VISION Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP) is a registered charitable society. It is an NGO working in the disability sector since 1974. IICPs vision is an inclusive society with equal opportunities and access for all marginalised groups including persons with disabilities. Annual Report 2014-15 01 Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy CHAIRPERSONS REPORT Uma Ahmad Once more we come to the end of a very eventful year... a very special milestone year for the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP). On 18 November 2014, we launched our celebrations to commemorate 40 years of IICP's services. This made us think back in time, to the early years in the Jawan's Quarters in the Ballygunge Military Camp where we were given space to launch this NGO. Even though we are swamped with nostalgia, one cannot help the pride that wells within us, as we contemplate the amazing progress we have made. We have filled a crying need in our society and provided professional services for victims of Cerebral Palsy. We have brought respite and hope to so many despairing families... all due to the grit and determination of a family and a dedicated group of friends. The tireless efforts of our Advocacy Group have actually turned the mindset of a superstitious, prejudice-ridden and suspicious society. Slowly and surely, there is an air of acceptance and tolerance amongst people. Attitudes are veering towards a desire to help rather than to turn away. Schools are considering the idea of 'inclusion' and granting admission to children with manageable disabilities. New buildings are including ramps and special toilets to facilitate the use of wheelchairs. Though much is yet to be done... still it is an auspicious beginning. We now have a revised Disability Act in the pipeline, in which IICP has played a leading role. This is the single most successful achievement in our last 40 years. All those who have made this possible are to be heartily congratulated and saluted. Each member of this organisation has contributed whole heartedly towards building IICP into a premier institution. The dynamic leadership and the dedicated members of the staff are imbued with the spirit of concern and responsibility. IICPs contribution is now acknowledged world-wide. The following pages give ample evidence of their dedication in the past and their continued hard work in arranging the exciting events yet to come before we wind up our 40th year celebrations.
