Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association submitted ballots for the Hart Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. The winners of the 2021 NHL Awards presented by Bridgestone will be revealed during the Stanley Cup Semifinals and Stanley Cup Final, with exact dates, format and times to be announced. Following are the finalists for the Hart Trophy, in alphabetical order: Nathan MacKinnon, C, Colorado Avalanche MacKinnon placed fourth in the NHL with a career-high 1.35 points per game (20-45—65 in 48 GP) to propel the Avalanche’s top-ranked offense to the franchise’s third Presidents’ Trophy (also 1996-97 and 2000-01). MacKinnon finished among the League leaders in shots on goal (3rd; 206), power-play points (3rd; 25), assists (5th; 45), points (8th; 65) and power-play assists (t-10th; 17) despite missing eight of Colorado’s 56 contests.     July 31, 2005----- MILLER, Mo. -- Mickey Owen was the Brooklyn Dodgers catcher known for his passed ball in the 1941 World Series that led the New York Yankees to a championship. But later in life, the popular All-Star never passed on giving an assist to a youngster. Owen had a 13-year major-league career, including a 1949-51 stint with the Cubs. He retired to his central Missouri roots in 1954. In 1959, Owen founded the Mickey Owen Baseball School along old Route 66 in Miller, about 25 miles west of Springfield. Notable pupils include Yankees coach Joe Girardi, actor Charlie Sheen and former Birmingham Baron Michael Jordan, who was awarded a summer scholarship to the school when he was 13. Owen died earlier this month from complications of Alzheimer's disease. The native of Nixa, Mo., was 89. But his school is still going as if it were the summer of '59. A tapestry of six baseball diamonds, batting cages and forest green cabins are set off the highway in a lush grove of tall oak trees. The 15 cabins are homes for summer players, ages 8-19. Players come from the Midwest, Japan, Puerto Rico and South Africa. They live on the 77-acre grounds for one or two weeks. Each cabin is named after a vintage major-league team. Eight to 10 players are assigned to a cabin. There is no "Devil Rays" cabin. During the summer of 1976, Jordan stayed in the "White Sox" cabin. The cabins are not air conditioned. This is baseball unplugged.

September 15, 1982 Gemayel to have begun term Sept. 23- Bomb blast kills Lebanese President-elect Fifty others reported dead or injured in the explosion BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) — Bashir Gemayel, the 34-year old president-elect of Lebanon, was killed Tuesday in a bomb blast at an office of his Phalangist Party in Christian east Beirutrepresen- tatives. He had survived two other attempts on his life. There was no claim of responsibility for the blast, which munitions experts said was caused by an estimated 400 pounds of explosives. Government radio said eight people were dead and 50 others were either killed or wounded. Lebanese Prime Minister Shafik Wazzan called the bomb blast "a criminal act" and said he would delay the reopening of the last crossing point between east and west Beirut that remains closed. Gemayel campaigned on a platform of a "strong and united Lebanon" and promised upon election Aug. 23 to purge his divided country of all foreign armies. Most Sunni Moslem legislators boycotted the uncontested parliamentary elections that gave Gemayel the presidency. Moslem leftists expressed fears a Gemayel government would bring reprisals for the 1975-1976 civil war, which pitted Christians against an alliance of Moslem leftists and Palestinian guerril- las. Gemayel's top aides said there would be o retribution for the bloody civil strife but many Moslems remained unconvinced. On the day he was elected, Gemayel vowed to represent "all Lebanon" and said he sought "to achieve unity among all Lebanese." Bashir Gemayel had said he would be the Wests strongest ally in the Arab world, and he also was expected to seek close ties with Israel, which has supported his right-wing Phalange militia since the civil war.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is a museum where participants and builders of the sport are honoured and the history of hockey is preserved. Through the Education Program, students can share in the glory of great moments on the ice that are now part of our Canadian culture. The Hockey Hall of Fame has used components of the sport to support educational core curriculum. The goal of this program is to provide an arena in which students can utilize critical thinking skills and experience hands-on interactive opportunities that will assure a successful and worthwhile field trip to the Hockey Hall of Fame. But as a lifelong hockey fan, I still feel the need to do him justice. So I thought, why not ask my dad? Here is the first seldom-told story he gave me, smiling. When goaltender Gump Worsley broke into the NHL with the New York Rangers in 1952, Howe was just beginning the prime of his career. In a game between the Rangers and Howe's Detroit Red Wings, the 24-year-old Howe had a chance to tuck away a supposed empty-netter late in the game, with Worsley diving back towards the crease in the hope of making the save. The maskless Worsley (he was once quoted as saying ?my face is my mask?) never faced the shot. When asked later why he kept the puck on his stick, instead of risking hitting Worsley square in the face, Howe simply said he would get plenty more chances on Worsley. In March of 1962, Howe became the second player to ever score 500 NHL goals, after Maurice Richard, in a 3 ? 2 Detroit victory over the New York Rangers and Gump Worsley.
