    Wiltshire Yews An Inventory of Churchyard Yews Along the Avon Valley By Peter Norton Part 2 of 2 – following the Avon from Salisbury to the sea 1 Britford – St Peter Map 184 SU 163 284 2 miles SE of Salisbury Earliest records indicate a Saxon church in 800 which remained largely unaltered until 1330. Restoration took place in 1873. Three yews grow on this site. A male (below left) with a girth of ’”at ’and ’grows near to the south west porch. South east of the church is a female measuring ’”at ’and next to this a male (below right) measuring ’at the ground. 2 Alderbury – St Mary the Virgin Map 184 SU 182 269 4 miles SE of Salisbury Evidence of Saxon earthworks has been found, which could indicate an earlier settlement and church close to the current site. The earliest record of this site is found in the Domesday Book. The present church was built in 1857 on the foundations of the old. Seven yews grow within the churchyard with the most notable, female, growing south west of the church porch. This ‘’yew consists of a substantial fragment ’ in girth) of the original tree and an internal stem which no longer grows inside the tree. Its branches are propped up on staves, while the tree itself is supported by a large iron band staked to the ground by a substantial iron pole. Mrs Frampton Updated DfE Guidance As I am sure you will be aware, the Prime Minister has outlined changes to take place on 19th July. The Secretary of State for Education has, however, suggested that schools maintain their current safety measures until the end of the academic year. The LA has supported this suggestion, and we will not be making any changes to our current processes before we break up. From September, we have been informed that we no longer need to have staggered starts or finishes and therefore we expect to be returning to an 8.45 start for all children from September. Year R, 1 and 2 will end at 3.10 and Y3,4,5 and 6 at 3.20. I will share any other changes with you before the end of the term. We are certainly all looking forward to getting back to a more normal version of school life! COVID Reminders Please can we remind parents: • If you child shows ANY of the symptoms of COVID (persistent cough, high temperature or loss of taste or smell) you must arrange for a full test and your child (and any siblings) must not attend school until you receive a negative result or complete 10 days isolation.

This ranks a fine specimen in mullet angling terms, though it is an unexceptional capture at Christchurch. 2 Overview This paper has been prepared by the National Mullet Club to explain the exceptional importance of Christchurch Harbour as a recreational mullet fishery accessible to anglers. The Christchurch mullet fishery is accessed by anglers from all over the country as well as local anglers. The National Mullet Club regards the fishery as a resource of national importance and is grateful to the local custodians of that resource, Christchurch Angling Club, for allowing wider access. In return we hope the contents of this paper will assist Christchurch Angling Club in safeguarding and developing their mullet fishery for the benefit of all. The National Mullet Club recognises the potentially fragile nature of the ecology of Christchurch Harbour, including the mullet population, and is broadly supportive of measures necessary to conserve the Harbour environment. At the same time, NMC recognises the importance of public access to the Harbour and its immediate surroundings and believes that if properly managed, most or all existing user activities can co-exist with a thriving ecology. Angling generally is an activity with a high socio-economic value and a low environmental impact. The socio-economic value of Christchurch’s mullet fishery is unusually high because of its exceptional quality. The environmental impact of mullet angling is reduced by its almost exclusively catch-and-release nature and by the environmental awareness of the largely specialist anglers involved.
