WORKS CITED 15 2 | P a g e ABSTRACT In the early 19th century, James Black created a different kind of knife for Jim Bowie. This knife was longer in length than the average knife and compared more to a mini sword. While the exact design and characteristics of the original Bowie knife was lost with James Black, the stories of the weapon captivated people. Our project was to capture the same aura surrounding the knife as James Black did many years ago but also commemorate the history associated with it. We created our Bowie knife model using Solidworks, cast it in IC440C Stainless Steel with the assistance of American Foundry Group, and polished it with our own tools. 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Project Management Figure 1: Project Schedule Figure 1 shows the original Gantt chart for the Bowie Knife project. It began December 15th when we created the original proposition for the competition. Every period in the chat represents 1 week since the original 12/15 start date. -
Wildlands a Homebrew Setting and Conversion for This Is Not a Test By: Mike R
Wildlands A Homebrew Setting and Conversion for This is Not a Test By: Mike R. and Jeff S. Summary: A fantasy conversion for This Is Not a Test, the premise is that a group of inventors created a powerful device known as the Mueller Gateway. It opened a portal into a parallel and unnatural realm known as the Immaterial. They hoped to harness the power of this realm, but instead were driven mad by exposure to it. They lost control of their device, and in doing so released a plague of interdimensional horrors into an area known as the Wildlands; the region they had set up their workshop. The Empire, fighting a war in the North with the barbaric Orc hordes, has been forced to turn to mercenaries to help quell the outbreak. The Emperor himself placed a bounty on each and every creature, to be paid upon proof of death. Now Mercenary Warbands roam the Wildlands, hunting the beasts and each other. You play as one of these Warbands, and your goal is simple: Hunt creatures, stop other Warbands from doing the same, and get paid. Machete Fighting in Haiti, Cuba, and Colombia
ABSTRACT: This article explores the history of fencing with machetes among people of African descent in Haiti, Cuba, and Colombia. The machete, a sacred icon of individual success and warfare in Africa, became for enslaved Africans a tool used in exploiting their labor. -

Rules and Options
Rules and Options The author has attempted to draw as much as possible from the guidelines provided in the 5th edition Players Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guide. Statistics for weapons listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide were used to develop the damage scales used in this book. Interestingly, these scales correspond fairly well with the values listed in the d20 Modern books. Game masters should feel free to modify any of the statistics or optional rules in this book as necessary. It is important to remember that Dungeons and Dragons abstracts combat to a degree, and does so more than many other game systems, in the name of playability. For this reason, the subtle differences that exist between many firearms will often drop below what might be called a "horizon of granularity." In D&D, for example, two pistols that real world shooters could spend hours discussing, debating how a few extra ounces of weight or different barrel lengths might affect accuracy, or how different kinds of ammunition (soft-nosed, armor-piercing, etc.) might affect damage, may be, in game terms, almost identical. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way Dungeons and Dragons handles such things. Who can use firearms? Firearms are assumed to be martial ranged weapons. Characters from worlds where firearms are common and who can use martial ranged weapons will be proficient in them. Anyone else will have to train to gain proficiency— the specifics are left to individual game masters. Optionally, the game master may also allow characters with individual weapon proficiencies to trade one proficiency for an equivalent one at the time of character creation (e.g., monks can trade shortswords for one specific martial melee weapon like a war scythe, rogues can trade hand crossbows for one kind of firearm like a Glock 17 pistol, etc.). -
Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999
Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999 The Voice of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Governing Board - USA Branch Welcome to the August issue of Tenaga Dalam. A lot has occurred since May issue. Pendekar Sanders had a very successful seminar in Ireland with Guru Liam McDonald on May 15-16, a very large and successful seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s school on June 5-6 and he just returned from a seminar in England. The seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s was video taped and the 2 volume set can be purchased through Raja Naga. Tape 1 consists of blakok (crane) training and Tape 2 has about 15 minutes more of blakok training followed by a very intense training session in various animal possessions including the very rare Raja Naga possession. Guru Besar Davidson and his students should be commended on their excellent portrayal of the art. Tape 1 is available to the general public, but due to the intense nature of tape 2 you must be a student. It is with great sadness that I must report that Guru William F. Birge passed away. William was a long time personal student of Pendekar Sanders and he will be missed by all of the people that he came into contact with. 1 Tribute to Guru William F. Semi-Historical Arms and Armor the Following Are Some Notes About The
Semi-Historical Arms and Armor The following are some notes about the weapons and armor tables in D&D 5th edition, as they pertain to their relationship to modern understandings of historical arms and armor. In general, 5th edition is far more accurate to ancient and medieval sources regarding these topics than prior editions, but for the sake of balance and ease of play without the onerous restrictions of reality, there are still some expected incongruences. This article attempts to explain some particular facets about the use of arms and armor throughout our long, shared history, and to offer some suggestions (imbalanced as they may be) on how such items would have been used in particular times and places. A note on generalities: One of the best things 5th edition offers in these tables is the generalization of particular weapons and armor compared to prior editions. Is there a significant, functional difference between a half-sword, arming sword, backsword, wakizashi, tulwar, or any other various forms of predominately one-handed pokey and slashy things with 13 inch, sometimes 14 or 20 or even 30 inch blades? Well, actually yes, but that level of discrimination is often not noticeable in the granularity of the combat mechanics of most systems, and, more importantly, how modern readers often distinguish them is often anachronistic. For instance, almost all straight sword-like weapons, be it arming swords, half-swords, back swords, longswords or even great swords like claymores (but not Messers!) are referred to in ancient and medieval texts (MS I.33, Liberi, etc) as… swords. -

A wide, stiff cut and thrust blade that could be brought into play in confined spaces, and deliver a mortal wound! Our interpretation of the Cinquedea is made from expertly heat treated 1055 Carbon steel with a highly engraved guard and pommel, and a hand-carved rosewood grip. The Cinquedea is sold complete with a leather scabbard with engraved steel throat and chape. The Cinquedea [Ching-kwi-dey-uh] has held a long fascination for us here at Cold Steel. It gained popularity as the sidearm of choice for noblemen walking through the narrow alleyways and walled cities of Italy. A blade worn exclusively for civilian self-defense, it was essentially the precursor to the civilian side sword and the rapier – and yet, this instrument of personal protection seems to have owed much of its design to fashion as it did to the cut and thrust of mortal combat! Surviving examples of these unusual short handled and steeply tapered blades are often highly embellished and ornate. With etched or gilded blades and deep multiple fullers that border on jewelry rather than weaponry – but beneath the romanticisms of high renaissance fashion lay a tool made with purpose. -

CURATOR OF THE TOWER ARMOURIES PREFACE DO not propose, in this work, to consider the history or develop- ment of defensive armour, for this has been more or less fully I discussed in v^orks which deal with the subject from the historical side of the question. I have rather endeavoured to compile a work which will, in some measure, fill up a gap in the subject, by collecting all the records and references, especially in English documents, which relate to the actual making of armour and the regulations which con- trolled the Armourer and his Craft.
