Guidance on the content and context for this unit The purpose of this unit is to develop learners’ knowledge and skills in body painting through research, design planning and application. Learners will research a variety of body painting techniques to include freehand and airbrushing and produce design plans which show a high level of creativity and imagination. Learners will carry out the planned body paining designs on live models and produce industry standard finished looks. This unit is ideal for learners following a career in the make-up artistry industry. The learner will develop practical skills in transferring body painting designs to models. The learner will plan and design two body painting looks to: full body, full upper body. Guidance on approaches to delivery of this unit Group discussions should be used to ensure learners are aware of the pre-requirements regarding the screening and informed consent for the models used for body painting and airbrushing. These issues must be raised prior to the recruitment of models/subjects. The delivery of this unit should include a strong emphasis on demonstration of safe and hygienic practice in the application of body painting and airbrushing. To support this, the following strong recommendations are suggested for operational considerations in a training environment. The recruitment of models/subjects must follow current legislation relating to the Protection of Vulnerable Groups and implemented by centres. If the design dictates that no top garments are deemed appropriate for the body painting and/or airbrushing of a model, nipple shields can be worn for modesty. Any style of underwear may be worn by the model (boxers, thongs, bikini briefs) during body painting and airbrushing. Consent forms explaining how photographic images of models may be used/displayed
