nosed pig-tailed monkey and Kloss’ gibbon, are reduced and threatened on the southern Mentawai Islands. -

ACIAR Project FIS/2001/079 5. ARTISANAL FISHERIES There is no universal definition of “artisanal fisheries” but common criteria (SEAFDEC 1999) include 1. Small scale and often decentralized operations, 2. A predominance of small vessels (often <10 GT), 3. A predominance of traditional fishing gears (but may include trawl, seine, gill-net, and longline vessels), 4. Fishing trips are generally short and inshore, and 5. The fisheries are often largely subsistence fisheries, but there may be some commercial component. The ports surveyed for the artisanal component of this report only meet these criteria to varying degrees, with some being home to many vessels >10 GT, and with centralized commercial operations. However, for the purposes of this study, “artisanal ports” includes not only the smallest scale of landing place at the fishing village level (i.e. what most readers would consider truly artisanal), but also these larger landing places where fishing vessels are primarily owned by fishing households, but not by fishing companies, and where the majority of vessels are smaller than 25 GT. A summary of key features of the artisanal landing places surveyed are shown in Table 5.0.1. More detailed descriptions are provided in the sections that follow. 5.1 Bungus – Padang, Pariaman, and Painan (West Sumatra) There are 5 provinces on the west coast of Sumatra – from north to south, the provinces of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (formerly Daerah Istimewa Aceh), North Sumatra (Sumatra Utara), West Sumatra (Sumatra Barat), Bengkulu, and Lampung. Numerous islands are located off this coast - Banyak Archipelago islands in the north, Nias Island, Tanahmasa and Tanahbala Islands, the Mentawai Islands (that include Siberut, Sipura and Pagai Islands), and Enggano Island in the south. -

It is classified into one of the most active volcanoes, even on the world. It mostly erupts in every 4 years. Deposits produced by its activity in Sleman Regency Yogyakarta Special Region of where the study located, can be divided into four rock units, namely Ancient Merapi, Middle Merapi, Recent Merapi, and Modern Merapi. In the 10th to 11th century Mount Merapi had been responsible to the decline of Hindu Mataram Kingdom, Central Java, by its eruptions. It was verified by the discovery of many ancient temples in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas, such as Temple Sambisari, Temple Kadisoka, and Temple Kedulan which were buried by volcanic deposits of Mount Merapi [1]. The eruption of Mount Merapi, in the year 2010 was recognized as the biggest eruption during recent decades and claimed about 300 lives and very large treasures, after the eruption. The type of eruption was changed from Merapi type in the activity period of 2006 and before to become the combination of Vulcanian type and Pelean type [2]. Due to the activities of the volcano that is very intensive, it can be underlined that the threats of geohazard faced by people living in the surrounding area of Yogyakarta is about the impact of volcanic eruptions [3]. -

In addition to requiring different management, environmental changes due to volcanic disasters will form different behaviors. An effective communication between residents in disaster-prone areas with stakeholders is required to ease the risks as volcanic disasters. The objective of this research is to analyze resident’s communication behavior in volcanic disaster prone areas to for disaster preparedness in areas with different disaster exposure types. This research applied quantitative method. The conclusions of this study are amongst others the residents in the area exposed to the cold lava flood have better skill level on media usage than those of resident’s in other areas, and the residents have a good level of trust in media intervention, mainly for new programs. Keywords: disasters, volcanoes, communication behavior, readiness, risk Introduction Indonesia, which is geographically located in the ”Pacific Ring of Fire”, has more than 83 active volcanoes, and therefore potentially has frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. One of the volcanic eruptionswas of Mount Merapi in 2010 causing 242 death tolls in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and the other 97 fatalities in Central Java Province. The disaster impacts werenot only on the loss of lives but also the loss of assets and other productive resources of individuals and communities, causing economic vulnerability and poverty (Bappenas, BNPB 2011). -

Hammons Recent studies in the anthropology of mobility tend to privilege the cultural imaginaries in which human movements are embedded rather than the actual, physical movements of people through space. This article offers an ethnographic case study in which ‘imagined mobility’ is limited to people who are not mobile, who are immobile or sedentary and thus reflects a ‘sedentarist metaphysics’. The case comes from the island of Siberut, the largest of the Mentawai Islands off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, where government modernisation programs in the second half of the twentieth century focused on relocating clans from their ancestral lands to model, multi-clan villages and on converting people from the indigenous religion to Christianity.
