CJR - Iraqgate, by Russ W
CJR - Iraqgate, by Russ W. Baker March/April 1993 | Contents IRAQGATE The Big One That (Almost) Got Away Who Chased it -- and Who Didn't by Russ W. Baker Baker, a member of the adjunct faculty at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, is a free-lance writer who regularly contributes to The Village Voice. Research assistance was provided by Julie Asher in Washington and Daniel Eisenberg in New York. ABC News Nightline opened last June 9 with words to make the heart stop. "It is becoming increasingly clear," said a grave Ted Koppel, "that George Bush, operating largely behind the scenes throughout the 1980s, initiated and supported much of the financing, intelligence, and military help that built Saddam's Iraq into the aggressive power that the United States ultimately had to destroy." Is this accurate? Just about every reporter following the story thinks so. Most say that the so-called Iraqgate scandal is far more significant then either Watergate or Iran-contra, both in its scope and its consequences. And all believe that, with investigations continuing, it is bound to get bigger. Why, then, have some of our top papers provided so little coverage? Certainly, if you watched Nightline or read the London Financial Times or the Los Angeles Times, you saw this monster grow. But if you studied the news columns of The Washington Post or, especially, The New York Times, you practically missed the whole thing. Those two papers were very slow to come to the story and, when they finally did get to it, their pieces all too frequently were boring, complicated, and short of the analysis readers required to fathom just what was going on. -
Why Are We Still Talking About Randy Credico?
WHY ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT RANDY CREDICO? And with the election done (and some big successes in MI), we resume our regularly scheduled Russian investigation. Yesterday, the WaPo reported that the two Stone associates who, it reported on October 21, claimed they could corroborate Roger Stone’s claim that Randy Credico was his go-between with WikiLeaks have testified to the grand jury. Two Stone associates, filmmaker David Lugo and attorney Tyler Nixon, also told The Post that Credico acknowledged in conversations last year being the source of material for Stone’s statements and tweets about WikiLeaks. Nixon said he would be willing to testify before the grand jury about a dinner at which Credico fretted that his liberal friends would be displeased that he was a source for the arch- conservative Stone. Lugo provided The Post with text messages in which Credico said: “I knew Rodger [sic] was going to name me sooner or later and so I told you that I’m the so-called back Channel.” Chuck Ross had more details (first) about Nixon’s interaction with the FBI and Mueller’s team. I feel about this reporting the same way I feel about the Roger Stone stories generally: that virtually all of the reporting is missing the point of what Mueller is looking at. Indeed, the far more interesting detail in the WaPo report is that Jerome Corsi (who, remember, said that he avoided legal exposure with something related to Stone) has spent weeks chatting with Mueller’s team. Separately, conservative writer Jerome Corsi was interviewed by investigators over three days last week and appears to be emerging as a key witness in the Mueller investigation into Stone’s activities. -

The Trump-Russia Collusion Case
The Trump-Russia Collusion Case Updated to August 2020 Source: http://www.scaruffi.com/politics/trumptraitor.html For those who have been following this page for a while: my main target is not Trump, my target is Putin. Putin, not Trump, is the most dangerous person in the world. Trump is just a lackey, a small-time crook and bit-time liar whom Putin is using to attack the USA. The problem is not that there is no evidence of Trump-Putin collusion, the problem is that there is too much of it. I have added some background about the motive of Russia's interference in US politics. In my opinion, it was not only a general attempt at undermining US institutions (that came later) but originally it was a determined effort to make sure that Hillary Clinton did not become president. Putin feared her more than anyone else. For those who have NOT followed this page from the beginning: this website was one of the first to talk about the Trump-Russia collusion at a time when few dared mention the Steele dossier. Just to be very clear: this is not about whether Russia's interference changed the results of the election (i personally think that the FBI investigation into Clinton's email server had a much bigger impact). It is about Putin's strategy to attack the USA, and, secondly, it is about the extent of Trump's collaboration with Putin. And, just to be fair, Putin's Russia is not the only country that ever interfered in US politics. -

tlnitrd ~tatrs ~rnatr WASHINGTON, DC 20510 May 3, 2019 The Honorable Henry Kerner Special Counsel U.S. Office of Special Counsel 1730 M Street, NW Washington, DC 20036 Dear Special Counsel Kerner: As you know, the Hatch Act generally prohibits certain categories of political activities for all covered employees. 1 I write today to request your assistance with a review of recent oral statements by Kellyanne Conway, Assistant to the President and Senior Counselor. On April 27, 2019, Ms. Conway made the following statements during an interview on CNN: "You want to revisit this the way Joe Biden wants to revisit, respectfully, because he doesn't want to be held to account for his record or lack thereof. And I found his announcement video to be unfortunate, certainly a missed opportunity. But also just very dark and spooky, in that it's taking us, he doesn't have a vision for the future." The chyron on the bottom of the interview periodically identified Ms. Conway as "Counselor to President Trump."2 On April 30, 2019, Ms. Conway made the following statements in response to a question about infrastructure: "You've got middle-class is booming now despite what Joe Biden says. I don't know exactly what country he's talking about when he says he needs to rebuild the middle class. He also just sounds like someone who wasn't vice president for eight years. He's got this whole list of grievances of what's wrong with the country as if he didn't have, as if he didn't work in this building for eight years .. -
Modernist Frontiers
PRESS RELEASE Modernist Frontiers – Then and now Avantgarde Kommunikation mbH is pleased to announce that its EXPO 2017 cooperation partner Garage will host the international architectural conference at EXPO 2017 | 22 – 23 July (Munich/Astana, 19 July 2017) On the occasion of the EXPO 2017 in Kazakhstan, this weekend the two- day international conference will take place at the Astana Contemporary Art Center. Initiated by Garage, the conference has been called to provide a context for discussion on Almaty’s modernist architecture (1960s–1980s), presenting it to the international expert community and launching a conservation campaign for this extremely important part of the former Kazakh capital’s architectural history. The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow and the Parisian museum Réunion des musées nationaux – Grand Palais are cooperation partners of the international creative agency Avantgarde, which was commissioned with execution and overall coordination for the Astana Contemporary Art Center (ACAC). In an effort to bring together different points of view and create an interdisciplinary environment for the study of modernist architecture in Almaty, researchers from a range of countries and different academic communities will speak at the conference. It will present various views on both the history of postwar modernist architecture and on contemporary problems in the restoration of such architecture and its adaptation to new functions. The program The first day of the conference, “The Regional Specifics of Soviet Modernism,” will set the historical and theoretical context for the discussion of Soviet architectural heritage in the former republics of the USSR. The first session will contrast shared aspects of Soviet heritage with regionally unique traits in the architecture of the former Soviet republics. -
On Credico and Stone and Hillary’S Purported
ON CREDICO AND STONE AND HILLARY’S PURPORTED LIBYA EMAIL WSJ has an underreported story revealing that Roger Stone emailed Randy Credico seeking specific emails from Wikileaks in September 2016. Former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone privately sought information he considered damaging to Hillary Clinton from WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during the 2016 presidential campaign, according to emails reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. The emails could raise new questions about Mr. Stone’s testimony before the House Intelligence Committee in September, in which he said he “merely wanted confirmation” from an acquaintance that Mr. Assange had information about Mrs. Clinton, according to a portion of the transcript that was made public. In a Sept. 18, 2016, message, Mr. Stone urged an acquaintance who knew Mr. Assange to ask the WikiLeaks founder for emails related to Mrs. Clinton’s alleged role in disrupting a purported Libyan peace deal in 2011 when she was secretary of state, referring to her by her initials. “Please ask Assange for any State or HRC e-mail from August 10 to August 30–particularly on August 20, 2011,” Mr. Stone wrote to Randy Credico, a New York radio personality who had interviewed Mr. Assange several weeks earlier. Mr. Stone, a longtime confidant of Donald Trump, had no formal role in his campaign at the time. I say it’s underreported for two reasons: as presented, WSJ doesn’t really explain why this is news. It doesn’t show that the emails were responsive to HPSCI’s request, a point made by Stone’s attorney in the story and not refuted by Adam Schiff. -
Going Everywhere and Nowhere from Moscow to the Urals – How Curatorial Delusions of Global Grandeur Betray Russian Art
GOING EVERYWHERE AND NOWHERE FROM MOSCOW TO THE URALS – HOW CURATORIAL DELUSIONS OF GLOBAL GRANDEUR BETRAY RUSSIAN ART BY SIMON HEWITT I : A MOSCOW MIRED IN MEMORIES A BANNER was dangling from the giant triumphal portico of VDNKh, beneath the two collective farmworkers brandishing their bale of straw. It advertised the 6th Moscow Biennale – the number 6 allotted spiralling arms to resemble a Catherine Wheel. But the banner was challenged by a bigger hoarding wheeled on to the piazza below, blowing the trumpet of a separate festival called Circle of Light . The Biennale’s main show was taking place just behind Lenin in VDNKh’s Central Pavilion (also known as Pavilion N°1), erected in 1954 and topped by a 350-foot spire modelled on the St Petersburg Admiralty. The Biennale was meant to open at noon. I tried to find the entrance but couldn’t. There were no signs. No information about where and when the Biennale could be visited. Yuri Albert’s immortal line breezed through my mind: The Biennale cannot and will not take place . The 6 th Moscow Biennale had been having well-publicized financial problems. Was it so bankrupt that it had ceased to exist, morphing instead into a Conceptualist joke? VDNKh, six miles north of Red Square, was the sixth venue for the Moscow Biennale’s main exhibition. It had previously been held in the former Lenin Museum near Red Square; the under-construction Federation Tower at Moscow City; the newly restored Garage (now Jewish) Museum during its brief Abramovich/Zhukova tenancy; the renovated ArtPlay cultural and commercial complex; and, in 2013, the Manezh. -
