Opening Night Gala OTHER PEOPLE – International Premiere Director: Chris Kelly

A personal and semi-autobiographical dramatic comedy it follows David, a struggling comedy writer, fresh off a breakup and in the midst of the worst year of his life as he returns to Sacramento to care for his dying mother. The film stars Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad), , Bradley Whitford, Zach Woods, Maude Apatow and Madisen Beaty.

Closing Night Gala KIKI – Canadian Premiere Director: Sara Jordenö

25 years after Jennie Livingston’s classic documentary Paris is Burning and Madonna’s Vogue video, KIKI is a dynamic coming of age story about agency, resilience and the transformative artform that is Voguing. It offers riveting and complex insight into the daily lives of a group of LGBTQ youth-of-color who comprise the “Kiki” scene, a vibrant, safe space for performance created and governed by these activists. Following members of the scene as they prepare for and perform at exuberant Kiki balls in New York City, KIKI highlights the infectious joy of these performances, while also foregrounding the scene's urgent social function as an alternative family structure.

“We are honoured to open and close this year’s Festival with these personal and passionate works and support the efforts of these exceptional filmmakers,” said Scott Ferguson, Executive Director of Inside Out. “OTHER PEOPLE and KIKI begin and wrap an incredible line up we’ve assembled for this year’s Festival.”

The Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival celebrates 26 years of showcasing the most ground-breaking, powerful and entertaining work in LGBT cinema from Canada and around the world. Tickets on sale starting May 12 at insideout.ca.
