Partner: For the sixth consecutive year, ELIX will organize two workcamps -THIS SUMMER IS OURS- with the support of the company - Hellenic Petroleum - and the Municipality of Elefsina. The workcamp aims to support children and young people with mental and physical disabilities, by providing them the opportunity to spend a quality summer time through creative activities since it is difficult for this target group to find any activities they could take part in during summer. Work: Volunteers participating in these two workcamps will host children, teenagers and young people with mental and physical disabilities (10-29 years old) from Monday to Friday from 8:00H to 14:00H and hold a fun and divert daily schedule. They will organize athletic activities, workshops, artistic events, theatrical plays, cross cultural education and much more. There is a school garden were environmental workshops will be held.The first Sunday of the workcamp there will be a pedagogical training and an introduction necessary for the following weeks. Some afternoons during the week will be used to prepare activities for the following days.The daily activity program for the children, teenagers and young people will be fixed by a pedagogue and introduced to the group of volunteers on the first Sunday of the workcamps. The pedagogue and the team will be with the volunteers throughout the programme. Accomodation and food: Volunteers will be accommodated in the school for children and young people with disabilities in Elefsina. The school is being transferred to a spacious new building with big yard and free spaces inside the building complex. The location of the school is at the outskirts of Elefsina. The accommodation is basic but adequate; volunteers will sleep on the floor in the classrooms of the school. Sleeping bags and carry mats are necessary. There are toilets, showers and cooking facilities at the school. Everyday two different volunteers from the group, in shifts, will be responsible for maintaining the group accommodation place clean, as well as for the preparation of all the meals for the group of volunteers. Location and leisure: Elefsina is a town and municipality in West Attica, Greece, with the population of 25.863. It is situated about 20 km from Athens down town. Elefsina is best known for having been the site of the Eleusinian Mysteries, one of the most famous religious events of the ancient Greek religion, and the birthplace of Aeschylus, one of the three great tragedians of antiquity. Today Elefsina is a major industrial center.There is a bus connection between Elefsina and Athens and Piraeus. Volunteers have many places around to visit in their free time, such as the Archaeological Museum and the site of Eleusis, Athens, Piraeus and the island of Salamina. They may attend events organized during the period of their stay (concerts, festivals, performances, etc.). Volunteers will discuss their free time activities with their camp leaders; together they are going to organize excursions and visits. The school is in the outskirts of the city and reachable by bus from the centre, approx. 10 minutes.

Built near the sea, it is a modern metropolis bearing the marks of its stormy history and its cosmopolitan character, which give it a special beauty and charm. There is a lot to do in this city with an active nightlife, many bars and cafes and museums for those who enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. Sites like the White Tower, the Archaeological Museum, the AtatU?rk House, the Olympic Museum, The Ancient Forum, the Museum of Cinematography in Thessaloniki as well as many other are all popular places to visit within the City.Volunteers will discuss their free time activities with their camp leaders; together they are going to organize excursions and visits. In their free time, participants will have the opportunity to get in touch with the everyday life of the city. Location and leisure: Magoula is part of the municipality Elefsina. It is located 2 km east of Mandra, 5 km north of Elefsina and 21 km northwest of central Athens. In recent years, following the expansion and implementation of a modern city planning plan and the contribution of major infrastructure projects in Attica, it is fortunate to be at a particular hub, located closed to the city of Elefsina, but keeping the elements of the countryside, which is why it is considered by many to be the ideal suburb of residence. On the Hill of the prophet Elijah, in which several attempts have been made to create greenery and redevelopment, there is the homonymous temple and cafeteria overlooking the entire Thriasio field. The Temple of the Ascension of the Savior and St. Demetrius dates back to the 17th - 18th centuries in the central square of the city. The church of Agios Dimitrios suffered significant damage from the 1999 earthquake and was recently repaired by donations of the faithful, under the supervision of the Archaeological Service. There are several cultural and recreational activities during the year. Every July the celebration of the local festivities take place in the town with traditional music, dances and food. The surrounding area is one of the main industrial centers in Greece and has a very interesting and rich history. Aspropyrgos is also connected with the town of Elefsina, famous for its ancient ruins and cultural life, and it is about 25 km away from the beaches of the Megara Gulf. From its fishing harbor, a ferryboat line connects it to the island of Salamis, close to the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni. During their leisure time volunteers can go to the beach, visit the island of Salamis and exploring the area.
