Berne (Suisse), lundi 18 juillet 2016 TOUR DE FRANCE 2016 – ETAPE 16 LE COUP DU CHAPEAU POUR SAGAN D'un souffle, Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) a dominé le final musclé de la 16ème étape du Tour de France. Le maillot vert est venu devancer Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) au prix d'un ultime effort impressionnant dans l'emballage final. La dernière côte pavée dans les rue de Berne a parfaitement servi les dessins du vainqueur du Tour des Flandres. Lancé dans un incroyable numéro, Tony Martin (Etixx-Quick Step) n'est pas parvenu à offrir à Julian Alaphilippe la victoire qui lui échappe depuis le début de ce Tour. Départ intense À la veille du second jour de repos de ce Tour, les baroudeurs ont rapidement affirmé les ambitions sur les 209 kilomètres piégeux menant la course de Moirans-en-Montagne à Berne. Tony Martin et Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quick Step) se sont lancés les premiers, au km 13. Derrière, de nombreux coureurs ont tenté de sortir en contre et il a fallu plus de 45 kilomètres pour que la situation se stabilise : le duo Martin-Alaphilippe en tête et un groupe de quatre poursuivants avec Timo Roosen (Lotto NL - Jumbo), Lawson Craddock (Cannondale-Drapac), Pierre-Luc Périchon (Fortuneo-Vital Concept) et Nicolas Edet (Cofidis). Le numéro de Martin Loin de laisser le groupe de contre venir lui apporter du soutien, Tony Martin a alors justifié une fois de plus son surnom de "Panzerwagen". Alaphilippe s'est calé dans la roue de la bête à rouler, dont l'effort impressionnant a porté l'avance du duo de tête sur le peloton jusqu'à 6 minutes. Impuissants, les poursuivants étaient repris au km 101, tandis que Martin continuait d'emmener son jeune équipier. Le peloton y tenait trop L'effort de Tony Martin, finalement relayé par Julian Alaphilippe dans les 100 derniers kilomètres de l'étape, ne pouvait suffire à frustrer un peloton déterminé à assurer une explication entre hommes forts dans les derniers hectomètres. L’Allemand sera finalement repris à 20 kilomètres de l’arrivée, 5 kilomètres après son coéquipier français. Dimension Data, Cofidis, Direct Energie, Katusha, BMC, Tinkoff… autant d'équipes à avoir participé à la poursuite, pour un seul vainqueur : Peter Sagan (Tinkoff), qui devance les norvégiens Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) et Sondre Holst Enger (IAM Cycling) de quelques millimètres sur la ligne à l’issue du sprint d’un peloton très amaigri, et malgré un dernier assaut de Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) dans les 20 derniers kilomètres. Fabian Cancellara termine à la 6ème place de l’étape.
