CO-ORGANIZERS Too Important to Fail: The Relevance of MMIHC 2019 and the Progression of Humanitarian Works

Monday, 5 August, 8.55 - 9.15am SPONSORS JC 1 (Main hall)

We are delighted to welcome you to MERCY International Humanitarian Conference (MMIHC 2019).

This conference is part of MERCY Malaysia's 20th anniversary celebrations. The focus of the conference revolves around current humanitarian actions, trends and their implications for the people at the core of humanitarian work. It raises critical questions that spark dynamic debates and discussions for Dato' Dr. Ahmad Faizal Perdaus immediate and future action planning. President, MERCY Malaysia

“How can humanitarian work help to save lives, protect sustainable development and promote peace building in the larger context of community development and resilience? At the same time recognizing fundamental human rights, irrespective of political interests?”

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Driving Coherent Humanitarian Action’. It KNOWLEDGE PARTNERS addresses the importance of coordination in humanitarian aid, whether as rapid response measures during crises, or more medium and long-term development actions. The humanitarian-development-peace nexus is so important that the United Nations established a Joint Steering Committee to Advance Humanitarian and Development Collaboration in 2017 to promote cohesiveness in humanitarian action through closer collaboration and integrated approaches.

MERCY Malaysia is consistent in its efforts to deliver quality humanitarian and development aid locally and internationally. To promote the advancement of the humanitarian sector, this conference brings together leading humanitarian thinkers and practitioners from around the world to discuss best practices, lessons learnt and their implications for the people at the core of humanitarian work.
