Benny LeMay becomes program’s third career 1,000 yard rusher In a game that saw separate lightning delays before the game started and again at halftime, the Charlotte 49ers (1-0) ignited for 21 unanswered points in the second half to topple Fordham (0-1), 34-10, in the season-opener for both schools. RS-Fr. QB Chris Reynolds, making his first career start, com- pleted 13-of-20 passes for 267 yards and one touchdown. RS-Fr. Jr. RB Benny LeMay amassed 218 yds of total offense with 135 rushing yds and 83 receiving yds and added a pair of TD runs. It was LeMay’s third career 100-yard rushing performance, his first game with multiple TDs and helped him become the third 49er to surpass 1,000 career rushing yards. Charlotte got on the board when a 71-yard completion from Reynolds to LeMay set up a 24-yard field goal by true freshman Jonathan Cruz with 4:37 left in the first quarter. On the 49ers next drive, running back Aaron McAllister carried the ball on six straight plays, accumulating 33 yards to set up a 39-yard field goal by Cruz. Fordham answered with a 70-yd TD pass from Luke Medlock to Austin Longi to lead, 7-6, with 11:28 remaining in the second half. Charlotte struck back as LeMay broke off a 58-yard run to set up his first 2-yd TD run and give the 49ers a 13-7 halftime lead. After a Rams’ FG cut the lead to 13-10, Charlotte took control. Reynolds hit Tucker for a 60-yard pass to set up a four-yard touchdown by LeMay. On their next possession, the 49ers capped a 14-play, 97-yard drive with the 12-yd TD pass from Reynolds to Tucker to put the 49ers ahead 27-10 early in the fourth quarter. The 49ers added a TD in the final five minutes when RS-Sr. LB Juwan Foggie returned a pick-six untouched for 26 yards. Charlotte held Fordham to 3-of-15 on third downs and 0-for-5 on fourth downs.
