Letter of Intent of Lachlahn Dunbar and Lady Vienna Maria Della Rosa

Unto Their Majesties, Theuderic and Queen Engelin, Their Excellencies Gilbert and Bethony, and the fair populace of Krae Glas, do Baron Lachlahn Ioseph of Dunbar and Lady Vienna Maria Della Rosa send heartfelt greetings in these times of unrest.

Please accept this letter as our nomination as candidates for Baron and Baroness of Krae Glas.

We have found family amongst the people of this barony and it is the members of Krae Glas who inspire us to step up and serve. We are keen to build upon the very fine foundations established by their Excellencies Cormac and Elspeth and continued by Gilbert and Bethony.

It has been 6 years since Krae Glas first made us welcome and we keenly look forward to reopening our home to Krae Glas for workshops, activities and post revels once the social distancing requirements have eased. While the past few years our contribution to the SCA has been primarily supporting and Kingdom roles, we still feel a great passion towards Krae Glas.

When news of Their Excellencies intention to step down arrived, we naturally revisited the conversation about what we could bring to the role. We still wholeheartedly believe in many of our previously identified goals from 4 years ago as well as finding new inspiration. We understand that a Barony’s community is built on more than just the prestigious events or weekends and are committed to engaging in regular activities as opportunities are created.

We believe that we possess a strong balance of experience and energy; one not as old he sounds and the other not as inexperienced as she looks.

Lachlahn with three years served as a landed baron and experience as a Baronial and Royal court herald, partnered with Vienna’s many years working closely with multiple Crowns and their local representatives, together we have a sound understanding of the responsibilities and obligations of landed .

In over 20 years of participation in the Society, Lachlahn has served as a Baron, Baronial champion and held the Baronial offices of Seneschal, Constable and Herald. He has also run numerous events, while newer members to Krae Glas may recognise Lachlahn as the guy in the corner with the laptop, Kingdom obligations complete, Lachlahn looks forward to once again being more actively involved in local activities.

Far more talented than her , Vienna is an experienced feast steward and passionate costumer, who has enjoyed helping newcomers make their first garb and working with them to develop their own skills and costuming . Aside from running a few baronial meetings as a former deputy seneschal, Vienna’s recent efforts included planning and preparation for day of champions 2020 (currently postponed).

One of the strengths of Krae Glas has been the feeling of family, community and social inclusion that makes us the envy of many other Baronies. With such solid foundations, it shall fall upon Their Excellencies replacements to build and develop this culture into a Barony of even greater renown.

With this in mind, we have identified the following ambitions:

• Increase the frequency and engagement of armoured, archery and rapier tournaments. • To build key local events, like Day of Honour, to such status that they inspire future stewards, artisans, entrants and spectators alike.

Letter of Intent of Baron Lachlahn Dunbar and Lady Vienna Maria Della Rosa

• Day of Champions was a first step towards our goal of raising the profile of champions within Krae Glas, we want build on that and support champions as leaders of their field. • To explore with the populace the role of Guilds within local activities and events. • Dancing is a celebrated part of history which lends itself to a fun and vibrant atmosphere. It can also be intimidating, but we can work on that! • To develop a court atmosphere the envy of Charlemagne. • To encourage and recognise the outstanding contributions from the artisans within the barony. • To actively support new ideas and initiatives from within the Barony, to encourage, inspire and empower new and repeat stewards. • Working with stewards to best compliment their events as hosting or visiting Baronial presence.

A Baron does not lead from the rear! Otherwise he would never have tales to tell, such as marching a 14 person Tudor army between two Viking armies and unfurling a “No Vikings” banner. We believe that a barony likes to see its leaders take the field, if we were to become Baron and Baroness, Lachlahn would consider it a huge honour to take to the field as Baron of Krae Glas and promises to try and look good doing so. After all, when Krae Glas goes to war we should be attired both practically and suitably debonair.

Speaking of looking good, Krae Glas is a collection of diverse styles and we would never dream of imposing our chosen styles onto others. Visit any medieval hall and you will see impact of the artisans, long after feats of prowess have faded into history, what we will strive for is a welcoming court full of splendour, gravitas, and revelry.

We wish to serve as Baron and Baroness of Krae Glas, guiding gently, mindful of its youth, respectful of its existing traditions, and excited by the journey ahead.

In service to Krae Glas and Lochac, the present and future Crowns and the society.
