Pascoes Tennis Seniors National Championships 2021

Preparation is now well underway for the National Individual Championships, one of Tennis Seniors major events on the calendar. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the 2021 Pascoes Tennis Seniors National Championships will be held for players residing in New Zealand only. With Christmas coming up, get your entry in early. If you enter online and you intend to come along to the “Meet & Greet” on the Friday evening, include an extra $15 with your entry fee. You will find the bank number on the online message. The Fact Sheet is on the TNZS website www.tennisseniors.kiwi) under the “Nationals” where you will find all the information for the event. Pascoes Tennis Seniors National Teams Event

Pascoes Tennis Seniors National Teams Event will be held on 2-4 April 2021. Put the dates in your calendar and start organizing your teams. Never too early. The teams event is a great time and place to catch up with your old friends and is a must on the Tennis NZ Seniors Calendar. Tennis Seniors North Harbour will be hosting the event and are looking forward to organizing the Meet & Greet and Prizegiving Dinner. The social events are still in the planning however for all information, please check the Fact Sheet on the TNZS website. You will also be notified in due course what the theme for the dinner will be. The venues for the event will be the Albany Tennis Park, Forrest Hill Tennis Centre and additional clubs if required. —————<>—————-

South Island Masters Games

The South Island Masters Games were held in Timaru during October. The tennis was held at the Trust Aoraki Tennis Centre over the last two days of the games. Timaru’s complex has 14 plexipave courts and has magnificent views to the mountains and the sea and amazing facilities. (photo below) The tennis was well supported from players outside the Timaru region

ITF Seniors Trophies for 85+ Age Group

ITF Seniors have announced that the men’s and women’s 85+ and over category of the annual ITF Seniors World Team Championships will be renamed to recognize two legends of the sport - Lorne Main and Angela Barrett (nee Mortimer). Member Associations were recently invited to make nominations for the naming of the events and following a unanimous vote by the ITF Seniors Committee, they will be named the Angela Mortimer Cup and the Lorne Main Cup from 2021. You will be interested to know that Tennis NZ Seniors sent in a nomination for the men’s cup to be named the Cup. Lorne Main, nominated by , not only competed on the Seniors Circuit for over 30 years, winning titles at every age category he competed in, but also competed at Grand Slams and represented Canada in the . He sadly passed away in October last year—he was in his 90th year. Angela Mortimer, nominated by Seniors Great Britain, was Britain’s leading tennis player in the 1950’s with a distinguished international career in which she won three Grand Slam titles and reached World No.1. She captained Britain’s Federation Cup team from 1967-70, was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in 1967 and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1993.

Winner for the event were Mavericks with All Boks being the runners up. Third place was Mix n Match. Congratulations to the “Players of the event” - Male: Shaun Martin - Female: Rewa Hudson.

Tennis Seniors Auckland Labour Weekend Tournament

Tennis Seniors Auckland held a very successful tournament over Labour Weekend with 96 players participating and enjoying two days of fantastic weather. The event was held at the Mission Bay Tennis Club and also extra courts were used at the Kohimarama TC on the Saturday.
