El evento contó con la asistencia de 54 agentes de viajes de 21 agencias, de las cuales 14 eran agencias independientes. También asistieron representantes de la línea aérea Monarch y del aeropuerto de Birmingham. Junto a la Oficina de Turismo de Gibraltar participaron como expositores: Bland Group Calypso Tours/ M H Bland Classic Collection Holidays Cresta Holidays Dive Charters Gibraltar Gibraltar Taxi Association Monarch Airlines Parodytur/Parody Holidays Superbreak El director ejecutivo de las líneas aéreas Monarch, Kevin George, también estuvo presente en el evento de Birmingham. Este encuentro ha estado programado para coincidir con el inicio de los vuelos de la aerolínea entre Birmingham y Gibraltar. El evento concluyó con un sorteo de premios generosamente donados por los coparticipantes. Durante su estancia en Birmingham, Costa asistió a una reunión de la Asociación de Turismo de Gibraltar en el Reino Unido (UKGTA en sus siglas inglesas). Los asuntos abordados en la agenda incluyeron una puesta al día sobre los trabajos de mejora llevados a cabo por el Gobierno de Gibraltar en las atracciones turísticas, informes sobre actividades promocionales en el Reino Unido, conversaciones sobre eventos y ferias e informes individuales de los miembros. El director de la terminal aérea, Terence López, participó en la reunión por primera vez en representación del Aeropuerto Internacional de Gibraltar. En concreto, poder promocionar una nueva ruta a Gibraltar, asegurada por el Gobierno de Gibraltar, pone de manifiesto nuestra implicación para garantizar que se proporciona el apoyo necesario a este tipo de logros. The event was attended by 54 travel agents from 21 travel companies of which 14 were independent travel agencies. Representatives from Monarch Airlines and Birmingham Airport were also present. This event having been targeted to coincide with the start of the airline’s Birmingham to Gibraltar flights. The event concluded with a raffle of prizes very generously donated by the co- exhibitors. Whilst in Birmingham, Minister Costa attended a meeting of the United Kingdom Gibraltar Tourism Association (UKGTA). Items on the agenda included an update on the improvement works being carried out by Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar on the visitor attractions, reports on marketing activities in the UK, discussions on events and exhibitions and individual reports from the members. Participating at the meeting for the first time was the Air Terminal Director, Mr Terence Lopez, representing Gibraltar International Airport. Minister Costa travelled to London for a meeting in London with the China Business Network and further meetings in conjunction with the first Gibraltar International Literary Festival, being held in October of this year. Commenting on his visit to the UK, Minister Costa said, “The road show was a great success and demonstrates how travel agents are still an important part of the holiday selling programme. The event was well received and we were delighted to be able to showcase Gibraltar’s tourism product along with our tourism partners from home and the UK. In particular being able to promote the new route to Gibraltar, secured by the Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar, shows Gibraltar’s commitment to ensuring that the necessary support is afforded to these achievements. The GTB held three tourism road shows in Marrakech, Casablanca and Tangier welcoming 180 travel agents and members of the press along with dignitaries from the tourism industry. Members of the tourist industry from Gibraltar and Morocco supported the GTB. Co- exhibiting with the GTB were the Bland Group, Travel Link (Morocco), the GFSB, the Rock Hotel, the Sunborn Hotel and the Caleta Hotel. Joining the road show in Tangier was the University of Gibraltar and Setitours of Tangier. At the events the Minister for Tourism, the Hon Gilbert Licudi QC MP, delivered a welcome address highlighting the commitment of HM Government of Gibraltar to the tourism industry and the importance of looking to new markets such as Morocco in sourcing more visitors to the Rock. Nicky Guerrero, Chief Executive of the GTB delivered a destination presentation concentrating on Gibraltar's unique attractions as a tourist destination. Mr Licudi said: “I'm delighted at the success of these events in Morocco. The level of attendance at the road shows exceeded our expectations and the level of interest shown by those attending was remarkable.     PRESS RELEASE No: 699/2017 Date:27th November 2017 Super Break Charters for Summer 2018 In a welcome move since the demise of Monarch Airlines, short break specialist Super Break have announced a series of charters flying from regional destinations in the UK to Gibraltar for summer 2018. The flights are set to operate twice a week for four weeks in July from Belfast International, Hum- berside, Exeter, Bournemouth, Durham Tees Valley and East Midlands Airport. The final details of the programme have yet to be confirmed along with a date when the packages will be put on sale. The initiative by Super Break follows discussions at the World Travel Market and at a meeting of the UKGTA (United Kingdom Gibraltar Tourism Association), between the Gibraltar Tourist Board, Super Break and their agents in Gibraltar, The Bland Group International (BGI). The discussions took place with Chris Hagan, Head of Propositions for Super Break, who also holds the Chair of the UKGTA. Chris Hagan said, ‘We are delighted to be working with our long established partners in Gibraltar to deliver this brand new programme for UK leisure travellers to visit Gibraltar in Summer 2018. Gibraltar is already one of our Top Ten short break destinations and by adding this exclusive capac- ity we hope to further cement our position as the UK’s specialist Gibraltar short break operator.
