The shop was recognised for championing the independent sector and its committment to providing extra value to its customers. Shop Manager Julie Atkinson has a team of four paid staff and 30 volunteers. Rixton Claypits Nature Reserve have consent from Natural for a large scale conservation project that includes opening up an area of scrub woodland to reclaim lost areas of species rich grassland and reclaim several ponds currently shaded out where the Great Crested Newts once bred. The end result should increase the population of newts still further, resulting in the Claypits being one of the best places in the world for Great Crested Newts and right on our doorstep! The Rangers are in the first stages of putting together a development plan

ACHIEVEMENTS, HIGHLIGHTS, SUCCESSES St. Helen’s Church thank everyone who donated produce to their Harvest Festival service, which were gifted to the Homeless Centres in Warrington and Manchester. Refurbishments to Church House are nearing completion. Works did not stop the Friends of St. Helen’s Church hosting several social events including a hot pot supper, quiz Sunday evening, day trip to York and a talk by Lymm historian Joe Griffiths. St. Helen’s Sunday School re-opened after the summer holidays with their best first day attendance for some years, welcoming 12 boys and girls. ACHIEVEMENTS, HIGHLIGHTS, SUCCESSES Rixton-with-Glazebrook Pre-school completed their move to school thanks to the hard work of the staff and support and warm welcome from the school. The children have quickly settled in and enjoying their new learning environment. For contact details for Pre-school see p.10. Sunday St. Helen’s School children have been busy with a host of events and Sunday 10.30 - 11.30 activities. Key Stage 2 performed ‘Spywatch’, a play they had written 10.00 - 11.00 themselves, much to the delight of a thoroughly entertained audience. The spirit of sportsmanship was on display at this year’s Sports Day and at the Manchester United Foundation’s weekly sessions held to Saturday help develop children’s football, teamwork and leadership skills. Saturday Sporting opportunities are also on offer as part of the before and after school activities including Contact Rugby, Super Heroes Sports Club, Fencing course and Fusion Dance. Children’s Health and Friday Safety awareness was raised with Bike Ability training and a one day Friday emergency First Aid course. The children have quickly settled in and enjoying their new learning environment. For contact details for Pre-school see p.10. Sunday St. Helen’s School children have been busy with a host of events and Sunday 10.30 - 11.30 activities. Key Stage 2 performed ‘Spywatch’, a play they had written 10.00 - 11.00 themselves, much to the delight of a thoroughly entertained audience. The spirit of sportsmanship was on display at this year’s Sports Day and at the Manchester United Foundation’s weekly sessions held to Saturday help develop children’s football, teamwork and leadership skills. Rixton Claypits Nature Reserve have consent from Natural England for a large scale conservation project that includes opening up an area of scrub woodland to reclaim lost areas of species rich grassland and reclaim several ponds currently shaded out where the Great Crested Newts once bred. The end result should increase the population of newts still further, resulting in the Claypits being one of the best places in the world for Great Crested Newts and right on our doorstep! The Rangers are in the first stages of putting together a development plan
