Netrokona

Erosion has taken a serious turn in Dugrapur as Someshwary and other rivers became full to their brim in the last few days due to heavy rain. Onrush of hill water from across the border added to the situation. At least 300 dwelling houses and over 500 acres of cropland at Dakumara, Kamarkhali and Ranikong villages under Durgapur upazila have been devoured by the river in the last one week rendering more than 1000 people homeless. The erosion victims have taken shelter in the nearby flood shelters and on the highlands in neighboring villages. About one kilometer of three-kilometer-long Shibganj-Ranikong Road, the lone link between Durgapur upazila Sadar and different bordering villages has been devoured by Someshowary much to the suffering of the locals. Locals dumped sands, bamboo and timbers to protect the areas from the erosion but all their attempts went in vain due to strong current in the river. The construction work of one kilometer out of 6-kilometer Someshwary river erosion protection embankment has already started.

Kurigram

Erosion has taken serious turn in as rivers swelled in the last three days due to torrential rain and onrush of hill water from across the border. At least 84 household of 13 villages have been devoured by the river. On the other hand, increasing water level of Brahmaputra, Dhorla, Teesta and Dudhkumor has made the area vulnerable to flood.

20 houses of Sadar union under Rajibpur upazila, 40 houses of kodal kati union under Rajibpur upazila, 15 houses of Begumgonj union under and 9 houses of Jatrapur union under Sadar upazila have been inundated. Low lying areas of 13 villages of Rowmari upazila have been flooded and therefore, 20 thousand people have become water logged. People can not move without boat as communications systems have been disrupted.

Sherpur:

The water level of Brahmaputra at lunch Ghat point around suddenly has marked its water level increasing on 7 June, 2010. For that, severe erosion has been started around basin area under sadar upazila of Sherpur district as 15 dwelling houses of Charpakhkhimari union have gone to river bed on 8 June, 2010. Strong current in the river has breached four embankments out of 6 and therefore, two primary schools likely to be devoured.

Gaibandha

Everyday a vast tract of residential area and cropland in has been devoured due to Jamuna and Katakhali river erosion. The badly affected areas are Kamarpara, Hashilkandi, Sathlia, Chinirpotol, Hatbari, Holdia, Gabgasi under Shaghata upazila. On therhand, fifteen villages including Guja, Chondonpat, Chaakuli, Bangabari and Kinkur village has been demolishing day by day due to Katakhali river erosion. The river erosion has threatened a number of different GO and NGO infrastructure including schools, colleges, markets and hospitals.
