Hydrobiol., Kiev For more Ukrainian participants, see list in the preface NIVA 6019-2010 Preface This report presents the results of the workshops in Rivne in 2009 – 2010 on training and organizing of the regional water management according to the principles in the Water Framework Directive. More specifically the report deals with organizing the Pripyat Water Region in Ukraine, and the characterization, monitoring, environmental goals, abatement measures of Ikva River, a secondary tributary to the Pripyat River. The project constitutes Phase II of the Watman Project, and is a co-operation between Norwegian Institute for Water Research and several Ukrainian institutions, see list below. The contractors are the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ukrainian Ministry of Environmental Protection. The client, and main co-operation partner is the State Department of the Environmental Protection in the Rivne region, headed by Mr. Petro Kolodych. He has been responsible for the work with organizing the Pripyat Water Region, as well as organizing the workshops in an excellent way. From the Institute of Hydrobiology Dr. Oksansa Manturova has been the main responsible for the work on hydro-biological inputs, evaluations and assessments on the Ikva River, as well as coordinating the inputs from other hydro biologists. CEO of the Water Management Center (WMC), Ms. Solomiya Stefanyshyn, has been our main practical co-operator, organizer and facilitator in the project, as well as translated all documents in both directions. Her skillful and efficient contribution has been of decisive importance for the success of this project. The project leader for the NIVA part of the Watman Project is Dr. Harsha Ratnaweera. His topical input to Phase II has been on the organization of the Pripyat Water Region. Senior Scientist Dag Berge has been the main contributor from NIVA on the Phase II of the Watman Project. He has lead the topical parts of all the workshops, giving advice to the Ukrainian partners, compiled their contributions into the report, as well as written most of the report. Senior Scientist Torleif Bækken, and Head of Water Management Dept at NIVA, Karl Jan Aanes has also contributed with inputs on how the WFD handle biological material to assess the ecological status. This article discusses the genesis and historical development of the sacred complexes of historic Volhyn. Based on historical and architectural analysis, it is presented that sacred complexes of historic Volhynia were built according to the canons of temple architecture, and at the same time they have their own characteristics, related to national traditions and regional features which appeared as a result of the process of forming Christianity as a religion associated with national development in the specific study territory. The results of a comprehensive analysis of historical and archival documents found in the archives of Ukraine, Poland and Russia, as well as field research are presented. Results of system and theoretical research of significant retrospective analysis of canonical, historical and political prerequisites of sacral complexes were generalized. The concept of sacred complex structures throughout ХІ-ХІХ th centuries is suggested in correlation with the change of religious identity formation and differentiation according to religious requirements. Existence of autochthonous traditions and genuine vector of the Volhynia’s sacred complex development, considering the specific geopolitical location between East and West in the area where two different cultures collide with each other has been proved. The work is shifting statements concerning direct borrowing of architectural and stylistic components of architectural and planning structure and certain decorative elements. 1 Introduction Architecture more than other forms of art reflects the state of society, its political level, the degree of economic development, aesthetic tastes and preferences.

The aim of this paper is to outline the history of sport in Volyn (the area of the Volhynian province in the period of the Second Polish Republic) in the years 1921–1939. The Volhynian province was established on 19 February 1921. As of April 1, 1939 its area covered 35,754 km2 and had a population of 2,085,600 people (as of 9 December 1931). The population of Polish nationality was 16,6 %, of Ukrainian nationality – 68,4 %, of Jewish nationality – 9,9 %, of German nationality – 2,3 %, of Czech nationality – 1,5 %, of Russian nationality – 1,1 %, the remaining nationalities – 0,2 %. Townspeople of the province represented only 13,3 % of the population. The province consisted of the following counties: Dubno, Horochów, Kostopil, Kovel, Kremenets, Liuboml, Lutsk, Rivne, Sarny, Volodymyr and Zdolbuniv. The county of Sarny (formerly included in Polesia province) became a part of the Volhynian province in December 1930. Methods and Research Problems. As part of preparation of this study the following research methods have been used: analysis of historical sources, the method of synthesis and comparison.

Calculate the basic parameters of a comprehensive green area of the city, which are compared with the corresponding parameters of other medium-sized cities in the region. We found that the dominant species (65% of the area covered with forest vegetation) are pine. We made a distribution of pine plantations of Rivne region for the most common types of forest site conditions. We investigated that the largest share of pine plantations is in the fresh and wet subors. Separately, we conducted a study on distribution of pine plantations on trophotopes (dominated by subors and bors) and hihrotopes (dominated by wet and fresh habitat conditions).

    Zuzanna Krzemien Solomon Dubno, His Eastern European Scholarship, and the German Haskalah This article examines the life and works of Solomon Dubno (1738–1813), an Eastern European intellectual who lived and worked in Berlin over a period of ten years. While he is remembered as an initiator of the publication Sefer netivot ha-shalom [Paths of Peace], and for his work on the commentary (Bi’ur) of Moses Mendelssohn’s Pentateuch translation,1 Dubno’s influence on the early German Jewish Enlightenment, as a commentator of the book of Genesis, has been largely forgotten. Following a dispute with Mendelssohn, Dubno abandoned the Bi’ur project and headed for Vilna. There, he persuaded several members of the rabbinical elite of the need to create a new Bible commentary under his authorship, which could be published together with the Aramaic translation of Onkelos. He aimed to facilitate a correct understanding of the sacred text among Eastern European Jews, for whom Mendelssohn’s translation was not easily understandable, and which was regarded as a German textbook rather than a tool for enhanced study of the Torah. In this way, Dubno combined the maskilic program of Berlin Jewry with the Eastern European reverence for a traditional religious education. The Life and Works of Solomon Dubno Solomon ben Yoel Dubno was a renowned scholar from Eastern Europe and a preeminent representative of the early Jewish Enlightenment (Haskalah), who found recognition among his contemporaries through his poetry and expertise in Hebrew grammar. He was educated under the tutelage of Solomon Chelm (1717–1781),2 whose Sha’arei ne’imah [Gates of Melody], a work on accentuation in 1 Moses Mendelssohn (ed.), Sefer netivot ha-shalom [Paths of Peace] (Berlin: George Friederich Starcke, 1780–1783).

The Congress and the President were prompted to establish the Commission because of the special problem faced by Jewish sites in the region: The communities that had once cared for the properties were annihilated during the Holocaust.
