ELITE ATHLETES GUIDE WPS MONTRÉAL 2019 A WORD FROM THE INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON UNION PRESIDENT

Greetings and a warm welcome to the 2019 Groupe Copley World Triathlon and World Paratriathlon , It is always a pleasure to return to Canada and specifically the wonderful setting of Montreal as we enter the second half of the 2019 World Triathlon Series. This weekend, we will also be making the third stop on the 2019 WPS Series, following on from superb paratriathlon events in Milan and Yokohama earlier this year. This great city made its grandstand WTS debut in 2017, when Spain’s Javier Gomez and Australia’s Ashleigh Gentle powered to victory in front of packed crowds. Last year, it was Great Britain’s Vicky Holland and Javier’s compatriot Mario Mola who cemented their title credentials here with magnificent golds, before going on to be crowned World Champions. This year we have a brand new sprint-distance Elite course to unveil on Montreal Island, one that promises to deliver just as much thrilling sporting action and inspiration as we have come to expect. Diving into the Lawrence River, the athletes will emerge from the 750m swim for a typically tight and technical city-centre ride before the 4-lap run reaches its finale back amongst the quayside’s crowds. The paratriathlon events will take place the day before, just across the water in Jean-Drapeau Park, one of the great legacy projects of the 1976 Olympic Games and a fitting location for such a prestigious race. The sporting action will be non-stop for the duration of the weekend, with Age Group racing for all ages and abilities taking place. By offering the thrill of competition and the opportunity to experience this course to local sportsmen and women of all levels, Canadian triathlon will continue to flourish. There can be no doubt that the value of occasions such as these is enormous as we continue to build the sport of triathlon around the world. I would like to thank Triathlon Canada, the Local Organising Committee and the city of Montreal for their commitment and hard work in staging this event. The ITU World Series continues to grow and reach new audiences every year, and that success would not be possible without the support of our fantastic host cities. Finally, for newcomers to Montreal, you are in for an incredible experience here, and I urge you all to explore and enjoy the city to the fullest as it hosts the spectacle of ITU World Series Triathlon.

Sincerely,

Marisol Casado President, International Triathlon Union 2 IOC Member ELITE ATHLETES GUIDE WPS MONTRÉAL 2019 A WORD FROM THE MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON PRESIDENT

I am blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people who put together a spectacular ITU World Cup event in 2016, and who are now about to deliver an even more amazing event this year for the 4th edition, this time as only one in eight (8) ITU World Triathlon Series events and welcoming the third stop of the ITU World Paratriathlon Series.

With Montreal and Canada’s rich tradition in hosting international sporting events, we have had the privilege to pick from the very best sports event organizers to assemble a truly amazing team of professionals, volunteers and contractors.

This event is pegged to generate almost $20M in financial activity, but this is only a number: the excitement that this type of event generates, combined with the example of good health and good living habits are all true models that we should strive to follow on a daily basis. Enjoy the show my friends!

Patrice Brunet President and CEO Montreal International Triathlon
