Database of ISO 3166-2 (list part)

This product contains the following files:

• Microsoft® Access 2003 database version of ISO 3166-2, Codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions - Part 2: Country code. (File name : ISO 3166-2i-9 database.mdb) • ISO 3166-2_README.txt (with detailed information on the product) • ISO 3166-2 Full Report.xls • ISO 3166-2 Full Report.xml

At the date of the purchase the database file is up-to-date. The fonts used throughout are ARIAL and ARIAL UNICODE MS.

NOTE: A simple text list or tab-delimited list has not been extracted from this database. The extracted list cannot support the different character sets used in some languages. A number of entries have diacritical characters which require the use of the Arial Unicode MS set of characters. Using a different font may result in some of the diacritical characters being rendered incorrectly.

The file ISO 3166-2i-9 database.mdb contains the following ten data fields:

• "ID" (the database ID number attributed to the data element) • "ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2 Code" [the alpha-2 code element (two-letter) for the country name] • "ISO 3166-2 Code" (the ISO 3166-2 code element for subdivision) • "Country Name" (the official short name of the country) • "Descriptive Information" (information about the subdivision layout and numbers) • "Subdivision Name" [name(s) of the subdivisions in (one of) the administrative language(s) for a given country] • "Regional Division" (regional subdivision under which a subdivision name falls) • "Subdivision Category" [generic name of the subdivision category (e.g. "") which is always given in English] • "Romanization System_ID" (details of the system used for transliteration of characters) • "Language Code" [the ISO 639-1 alpha-2 (two-letter) language code for the subdivision name or country name]

NB: The first three data fields are obligatory for all entries. The last six data fields may not be present if no subdivisions are given in ISO 3166-2 for an ISO 3166-1 country code element. They contain data only in those cases for which such information is given in ISO 3166-2.
