Charitable Registration Number: 10807-5946-RR0002 th 2017 marked the 30 anniversary of The Angel Foundation for Learning’s (AFL) mission to assist TCDSB students. Looking back on the past, we clearly have much to celebrate. The steady growth of support through the years to meet the needs of students, shows the long-term commitment this organization inspires. • The Student Nutrition Program began in the late 1980’s with a handful of schools participating and in 2016-17 served over 52,000 students in 172 locations. • The School Allocation Fund continued to support schools to make sure that no student was left behind. All students should have memories of school excursions and leadership activities with their peers in these important school years. • The Guardian Angel Funds have changed through the years, but with one in four children living below the poverty line in , the evidence to grow these funds is clear. The Tom Leon Extreme Needs Fund helped students who faced extreme financial crises. In the last six years alone, the Social Work Emergency fund budget increased from $30,000 to $75,000. The Angel Foundation for Learning Summer Camp Fund sent 147 students to camp and/or after school sports programs. Thanks to ongoing support from our generous partners, The Reliable Life Fund, The Loretto Fund and The Loblaws Kids See Free Fund, continued to provide students with medical necessities and helped families new to Toronto. • Nourishing the desire for further education is important to The Angel Foundation for Learning. In 2017, three awards and thirteen bursaries were administered and presented to the winners. Anniversaries are a good time for looking back, but also a time to set goals for the future. Increasing awareness of AFL throughout the Toronto Catholic community is a high priority, as well as expanding our fundraising efforts with additional events. Thank you to the corporate partners, private donors, volunteers, the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), the AFL Board of Directors, the AFL staff and all of you who support us throughout the year. Nancy Murdocca, MSW RSW President, The Angel Foundation for Learning Student Nutrition Programs

Student Nutrition Programs (SNPs) have grown tremendously in TCDSB schools. In the 2016-17 school year, over 52,000 TCDSB students benefitted from a healthy breakfast, morning meal, lunch or snack daily. There were 189 Student Nutrition Programs operating in 172 locations. Students who have had a healthy and nutritious morning meal are ready to learn and have improved attention spans. Municipal and provincial government grants in the amount of $4,537,002.60 accounted for between 15 and 24 per cent of the costs associated with running the SNPs. The remaining costs were covered through local fundraising initiatives, parent donations and community donations. Breakfast Clubs of , Breakfast for Learning, The Youth and Education Fund, The Polish Orphans Charity, Sisters of St. Joseph, Martin McCarthy, Dr. David Michelberger, CWL of St. Philip Neri, RTO District 24 and the Cardinal’s Dinner also provided funding for some of our Student Nutrition Programs.
