Robert Musil 6 PREFAZIONE 7 Prefazione È evidente che oggi esiste una marcata frattura tra la cultura scientifica o scientifista, se ne cogliamo la degradazione in senso assolutista (per fortuna patrimonio di una minoranza culturale), e la cultura cosiddetta dell’analogia, ovvero quella non legata strettamente a parametri valutabili in modo strumentale e che si basa, invece, sul collegamento ideale o analogico fra due o più fattori è che è rappresentata in quasi tutte le cosiddette Scienze Umane. Una tale dicotomia è figlia soprattutto della disinformazione, che ha celebrato, negli ultimi decenni, attraverso i mezzi di larga diffusione delle idee, il paradigma secondo il quale tutto ciò che è scientifico va salvato e tutto ciò che non lo è va buttato alle ortiche. Da ciò nasce, come osservava il filosofo Raffaello Franchini, che oggi si pretende di “far ruttare e copulare la gente in modo scientifico”, con tutti gli orrori che una simile deformazione logica comporta. In una cieca idealizzazione si osannano le spedizioni spaziali e i meravigliosi giocattoli offertici dalla tecnologia, per dimenticare poi, con la superficialità che colora tanto i nostri giorni, che questa Scienza è madre anche delle atomiche, delle armi chimiche e batteriologiche e di tutti i più sofisticati sistemi di distruzione di massa. -

McLean Abstract Theology is intrinsic to the Bahá’í revelation. While community attitudes have tended to view the discipline of theology somewhat suspiciously, the term and field of “Bahá’í theology” remain valid and are indispensable. One can distinguish source theology or revelation theology, contained in holy writ, from derivative theology (commentary), which is more relative and subjective. The relativity of religious truth, while it plays a useful role in deabsolutizing dogmatism and in promoting interreligious dialogue, is itself relative and currently runs the risk of becoming another absolute. Bahá’í theology is both apophatic (negative) and cataphatic (affirmative). An abstruse, apophatic negative theology of a hidden God is explicit as background to Bahá’í theology. Apophasis rejects defining God and honors God by remaining silent about the divine essence. If apophasis does speak of God, it does so by via negativa, by describing God through a process of elimination of what God is not, rather than making affirmations about what God is. The main substance of Bahá’í theology, however, is manifestation theology or theophanology, that is, a theology calculated upon an understanding of the metaphysical reality and teachings of the divine Manifestation. This manifestation theology is cataphatic. Cataphasis dares to speak about God but recognizes that God transcends the human analogies used to describe divinity. Bahá’í theology is, moreover, based in faith rooted in the person of Bahá’u’lláh and his divine revelation, has a strong metaphysical bias, eschews dogmatism, and welcomes diversity. -

Robert Musil The Man Without Qualities 6 PREFAZIONE 7 Preface It is undeniable that there is a wide gap today between the scientific – or, better, scientifist – culture and the so-called culture of analogy. “Scientifist” is a term coined by the Italian philosopher Raffaello Franchini to indicate the absolute deterioration of the scientific thought, luckily confined to a cultural minority, that uses science as if it were a weapon. Opposing this is the so-called culture of analogy, which is not closely linked to standards that can be assessed instrumentally, but which is based, on the contrary, on the ideal or analogical connection between two or more elements that are represented in almost all the so-called Human Sciences. Such dichotomy derives mainly from the media misinformation that, in recent years, has celebrated the notion whatever is “scientific” deserves salvation, while whatever is not, must be thrown away. Hence, as Franchini points out, the pretension of making people “burp and copulate in a scientific way”, with all the distortions deriving from this misrepresentation. -
